White iPhone 4 delay explained: has been at an all time high recently, but we could finally be getting to the bottom of the problem. With reports suggesting camera issues are holding back the White iPhone 4 from a 2010 release, and rumours running rife around the iPhone 5 and Apple adding an integrated SIM to its next handset, we might not see a white iPhone 4 at all, ever.

HTC Mecha and Nexus two: revealed today, in one form or another, will have consumers salivating at the prospects and competitors quaking. The HTC Sense site has announced that the company will be releasing a new HTC Mecha Android handset. A leak or a deliberate move? Who cares, with HTC's current run of form a new Sense compatible device means only good things. Elsewhere, invites and industry speculation suggests the Samsung Google Nexus Two will be hitting the stores on November 8. Which Android wins your vote? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Text forwarding spy app banned from Android Market

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 08:53 AM PDT

CIA-style text message tap thrown off the Android Market.

An app that can be covertly installed your Android phones by another person to forward all your text messages to another number has been banned by the Android Market.

The somewhat horrifying 'Secret SMS Replicator' app for Android was available to download until yesterday.

The app allows folks who suspect their partners of cheating to install the app on their handset, insert their own number and have all of that persons texts appear on their phone.

Even more terrifying is that the app has no icon or shortcut to speak of, so once the spy has planted the seed there's very little chance that the target will pick up on the phone tap.

It's at times like this when we think Apple has the right idea with its Fort Knox-like entrance to the App Store isn't such a bad idea, and reportedly that's why developer DLP Mobile opted for Google's more chilled-out Android Market.

Retail chain Toys ‘R’ Us has announced it is to stock the Elonex eTouch tablet in the UK with the device becoming the cheapest Google Android powered tablet on the market with prices starting from just £90.

Undercutting the price of the Next and Disgo tablets by almost £100, the Elonex eTouch will be available in two forms, a 7-inch device priced £89.99 and a 10-inch model that will cost wannabe tablet initiates £149.99. Both devices have a distinct iPad knock-off look about them.

Gran Turismo 5 UK release date expected this month

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 07:13 AM PDT

GT5 release date expected within days

Gamers are expected to finally find out when Gran Turismo 5 will be launched in the coming days as a Sony spokesperson is reported as saying “a new date will be announced by the end of the month.”

Given that we are just a few days shy of the month’s end, the claim, reported by games blog VG247, would hint to a launch date for the repeatedly delayed racing sim being announced before Monday.

Originally pegged for release on November 3rd, Sony revealed on an online blog earlier this month that the title that has been five years and $60 million in the making would no longer be making an early November arrival yet would, however, still be making its appearance pre-Christmas.

The official release read: “We are sorry to say that Gran Turismo 5 will not be available on the previously announced release date of November 3rd, but the game will be released before Christmas. We sincerely apologise to GT fans for the delay, however creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating a racing experience of the highest quality."

T3 gave the eagerly awaited title its first free UK consumer outing last week at a reader event at Selfridges’ London Oxford Street store to much acclaim.

Stay tuned to T3.com and the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds for all the latest on the imminent arrival date of Gran Turismo 5.

T3 Gadget Awards 2010: What the crystal ball said

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 07:11 AM PDT

Comparison site reveals reader tips T3 Gadget Awards 2010

Independent website Reevoo, who collect customer reviews of gadgets, tried their hand at predicting what products would win the T3 Gadget Awards 2010. They compared their reader votes with the actual results and also showed us what would have won if the votes were based on their customer reviews.

TV of the Year

T3 Award winner
: Panasonic Viera TX-P50VT20B

Reevoo predicted
: LG 47LE8900

It seems they were wrong on this one. However, if the votes were counted by the number of positive reviews from Reevoo, the winner would still be the Panasonic Viera TX-P50VT20B. Looks like all you reviewers out there agreed with the T3 voters.

Commuter gadget of the year

T3 Award winner
: iPhone 4

Reevoo predicted
: Apple iPad 3G + WiFi

Although their prediction was wrong again who could blame them, it was a close call between two of Apple’s biggest sellers. Had the T3 votes been determined by the Reevoo reviews then the winner would have been different. The Apple iPad 3G + WiFi would have been crowned Commuter gadget of the year just as Reevoo had predicted.

Music gadget of the year

T3 Award winner
: Cambridge Audio DAC Magic

Reevoo predicted
: Sonos S5 and iPod Touch (joint winners)

Unfortunately there were no joint winners for Music gadget of the year. Reevoo customer reviews would have seen the Sonos S5 single handily beating back the rest of the competition for the first place. Looks like Apple’s iPod Touch wasn’t that popular with the people.

Gaming gadget of the year

T3
Award winner: Alienware M11x

Reevoo predicted
: XBox 360 S

While Reevoo’s prediction of the Xbox 360 Slim winning was wrong it still had a good chance of winning. Although Reevoo review customers would disagree as their votes would have seen DJ Hero pumping some tunes into the throne room of gaming gadgets.

While Reevoo didn’t have the magic touch of fortune telling the customer reviews they collect produced some interesting results. For a full list of the predictions check out Reevoo’s website.

White iPhone 4 delayed by Apple due to camera issues?

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 06:30 AM PDT

White body affects camera of iPhone 4

Following news yesterday that the white version of the Apple iPhone 4 will now be delayed until the spring of next year, rumours have been rife around the true cause of the handset's continued postponement with latest reports pointing towards a camera issue.

The official word from Apple on the heavily delayed lighter-hued handset is that the white device is: “more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected". However, new reports suggest that the Steve Jobs headed company has in fact been suffering degraded images from the device's onboard 5-megapixel snapper.

Attributed to light leakage, the issue, apparently prominent when using the device’s flash, revolves around the handset’s semi-translucent glass covering and bright white tone which is resulting in drastically over-lit and whited out images.

The information, which came from an anonymous tipster with “connections to Apple”, could see the white skinned iPhone 4 delays continue for some time as the fruity tech giant battles against re-design limitations.

With the iPhone 5 expected to follow Apple’s annual product cycle ritual and be unveiled in June, questions are now being raised around the white iPhone 4 being delayed indefinitely, with focus instead being shifted to mastering the white production process for version 5 of the market leading smartphone.

Has the continued and seemingly endless delays for the white iPhone 4 deterred you from waiting for the lightly coloured handset? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

PlayStation Phone to run on Sony Ericsson Z-System?

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 04:00 AM PDT

Evidence suggests potential PSP phone gaming platform

Following on from the Sony PlayStation Phone pictures leaked yesterday, it appears one of the snaps may have also revealed the rumoured handset's potential gaming platform.

An eagle-eyed reader spotted the domain name 'z-system.com'  on the PlayStation Phone prototype picture here which is a domain currently owned by Sony Ericsson.

The phone manufacturer strongly rumoured to help bring the device to life, currently hold the trademarks for Z-System in the US and Benelux trademark offices. Filed this year, the filing category includes "software for interacting or playing with electronic or video games."

The Z-System platform theory is further supported by claims from  Engadget the site that leaked the pictures,  that the project is currently known under the codename 'Zeus'.

Sony still continues to adopt the stance of not commenting on rumour and speculation, but as the evidence continues to mount, denying the existence of an Android smartphone/PSP mash-up device is likely to get tougher.

HTC Mecha Android handset announced via HTC Sense site

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 03:48 AM PDT

HTC Mecha to suppert top-draw Sense UI

Rising force in the mobile market HTC has seemingly leaked its own upcoming handset as an Android powered device dubbed Mecha has appeared on the company’s HTC Sense registration website.

Appearing in the ‘Choose your phone’ section of HTCSense.com, the online registration for the HTC service that allows users to track their compatible Android run phone’s location and content, the Mecha device joins the upcoming releases the HTC Desire HD and the Desire Z in the list of pocket blowers supporting the Sense UI.

Although nothing more is known about the Mecha besides its transformer-esq walking machine name, HTC’s run of producing market leading handsets has many excited over the possibilities for the upcoming device set to run the high-end Sense user interface.

Whilst this is not the first time that HTC has leaked one of its top devices ahead of its official unveiling, this latest leak in certainly one of the most blatant and high-profile outings.

Stay tuned to T3.com and the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds for all the latest on the leaked HTC handset including specs, prices and release dates.

Apple iPhone 5 to feature integrated SIM card?

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 03:19 AM PDT

Apple working on integrated SIM for iPhone 5

As rumour and speculation surrounding the touted iPhone 5 grows, new reports suggest that the predicted Apple handset will include an integrated SIM card allowing Apple to assign networks to individual handsets at customer’s request.

The technology reportedly being worked on by Steve Jobs’ team ahead of the next addition to its iPhone range is believed to come in the form of an integrated chip which will carry subscriber identification information and ultimately see the end of the little plastic cards currently issued directly from network service providers.

If included in the iPhone 5 handset, which is expected to follow Apple’s annual product cycle with a June 2011 release, the integrated SIM device would make purchasing a pocket blower direct from Apple’s online or highstreet stores an easier process for consumers.

With users able to pick a network provider at the point of sale, Apple could simply program the new device to that company’s service eliminating the need for shoppers to wait for networks to activate the handset or for the arrival of the corresponding SIM.

Whilst this muted integration would provide consumers with a simpler shopping experience and more control over their devices, it would essentially eliminate the network’s highstreet stores from the shopping chain of what will no doubt be one of the most popular handsets on the market.

What features would you like to see integrated into the expected iPhone 5? Share your thoughts, hopes and predictions with us via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Samsung Google Nexus Two coming November 8th?

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 03:08 AM PDT

Will it be Android 2.3 or 3.0?

The web is alive with rumour today that a sequel to the Google Nexus One smartphone, naturally called the Nexus Two, will be with us this side of Christmas courtesy of Samsung. Where does this gossip come from? The image to the right, which promises a new Android Sammie handset on November 8th.

We wouldn’t go as far as to say that this is a dead cert, firstly because Motorola is also hotly tipped to be the Nexus Two’s manufacturer, and secondly because Google has said themselves that the company doesn’t really have any plans for a sequel.

Google
CEO Eric Schmidt has been noted as saying on the matter: The idea a year and a half ago was to do the Nexus One to try to move the phone platform hardware business forward. It clearly did. It was so successful, we didn’t have to do a second one. We would view that as positive but people criticised us heavily for that. I called up the board and said: ‘Ok, it worked. Congratulations – we’re stopping’.

What do you think: Will Samsung be behind the Nexus Two? Let us know on the T3 Twitter feed.
