THE DAILY CRUNCH
MONDAY, JULY 10 2017 By Darrell Etherington

The Tesla Model 3 is now officially in production, and there are pics to prove it. That and more in The Daily Crunch for July 10, 2017. Also, if you think about it, we're all kind of living in a sealed lab for the sake of science.

1. The first production Tesla Model 3 has arrived

The first Model 3 is Elon Musk's, which is only because the actual first customer gifted Elon his place in line. The kind gesture will earn him the Tesla founder's lasting gratitude, but it also means Elon himself will get first notice of any early production run oddities.

Elon's car rolled off the production line late on Friday, and the first external paying customers should get their vehicles by the end of this month, which leaves a few weeks for tweaks. But the car is set in terms of its production appearance, so take a good long gander and decide if you like what you see – I sure do.

2. Trump never called 'no take backsies' on cybercrime unit

Oh President Trump, you called for the creation of a combined cyber crime defense unit with possibly the U.S.'s primary cyber crime foe? Seems dumb, is that really what you meant Prez? Nah jk jk, he said later.

3. Inside France's startup megafactory

Building a workspace for thousands of entrepreneurs is one way to signal you really want to encourage a startup culture, and that's just what France's Xavier Niel did with Station F. Romain takes a look at the huge converted train station.

4. Waymo drops most patent claims in Uber suit

The Uber/Waymo legal battle continues, and the biggest development is probably that Uber has dropped three of its four patent infringement claims in the suit. This is going to draw out for a while, so wake me up when it's over and we know for sure if anyone's ability to pursue development of self-driving tech is affected.

5. Alexa discounts are big for Prime Day

The Amazon Prime Day discounts are coming up (live at 9 PM ET tonight) and they include big discounts on Alexa devices, including a 50% cut for the Echo. It's probably more about broadening market penetration than it is about buoying lackluster sales.

6. China will seal four volunteers in a lab for 200 days to prep for moon mission

China wants to put people on the moon, and now it's moving to its next stage – sealing a group of volunteers in a closed lab for over half a year. So long as I had Netflix I'd be able to do it.
