APPLE'S WWDC will see the launch of iCloud, iOS 5 and OS X Lion when it opens it's doors on June 6, This comes alongside the news that iOS 5 will have Twitter integration and the rumour that the iPhone 5 will launch at WWDC.

E3 anticipation is reaching fever pitch and this week saw a Tomb Raider trailer unveiled. The hugely successful franchise is back, but totally rebooted with Lara Croft being just 21 and starting out. We also saw a nifty new head-tracking feature for Forza Motorsport 4 using Kinect which will be confirmed when the conference starts. The cloud-based gaming company who've been taking the US by storm have also unveiled that OnLive will be available for tablets soon. HTC ChaCha coming soon on Vodafone

Posted: 04 Jun 2011 06:04 AM PDT

HTC's new Facebook phone landing on Vodafone "very soon".

We first caught a glimpse of the HTC ChaCha back at MWC in February, where it almost snuck past us in a crowd of HTC devices that included the HTC Incredible S, the HTC Desire S, the HTC Salsa and the HTC Flyer tablet. With most of those now released into the wild, Vodafone have piped up to announce that they'll be releasing the ChaCha "soon - very soon".

Posting on the company's Facebook page, the bods at Vodafone assure us that "If you love Facebook, you'll love the HTC ChaCha! Coming soon to Vodafone - really soon - the HTC ChaCha lets you share loads of things to Facebook at the push [of] a button. With new price plans, including free BT Openzone WiFi, there are plenty of chances to play, too!"

Packing a 2.6-inch touchscreen, a QWERTY keyboard and a 5MP camera, the ChaCha is looking like a solid budget choice for those unwilling to shell out for the pricier HTC Incredible S or HTC Sensation (of which we're big fans - take a look at the video review below).

There's no details from Vodafone on how much they'll be asking for the handset, but the ChaCha is already available at Phones4u, priced at £249.99 SIM-free or around £25 a month on various standard contracts.

The official Vodafone website lists the ChaCha as coming soon. You can keep up to date with their HTC ChaCha page here.

Duke Nukem Forever demo released

Posted: 04 Jun 2011 04:15 AM PDT

Fans finally get back into the Mighty Boots of the Duke.

With just days to go until we run out of gum, Duke Nukem Forever fans have received an early treat from Gearbox Software ahead of the June 14th release date in the form of a playable demo, now available for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The demo of the Duke in action was made available to fans who pre-ordered the game, as well as gamers who picked up the Borderlands Game of the Year Edition, and sees Duke battling it out with a typically gargantuan alien invader in an American football stadium.

But reception to the demo has been split, with gaming message boards and the Twitterverse praising and knocking the game for at once for its infantile humour and lengthy development process.

Duke Nukem was last seen saving babes and pummelling alien invaders in 1997's Duke Nukem 3D, with Duke Nukem Forever planned as a sequel for a mid-1998 release. However, despite several teasing screenshots and a gameplay trailer from E3 in 1998, the sequel was eventually canned, until being picked up again 12 years later by Gearbox Software.

Duke Nukem Forever will be released on June 14th, a whopping 14 years after it started development. In the meantime, check out the Duke Nukem Forever launch trailer below.

PSN Welcome Back package causes errors

Posted: 04 Jun 2011 03:03 AM PDT

PlayStation users unable to log on to claim free gifts.

It's been a tough old time for Sony's PlayStation this past month. First, the PSN was attacked by internet ne'er-do-wells out to pilfer users' personal information; then L.A. Noire developers Rockstar claimed the latest firmware update was causing PS3s to overheat (it wasn't, turns out); then, just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, a million Sonypictures.com members had their personal account details rifled through by a different gang of cyber ruffians.

The PSN is, however, now back up and running, and to make up for the outage users were promised a collection of freebies from Sony by way of apology. PSN users registered before April 20th 2011 get two free games (from a selection of nine), some free movie rentals for the weekend and a month's free access to the PlayStation Plus service, as part of what Sony are calling the "Welcome Back" package.

However, the rush of users back to the PlayStation network is seemingly overwhelming the servers on Sony's end, with some gamers looking to redeem their offer of free goodies being greeted with a characteristically cryptic error message (80710D36) preventing them from getting at their free content.

Sony have responded to the problem via the European PlayStation Blog's official Twitter account (@PlayStationEU), saying: "Anyone having problems go to XMB > account management > transaction management > services list and you can access it again from there". However, we tested the fix and frustratingly found that just selecting the Account Management option from our PlayStation's Media Bar brought up the same 80710D36 error.

We'll be watching @PlayStationEU for possible Twitter updates. In the meantime, it looks like those affected will have to wait just a little bit longer for the PSN to get itself back up to speed.

Still can't get your hands on the Welcome Back package? Let us know on Twitter @t3dotcom or the T3 inbox.

App week: iWork for iPhone, Twitter photo-sharing app

Posted: 04 Jun 2011 03:00 AM PDT

Every Saturday we round-up the week in mobile applications bringing you news of the biggest new releases across all major platforms and a host of reviews from T3's App Chart. Let's crack on...

APP NEWS:

iPhone app news: iWork lands on iPhone and iPod touch
We've seen Apple's office suite on the iPad for ages, so it's great to see it migrate to the smaller screens. iWork for iPhone and iPod touch brings Keynote, Pages and Numbers to the App Store for £5.99 each having been optimised for the 3.5-inch displays.

T3 Gadget Awards to crown App of the Year
Is there a smartphone application that has changed your life? Well now's the time to make yourself heard. The massively influential T3 Gadget Awards are back and we're asking you to help us crown the 2011 App of the Year. Check out the nominations and cast your vote.

Twitter app news: Official photo-sharing app launched
In a move that could spell the end for the likes of Twitpic and yfrog, Twitter has launched an official photo-sharing client to plug into its smartphone apps and website. Twitter reckons it will remove the friction from posting pictures to your feed.

iPad app news: Fanhattan makes streaming movies easier
Movie fans now have options, aside from iTunes to stream movies on their iPad. Fanhattan for iPad brings them all together in a comprehensive free app that allows you to choose the cheapest and best quality means of purchase as well as comprehensive information about the film.

Android app news: Google bans retro gaming tools
There aren't that many great games for Android, which makes Google's banning of console emulators all-the-more queer. Apps like SNesoid and Gameboid have been binned from the Android Market, with no explanation from Google. Goodbye Mario Kart, you will be missed.

iPhone app news: A new kind of augmented reality
We're seen augmented reality apps before, but this one is a little different. Launched in association with the Green Lantern film, Zappar brings inanimate objects to life. If you point your camera lens at a Zappar-approved image it'll come to life in another dimension.

APP REVIEWS FROM THE T3 APP CHART:

iPad app review: 4oD Catch Up
Since the iPlayer landed on the iPad, we've been waiting for Channel 4's own impressive catch-up TV service to hit Apple's tablet. 4oD Catch Up for iPad is free to download and features the best British content from C4. However, the archive isn't there yet and there's none of the channels American shows on board.

iPhone app review: Axe in Face
While this sounds like something the Daily Mail would want banned, it's actually about a Viking whose favourite hobby is gardening, iPhone game Axe in Face sees old Red Beard attempt to protect his lovely fields of daffodils by fighting-off marauding herds of fellow Norsemen.

Windows Phone 7 review:  South Park Soundboard
While soundboards can mostly be more annoying than their screen-prodding owners, they're always handy to have in the locker for that time when you need the perfect put-down. And there's no group of eight year-olds better equipped to slate your mates than the kids of South Park Elementary. It's the most popular soundboard available for the platform.
