iPhone 5 price to see Apple launch $350 budget iPhone? Posted: 19 Jul 2011 04:21 AM PDT
Apple's iPhone 5 handset could land as a budget iPhone new reports have claimed Apple’s expected budget iPhone offering, the mooted iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S, is to launch alongside a new premium handset this September with a $350 price tag in the US, new reports have suggested.
Quoting an “incredibly solid source,” gadget blog Boy Genius Report has claimed Apple is to launch the budget iPhone this summer with the handset to touch down sporting a $350 (£217) pricing without the need for a costly contract.
Whilst recent reports have suggested the iPhone 5 will land with a radical new form factor, 8-megapixel camera with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities and a larger HD display, BGR suggests the budget iPhone will in fact be a rehash of the iPhone 3GS with the continued sale of the iPhone 4 and the new iPhone 5 allowing Apple to target the budget, mid and high-end smartphone markets.
The new reports come a day after the iPhone 5 reportedly leaked in a series of hands-on photographs after a claimed iPhone 5 prototype handset was caught on camera.
Will Apple launch a budget iPhone handset this year alongside the iPhone 5 or will the Cupertino company maintain its single handset cycle? Let us know what you think via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

BlackBerry PlayBook: RIM denies killing off Wi-Fi version Posted: 19 Jul 2011 03:09 AM PDT
Plans to rollout device in more countries says BlackBerry maker. The Wi-Fi version of the BlackBerry PlayBook is not being killed off. That’s the word directly from RIM, responding to claims that it was set to ditch the Wi-Fi-only model for 3G and 4G editions.
In a statement to CRN, RIM said, "Rumors [sic] suggesting that the Wi-Fi version of the BlackBerry PlayBook is being discontinued are pure fiction. Over the past month, the PlayBook has launched in 16 additional markets around the world and further rollouts are planned for Southeast Asia, Western Europe and the Middle East in the coming weeks."
The PlayBook’s struggles, and those of RIM in general, have been well documented. But it’s good to see this potentially killer device isn’t being given the heave. That said. the 3G and 4G models will have to be quick to shelves if they want to go toe-to-toe with the imminent iPad 3.

Large corporations are reportedly protecting their brands from embarrassment by snapping up .XXX domain names Ahead of the launch of the new .XXX internet domain suffix, companies are rushing to avoid corporate embarrassment by snapping up relevant domains that sport the adult industry address ending, new reports have claimed.

iPad 3: Retina Display rumours reignited Posted: 19 Jul 2011 01:00 AM PDT
Tidbit included in blog post about future of iPad magazines. The iPad 3’s screen resolution is more than likely to be given some kind of bump when the slate is next refreshed, possibly as soon as September this year. And now Daring Fireball’s John Gruber, a man renowned for his insider knowledge of the Cupertino company, has claimed the next-gen tab will tout a Retina Display.
In a blog post discussing how iPad magazines can improve and capture more users, Gruber says, “These magazines and newspapers that render each “page” as a static 1024 × 768 image are going to look like utter ass on the iPad 3’s 2048 × 1536 retina display.”
It’s a passing comment, but one which carries plenty of weight. Gruber is well known for calling correct release dates and specs for almost every Apple product, suggesting he has some good information to be able to make such a claim.
The 2048 x 1536 display backs up recent rumours about a so-called iPad HD, or iPad 2 Plus, which offers similar internals to the current model, but with an improved screen. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

iPhone 5 release date: more sources say August Posted: 18 Jul 2011 11:31 PM PDT
Release of next-gen phone shaping up for late summer. Gossip about the iPhone 5’s release date has been rumbling on for months. And while many had assumed it’d land some time in September, new tittle tattle seems to confirm Cupertino is working towards an August release.
BGR has spoken to, “…an incredibly solid source,” which has told it that the new iPhone will at least be shown off to the world, “…by the end of summer, late August-ish.” The news comes just days after it was revealed that Apple is hiring new staff to work on an major iPhone project from 16 August.
On top of the chatter around the iPhone 5, BGR’s source also says Apple’s planning on continuing to sell the iPhone 3GS, possibly as low as £217 SIM-free. Keeping the iPhone 4 on shelves as well means Apple will at last be able to compete with Google Android across the entire smartphone gamut.
