Doom ban lifted in Germany after 17 years Posted: 04 Sep 2011 02:30 AM PDT Posted by Devina Divecha on Sun 4 Sep 2011 Buy Doom legally in Germany outside of adult shops. The first person shooter game, Doom, is no longer under a ban in Germany. In 1994, Germany banned the widespread sale of Doom, which was legally available to buy only in adult shops. The change has come about since the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons (Bundesprufstelle) decided the game is now only of historical interest and will not be harmful for children. An appeal was made by the game's creators, id Studios, which said many of the current gaming titles show more violence and horror than the original Doom series. However, there is a version of the game which contains Nazi symbols that is still on the blacklist. Do you think the game should've been released for wider sales years ago? Let us know what you think about banning games in general through our Twitter and Facebook pages and stay tuned in for more tech news.
