Sony's calculated decisions have caused happiness and grief today as many will be cheerful to know that they have slashed the prices of the PSP Go. Others will be saddened, however, as after 30 years of service Sony has officially stopped producing Cassette Walkmans. We were more shocked to know they still exist.

Football and gaming fans be aware, if you can't wait for its release then the new Football Manager 2011 demo is now available to download online. Also previewing its fast paced glory before its release via a new gameplay trailer is Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. There goes your evening.

Shocking tablet news from the big cheese and the quick pretender as rumours and leaks suggest a new Wi-Fi only version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab is due to be released before Christmas. By chopping out the 3G connectivity Sammy is hoping to offer a cheaper more competitive model. This is followed by the shocking news that one tenth of iPad users have never downloaded a single app for their product! What is the world coming to?

VLC Media Player comes to iPhone and iPod touch

Posted: 25 Oct 2010 10:19 AM PDT

More codecs and faster decoding.

The recent VLC Media Player for iPad app has been upgraded to work with the Apple iPhone and iPod touch.

The popular Mac and Windows player, which allows users to play obscure video and audio codecs launched on the iPad a month ago and solved a host of media compatibility issues for owners of Apple's tablet.

Now version 1.1.0, which now works on iPhone 4, 3GS and recent incarnations of the iPod touch, offers playback of a few more file extensions and faster decoding. It also has the very handy add-on of being able to delete video files from the application without having to go through iTunes.

The app joins the VLC Remote app for iPhone, which turns your smartphone into a control for the PC version of the player.

The latest VLC Media player is available to download now from the App Store and like all previous versions it remains stonking value and will cost you no money whatsoever.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit new gameplay trailer revealed

Posted: 25 Oct 2010 09:05 AM PDT

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit demo coming this week

A new trailer for the upcoming Need for Speed title has been released showcasing one of the most eagerly anticipated features of the new game subtitled Hot Pursuit, the ability to play as a fleet of high-speed police interceptors.

Offering users the choice of being on the other end of their in-game supercharged crime rides, the force adapted Seacrest County super cars will be available gameplay options for users when the full title hits shelves on November 16th.

With Gran Turismo 5 once again without a launch date, the approaching release of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit could capitalise on the delays to the 3D racing behemoth that was given its first free UK consumer outing last week at T3’s VIP Reader Event at Selfridges’ London Oxford Street store.

Also revealed in the new high-octane trailer (viewable below) was the date of an upcoming downloadable demo of the latest in the Need for Speed franchise. The blues-‘n’-twos take on high-speed action-filled street races will be available for gamers to sample from tomorrow, October 26th.

Stay tuned to T3.com for some exciting and exclusive Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit coverage. To share your views on the newly released Hot Pursuit trailer visit the T3 Twitter and Facebook accounts.

One tenth of iPad users have not downloaded a single app

Posted: 25 Oct 2010 07:54 AM PDT

Approx 9% of a recent survey are in the dark when it comes to Apps

The BBC reports that nearly one third of iPad users have never downloaded an app for their Apple product. However, it seems that the figures are in fact much less.

After revising the information conducted by research firm Nielsen, it looks like the actual figures of iPad users not downloading apps is a significantly lower 9%. However, when you take into account that over 7.5 million iPads have been sold, theoretically it can be assumed that around 750,000 people aren’t downloading apps for their iPads, which in itself seems mad.

The study questioned 5,000 people in order to get feedback on how many of those use their iPads, Tablets, eBooks, Netbooks, portable game players and portable media players.

Out of the 91% of people that did download apps for their iPad, the type most installed were games with a high 62%, while at the other end of the list Travel apps were downloaded the least, with 24%. At least 50% of iPad owners used their product to download music based apps, not quite as many as book apps which were recorded to have 54%.

Since iPad apps are such an incredibly integral addition to the product that won the T3 2010 Gadget of the Year award, it’s obviously very surprising that so many people (in theory) aren’t using the device to its full potential. Those in need of a jump start should look no further than the T3 App chart.

Wi-Fi only Samsung Galaxy Tab coming pre-Christmas?

Posted: 25 Oct 2010 07:37 AM PDT

Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab to drop price of Samsung tablet

A cheaper, Wi-Fi only version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab is expected to launch ahead of the Christmas rush after spy shots of a Best Buy sales catalogue revealed the existence of a silver Sammy tablet that has scrapped the 3G mobile internet signal.

Priced at $499 on the Verizon network, the Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab is believed to be readying for a black Friday launch with the 7-inch, Android 2.2 devices further looking to challenge Apple’s market leading tablet  the iPad which is available in a variety of storage sizes for both Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + 3G models.

Whilst there is no official word from Samsung on such a device, UK pricing of the 3G inclusive 1GHz processor packing pocket-friendly tablet emerged last week ahead of is official launch on November 1st.

Carphone Warehouse was the first distributor to announce pre-order prices for the Samsung Galaxy Tab Wi-Fi + 3G with the iPad competitor lining up at a hefty £499 subsidised by a monthly contract or £530 as a standalone device, a price point later matched be supermarket giant Tesco which began its own pre-orders shortly after.

Would a lower priced Wi-Fi only option tempt you in to buying the Samsung Galaxy Tab over the Apple iPad or other tablet devices? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

T3 Readers: iPad 2 will be the 2011 Gadget of the Year

Posted: 25 Oct 2010 06:50 AM PDT

Apple's inevitable sequel will lap up honours, according to you

Last week’s T3 poll results are in and the Apple iPad 2 is in first place as the predicted winner of the 2011 Gadget of the Year award. With 38.41% of the votes it seems that you, our discerning readers, believe that Apple will continue its stylish winning streak next year.

One reader commented: “I would say either the iPad 2 or the iPhone 5! Apple will pull out all the stops with their new devices next year to bounce back from a bad launch of the iPhone 4!” It seemed that the majority of you agreed as the Apple iPhone 5 came in second place with 22.54% - only marginally less than the iPad 2 love.

Our third place position went to the hi-tech and extremely fashionable HTC Desire HD with a vote of 16.19%, which isn’t all that surprising with the recent success and hype surrounding its launch. It seems not that many of you have faith in the sensor-tech-aided add-on that Microsoft believes will change gaming, as the controversial Microsoft Kinect came in fourth place with 9.21% of the vote.

The PSP 2 came in fifth place with a minute 7.62%, but still managed to fend off support for the Nintendo 3DS, which came behind it in sixth place with just 6.03% of the votes. Apparently you think the future in tech doesn’t lie with handheld 3D gaming.
