THE DAILY CRUNCH
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29 2018 By Anthony Ha

Bernie Sanders wants to raise wages at Amazon, Instagram introduces a new process for getting verified and Google's wearable operating system gets a new look. Here's your Daily Crunch for August 29, 2018.

1. Bernie Sanders' problem with Amazon

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is seeking additional information about the working conditions in Amazon warehouses in advance of legislation he's preparing to introduce on September 5.

Sanders told TechCrunch that he believes Amazon should be paying its warehouse workers more: "The taxpayers in this country should not be subsidizing a guy who's worth $150 billion, whose wealth is increasing by $260 million every single day."

2. You can now apply to get a verified badge on Instagram — here's how

Getting verified on the photo-sharing platform has long been the stuff of legend. Now it looks like those days might be over, with a straightforward, in-app process to apply for that sweet blue check mark.

3. Facebook Watch is launching worldwide

Facebook's Watch section first launched last August, but only in the U.S. It says it now has over 50 million monthly viewers who watch at least a minute of video.

4. Google's Wear OS gets a new look

Google says the overall idea here is to give you quicker access to information and more proactive help. In line with the Google Fit redesign, Wear OS now also provides you with the same kind of health coaching as the Android app.

5. DFINITY raises $102M from a16z and Polychain for a decentralised 'Internet Computer' to rival AWS

Since blockchain technology appeared, there has been a persistent problem in its development: how to make it scale to billions of users. That, plus a very healthy dose of ambition and a bench of strong computer science talent, are some of the big reasons why investors are gathering around DFINITY.

6. Facebook has restored the cross-posted tweets that were removed from users' profiles

Facebook says it has corrected the issue of deleted posts, which had affected those who previously cross-posted their tweets to their Facebook profile (a feature that's no longer supported).

7. Sinemia takes aim at MoviePass again, with new $9.99 plan

Like MoviePass, the new Sinemia tier includes three movie tickets each month, but it has the additional benefit of allowing subscribers to buy tickets for any 2D, non-IMAX screen, and to buy those tickets in advance.
