A custom design for each club. Even Leeds.

The Football League has launched an Official Clubs' app for Android to allow you to follow your team and keep up with all the action outside the Premier League.

The Official Clubs' app, which was downloaded 350,000 times for the iPhone last season, now comes to Google phones with a design for each of the 72 clubs from Aldershot to Yeovil Town.

Naturally the app will provide latest scores, results, news, fixtures, league tables and access to the Football League podcast, however if you want the really good stuff, you're going to have to cough up a few quid.

A subscription to the app will bring you extended match highlights from each game, a video newscast featuring player interviews and a Google Mapping service which will provide directions to each stadium, if you travel around following your club.

The paid subscription costs £1.49 a month, £7.99 for six months or £12.99 for the whole year.

With the iPhone 5 release date expected to take place next month, new reports have suggested Apple is to hold an official unveiling event for the much mooted handset on October 4th with new Apple CEO Tim Cook to take the reigns for the first time.

The latest in a long line of iPhone 5 rumours, the new reports from The Wall Street Journal’s tech blog AllThingsD cites “sources close to the situation” in stating Apple will finally make the long awaited iPhone 5 official in just under two weeks time.

Numerous reports in recent weeks have claimed Apple is working to an October 21st iPhone 5 release date with leaked iPhone 5 pictures suggesting the handset will land boasting the same A5 dual-core processor as the iPad 2. Further iPhone 5 specs tipped for inclusion will see an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities land alongside a new, slimmer form factor.

Posted: 21 Sep 2011 03:01 AM PDT

Facebook's news feed will offer up relevant stories depending on how often you check in.

Facebook has revealed its latest round of changes, showing off a new look news feed. In a major update, users will see what’s relevant to them depending on how often they visit the social network’s website.

That means if you hit up Facebook once a week, you’ll be give the top stories from the past seven days. If you’re a Facebook junkie and check it constantly, you’ll be served up all the very latest status updates, images and videos.

Images have also been given an overhaul. They now appear larger in your news feed, so you can easily see what’s going on without having to click and enlarge every time something piques your interest.

On top of the news feed changes, Zuckerberg and co have also unveiled a new ticker. This sits in the top right hand corner of every page and tells you what your friends are doing in real time on Facebook. From there you can click and join in the conversation.

Google+ opens to everyone, adds hangouts for mobile

Posted: 21 Sep 2011 02:10 AM PDT

Now anyone can sign up for Google+. But is the social network really worth joining?

Google+ is now open to anyone to join, with new users no longer requiring an invite to get involved. The news comes as Google moves the social network out of ‘field trial’ and into beta.

On top of that, Hangouts are now available on mobile. Users just need to tap into the Google+ mobile app, find an active hangout and hit join. It means you can have video chats with multiple friends from your blower. At the moment the feature only works with Android 2.3 phones, with iOS support coming soon.

There’s also a new Hangout On Air feature which will let you record and broadcast hangouts. Google is hoping this will bring networks and broadcasters on board, although the concept does appear somewhat bizarre. You can also now share docs, images and screen shots via hangouts.

The question is, who’s interested? Recent research has suggested a sharp drop off in active users, as Google+ struggles to compete with Facebook and Twitter. Let us know via our Facebook and Twitter pages if you’re still using Google+.

Motorola Atrix 2: new leak reveals all

Posted: 21 Sep 2011 12:56 AM PDT

Specs and details of Motorola Atrix 2 revealed ahead of release later this year.

The Motorola Atrix has been one of 2011’s best gadgets. Hell, it even took top spot in this year’s T3 Hot 100. But Moto isn’t resting on its laurels, with details of the forthcoming Motorola Atrix 2 being unceremoniously leaked online.

BGR has got the inside line on this next-gen version of the world’s first dockable smartphone. While it won’t cram in LTE smarts Stateside, it will come 1080 video skills, a dual core processor and 8 megapixel camera.

The chaps at BGR reckon it’ll be out before the end of the year, pegging it for release by the end of November. It’ll run the very latest version of Android Gingerbread, as well as offering punters the chance to hook it up to the slew of already available Atrix accessories.

Has this convinced you to wait before upgrading your smartphone? Let us know now on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

White iPod touch: full details revealed

Posted: 20 Sep 2011 11:41 PM PDT

New iPod touch will be getting new colour, but other specs are likely to stay the same.

The iPod touch looks certain to get a paint job in the next few weeks, with Apple set to reveal a white version of its bestselling PMP. However, that’s just about the only change that will be made to the device, with internal specs staying the same.

The information comes from MacRumors, which says it has got hold of the full skinny on Apple’s upgrade. As well as the new white look, the screen will get an oleophobic coating and there’ll be a new ambient light sensor.

That suggests any talk of a so-called iPod touch 3G is wide of the mark. The new media player is expected to be revealed alongside the iPhone 5 at a special Apple event in the first week of October.

Nikon 1: world's smallest interchangeable lens cameras revealed

Posted: 20 Sep 2011 11:31 PM PDT

Nikon 1 finally gives camera maker chance to compete with Olympus PEN, Sony NEX and Panasonic micro-four thirds snappers.

Nikon has just given the official nod to its new Nikon 1 camera system. Comprising the Nikon J1 and Nikon V1, the camera maker says these are the smallest, lightest and fastest interchangeable lens cameras in the world.

Not ones to shy away from hyperbole, Nikon says this is its, “…most significant announcement since we introduced our first digital camera 14 years ago.” That might be a bit strong, but each camera finally puts Nikon on an equal footing with the likes of the Olympus PEN and Sony NEX series of snappers.

What makes these cameras really stand out is the Nikon EXPEED 3 sensor. It has two engines that can take care of a frankly ludicrous 600 megapixels a second, letting you reel off stunning shots in quick sharp time without reducing quality.

The Nikon V1 comes with a 100% viewfinder, a port for myriad new Nikon 1 accessories and a magnesium alloy frame so it can withstand bumps and scrapes. The Nikon J1 is the smaller of the two and comes in an array of colours, with similraly hued interchangeable lenses to match.

But it’s what’s inside that really impresses. On top of the EXPEED 3, there are stacks of ace new auto modes, including motion snapshot, which simultaneously takes a slow-mo video and still image, stitching the results together for a perfect shot. Smart Photo Selector takes 20 shots with one click, starting before you’ve fully pressed the shutter, offering up a perfect shot in seconds.

There are a slew of new 1-mount accessories, including flashes and viewfinders, as well as a new range of 1 Nikkor lenses, each offering something different depending on what you want the Nikon 1 cameras to do.

The basic Nikon V1 kit, with 10-30mm lense will costs an eye-popping £829, while the same lens with the Nikon J1 will costs £549.99. Sales start on 20 October, with more lenses and accessories to come later in the year.

iPhone app news: Instagram 2.0 brings hi-res photos

Posted: 20 Sep 2011 10:29 AM PDT

The Hipster's photo-sharing app of choice just got better.

Instagram has launched the second incarnation of its massively popular iPhone photo-sharing app.

Instagram 2.0, which is now available for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad (although it isn't optimised for the tablet) now adds the opportunity to upload high resolution photographs.

Previously, the Polaroid-like app, spat out photos of 612 x 612, but thanks to the new build, Instagram now captures pictures at over three times that size at 1936 x 1936 (1536 x 1536 on the iPhone 3GS).

Also on the menu is a completely rebuilt engine, which speeds up the process adding filters to your photos and a new user-interface that makes editing and sharing snaps even simpler.

Naturally, there's also a few new filters to give your snaps that super-retro-oldy-worldy-vintage (or Hipster) feel. The four newbies are Amaro, Rise, Hudson and Valencia.

There's still no sign of an Android Instagram app. Perhaps the makers like the cool factor the iPhone exclusivity affords them, or they feel that the vast majority of Android cameras aren't fit to lace the iPhone's boots? Either way, still no love for Android.

Google Wallet rolled out in US

Posted: 20 Sep 2011 03:06 AM PDT

After months of testing, Google Wallet finally rolled out to selected Android phones across the pond.

Google Wallet, the search giant’s much-vaunted mobile payment app, has finally been rolled out in the US. The Big G announced last night that punters who own a Nexus S 4G on the Sprint network will be the first to get a taste of the service, with an over-the-air update adding the app as we speak.

At the moment, users can only use Citi Mastercard or Google’s own prepaid card to stump up for stuff. But that all looks set to change with Google revealing on its official blog that Visa, Discover and American Express have revealed NFC specifications, meaning those cards could soon be added to the service.

While at the moment you can only use Google Wallet to pay for stuff, the plan is to bring train tickets and boarding passes to the service in the future. Don’t be surprised to see Apple fire back with its own offering when the iPhone 5 launches.

Facebook music and movie ticker set to be revealed

Posted: 20 Sep 2011 02:12 AM PDT

Facebook music and movie services to be detailed at Thursday's f8 event in San Francisco.

Facebook is set to reveal a new music and movies “ticker”, letting users see what their friends are watching and listening to in real time. The new offering will be outed at the social network’s f8 conference, taking place on 22 September in San Francisco.

Word is that the ticker will be separate from the current news feed, although some key information about users’ watching and listening habits will be shared there. Tie-ups with Spotify and movie streaming services are expected to be unveiled by Mark Zuckerberg, as he looks to increase Facebook’s influence on the entertainment industry.

Newspapers are also said to be getting in on the act, with Facebook users able to read content within the social network itself, rather than clicking on a link to take them away from the site.

With Facebook claiming that its ‘Like’ button for web articles has increased traffic to media websites by four times, you can bet every company going will want to know just what Zuckerberg has planned next.

We’ll be bringing you news from f8 as it happens, so stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter for breaking news as it happens.

HP TouchPad Go spied

Posted: 20 Sep 2011 12:55 AM PDT

7-inch HP TouchPad Go killed off before it was released. Now a Chinese gadgeteer has snagged one and posted pics for all to see.

HP’s TouchPad Go was meant to be released at the end of the summer, but failed to see the light of day thanks to the company’s decision to stop selling kit packing its ailing webOS software.

But now an intrepid Chinese tech lover has managed to get his hands on the slate and has posted snaps of the device for all to see. The 7-inch tablet has a 4:3 aspect ratio, packing 16GB storage, a 1.5GHz processor and even NFC smarts.

Considering how well the regular TouchPad sold after HP slashed its price, it seems a shame that the Go was never given a chance. After all, HP could probably have shifted a fair few if it had offered it as part of a cut price deal.

Have you got a TouchPad? Wish HP would just release the TouchPad Go rather than sitting on its ageing stock? Tell us what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Sony: Nintendo 3DS analogue stick "shocking"

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 11:40 PM PDT

New Nintendo 3DS stick designed to give console extra analogue stick and shoulder buttons. But Sony seems not to care about Ninty's plans ahead of PS Vita launch.

Nintendo’s decision to unveil a somewhat cheap looking Nintendo 3DS peripheral, designed to add shoulder buttons and a second analogue stick to the handheld hub, has been widely dismissed as a bizarre ploy to up sales.

And now Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida, who runs the company’s worldwide gaming studios, has said he can’t get his head around it. In an interview with Game Informer, the exec said, “ It was a bit shocking to see what they came up with."

He added, “Well it's not like they looked at PS Vita and said 'we need to do that as well. I don't know. It's clear that they didn't believe a second analogue was necessary when they designed the 3DS.”

Sony seems to be unconcerned by the 3DS, perhaps because of its failure to catch on since its launch earlier this year. It all means the Big S is more than confident of the PS Vita’s success. The console is due to hit UK shelves after Christmas, landing in Japan before the festive season.

Motorola 7-inch Android tablet spotted

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 11:26 PM PDT

Leaked Motorola 7-inch Android tablet spotted. Is this the much-needed successor to the Xoom?

Motorola’s Xoom was supposed to be the iPad-challenger to beat them all. Yet the 10-inch tablet has hardly set the world alight. But now a leaked spy shot of what appears to be a 7-inch Motorola Android tablet has set tongues wagging and got us wondering whether Moto might actually be priming the release of a proper iPad-botherer.

The new-look tablet seems to be much slimmer than the rather chunky Xoom, with ThisIsMyNext, who managed to snag the photo, suggesting it comes micro USB and micro HDMI ports down the bottom.

Sadly there’s no word on when we’ll be seeing this new Motorola Android tablet on shelves. But the company’s CEO has said before that it plans to release a new look Xoom successor later this year.

Happy to hold out for this new Android effort? Or still sticking with your iPad? Let us know now on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
