Apple A6 processor reportedly enters testing ahead of iPad 3 and iPhone 6 inclusion With the iPhone 5 and mooted iPad 2 Plus still nothing more than rumour and speculation new reports have suggested that Apple is already testing the A6 processor expected to land in the long off iPad 3 and iPhone 6 devices.
With the current iPad 2 included 1GHz dual-core A5 processor expected to land in the mooted iPhone 5 handset this September, new reports have suggested Apple is to drop A5 manufacturer Samsung from the production of the A6 chip as the next-generation processor enters early testing stages.
“We know that the iPad 3 will be the first of their iOS devices to get the new processor, so we should expect confirmation of this [new manufacturer] in March 2011,” tech blog Product Reviews announced earlier today.

Apple release expected in September suggests expert Posted: 15 Jul 2011 08:17 AM PDT
Griffin Technology UK head tells T3 he expects to see an Apple announcement in September Apple’s iPhone 5 handset is expected to launch in September although its final feature list remains a well kept secret, an industry expert and iPhone accessory provider has revealed to T3.
Speaking with T3.com on the iPhone 5 this week ,Tony Johnson, UK Manager of Griffin Technology, declared that “there will be some sort of announcement from Apple in September” despite insisting his company has not been made privy to the mooted handset’s specifications. Keen to highlight a lack of insider knowledge Johnson added: "what that will refer to as to whether iPod, iPhone or iPad, we just don’t know."
The Apple iPhone 5 rumour mill has been kicked into overdrive of late with the widely expected September iPhone 5 release date being thrown into uncertainty. Whilst an Apple job listing has hinted that the iPhone 5 release date will now fall on August 16th, a new report out earlier today claimed Apple has delayed the iPhone 5 arrival due to the included A5 dual-core processor chip causing the device to overheat.
“These rumours don’t really affect what we are doing in terms of product development,” Johnson stated, “It just means that this increased online chatter creates an added nervousness ahead of the official announcement.”
When do you think Apple will finally unveil the eagerly awaited iPhone 5 handset, August, September, later? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Microsoft social networking service leaks as Google+ rival Posted: 15 Jul 2011 07:50 AM PDT
Microsoft has leaked its own upcoming social network as it prepares to take on Google+ and Facebook Microsoft looks set to take on Google once again with the new Google+ social network seemingly in the company’s scope after the Redmond based computer giant accidentally published details on its own upcoming social service.
Codenamed Tulalip, Microsoft’s upcoming social service was accidentally leaked via internal sources early today with the service’s front page making a brief appearance via the Socl.com URL suggesting Microsoft is planning to unveil a Google+ and Facebook competitor.
Promptly removed by Microsoft with a departing note left in its place, the Tulalip social service was shown off with an aesthetic based heavily on that of the company’s Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system suggesting the service could boast a number of mobile-centric capabilities.
“Thanks for stopping by. Socl.com is an internal design project from a team in Microsoft Research which was mistakenly published to the web,” the Socl.com holding page now reads before concluding: “We didn’t mean to, honest.”
Can any Microsoft social network compete with the likes of Google+ and Twitter or has Facebook already cornered the social networking market? Let us know via the T3’s very own Twitter and Facebook feeds.

iPad 3 features to see new form factor as parts leak Posted: 15 Jul 2011 04:28 AM PDT
The iPad 3 release is one step closer as the first iPad 3 features were outed by newly leaked parts The first components of Apple’s mooted iPad 3 tablet have leaked online with the new part revealing the company’s plans to change the form factor of the market leading tablet.
Although an obscure and seemingly unimportant piece of tech innards at first glance, the reported iPad 3 component labelled the ‘821-1259-06’ has revealed Apple is to change the iPad’s design for the third-generation release whilst maintaining the white and black colour schemes.
Said to be sourced from Apple’s “internal inventory” and leaked via web forum Apple.pro, a site responsible for leaking the latest iPod Nano prior to its formal arrival, the first iPad 3 component leak has offered an intriguing glance at what the future Apple tablet might have in store.
With tradition suggesting Apple is to launch the iPad 3 around April of 2012, recent reports have claimed Apple will launch a newly revamped tablet dubbed the iPad 2 Plus or iPad HD alongside the iPhone 5 this September.
What features would you like to see included on the mooted iPad 3? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Sales figures make worrying reading for Ninty execs. The Nintendo 3DS has gained quite the cult following since its launch earlier this year. But that hasn’t translated into blockbuster sales figures, with the latest stats showing the old-school Nintendo DS outsold its three-dimensional stablemate by more than 2:1.
While official Nintendo numbers show the 3DS shifted 143,000 in June, the DS sold an impressive 386,000. The latter figure covers all versions of the DS currently available, except the 3DS.
Considering the song and dance made about the glasses-free 3D device, Nintendo will not be too happy to see such returns. It’ll be hoping the launch of the Netflix service on the console in the US, coupled with plans for 3D movies, will help it surge in the run up to Christmas.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer features outed Posted: 15 Jul 2011 02:58 AM PDT
New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer features have been detailed by developer Infinity Ward Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 developer Infinity Ward has released details on a number of new features set to land in the upcoming addition to the COD franchise.
Stating that Modern Warfare 3 will support a more “COD 4 mentality”, Infinity Ward has revealed that it is to limit the number of hiding hotspots in multiplayer maps where eager gamers can camp out to await easy kills.
Stating that Modern Warfare 3 is “all about the high-speed, fast-paced-and smooth controls and 60-frames-per-second framerate-infantry-focused combat" Bowling added that the upcoming release would arch back to the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title.
"I feel like it's something we nailed with Call of Duty 4. We moved away from it a little bit with MW2, relying heavily on air support, killstreaks, perks and stuff like that. Modern Warfare 3, very much [is] building up from that Call of Duty 4 mentality of gun-on-gun, fast-paced infantry gameplay."
With a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 release date pencilled in for November 8th the latest COD title is to go head-to-head with Battlefield 3 for the title of the year’s biggest gaming release and the coveted Christmas number one.
Which gaming release are you most looking forwarding to getting in your game consoles this winter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

iPhone 5 release delayed due to overheating A5 processor? Posted: 15 Jul 2011 02:48 AM PDT
Apple should have updated the iPhone 4 in June but didn't. Was that because the A5 chip making up the bulk of the iPhone 5 specs has been a danger? Apple has launched a new iPhone in June every year since its first release - except this year, of course, where the iPhone 5 failed to materialise. While there are a million theories as to why this might have been, a new one from Chinese site Sohu does have some legs. iPhone 5: rumours video (Updated) This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Microsoft planning "one ecosystem" for PC, Xbox and Windows Phone Posted: 15 Jul 2011 02:10 AM PDT
Plans unlikely to take effect until 2015 at earliest. Microsoft is said to be planning a major overhaul of its operating systems, with PC, Xbox 360 and Windows Phone all getting a “harmonised” single ecosystem from 2015. That’s according to sources speaking to This Is My Next, who’ve detailed this extreme move in the Big M’s thinking.
The Redmond company’s own Andy Lees said last week that the company was striving for “coherence and consistency” across the three platforms. But it seems these changes will be far more than cosmetic tweaks, as Microsoft looks beyond Windows Phone Mango and Windows 8.
The 2015 date would fit with the end of Windows 8’s time on shelves, not to mention the 10th anniversary of the Xbox 360. Microsoft has always maintained the console would see out a full decade’s service, despite chatter about an imminent sequel.
In practice, it’s still unclear just what this means. The same sources claim Microsoft could kill off the Windows name as part of the exercise, with a new name to cover the single OS for console, computer and mobile. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Windows Phone Mango out by September Posted: 15 Jul 2011 01:01 AM PDT
Competition winners set to be first to get hold of latest version of Windows Phone. Microsoft’s been touting its next-gen Windows Phone Mango software for some time, without ever saying exactly when it would be sitting pretty on phones. That’s all changed though, thanks to a Twitter slip up by the company, which revealed Mango would be out by September.
Referring to its own Imagine Cup student tech contest, the Big M said, “Imagine Cup finalists ALL receive Windows Phone 7.5 Mango Release!! Each student will get the phone by September!”
The tweet has caused plenty of web chatter, with many expecting Nokia to reveal the first phones running Windows Phone Mango in October. Interestingly, the Big M has since deleted the Twitter post, suggesting it might feel a bit jumpy about such an early release date.
Either way, it seems Mango is going to be with us very soon. Will the latest updates convince you to snag a Windows Phone? Or are you happy with what you’ve got. Tell us now via our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Google Android now on 130 million devices Posted: 14 Jul 2011 11:32 PM PDT
Open source OS ploughs on and has iOS in its sights. Google has announced that there are over 130 million Android devices out in the wild. And what’s more the Big G is activating a massive 550,000 of those every single day, a jump of 50,000 a day in the last three weeks alone.
The stats were unveiled during the company’s quarterly earnings call and show just how far the OS has come in the three short years it’s been available to mobile users.
What makes that headline figure even more eye-popping is the fact that it was only at its I/O conference in May this year that Google said there were 100 million Android devices. To grow by 30 million in under three months is nothing short of phenomenal.
Apple is still ruling the roost with 200 million iOS devices, but at this rate Google will have caught up with Cupertino by the end of 2011. Let us know what you think of these amazing stats over on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

New MacBook Air release date: 21/22 July Posted: 14 Jul 2011 11:17 PM PDT
Round of gossip and rumour-mongering finally set to come to an end next week. The new MacBook Air has been on the verge of coming out for weeks. But at last it looks as if Apple is about to pull the wrappers off of its updated slimline machines, with an announcement pegged for 21 or 22 July.
That’s according to All Things D, which has a strong track record in getting the very best information from inside Apple. It says “several sources” have confirmed the aforementioned dates, with one even sticking their head above the parapet and saying Apple fan sites were wrong to say the MacBook Air would be out this week.
As well as Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors and Thunderbolt I/O, it seems the machines will come with a minimum 128GB SSD, as opposed to the 64GB available now. Each one will also have a backlit keyboard.
