iPhone app news: Zombies, Run! Unique fitness game

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 11:44 AM PDT

The illusion of being chased by zombies would make the best of us run faster.

A new app for Android and iPhone will see fitness fanatics 'chased' by hordes of brain-hungry zombies every time they go out for a run.

The Zombies, Run! app, which is currently seeking funding, will give you instructions through your headphones and encourage you to complete missions.

The action takes place during a continually evolving story, in which you play the role of "Runner 5" and are in charge of rebuilding society following a zombie Apocalypse. Each run is a new mission in that effort.

The app doesn't use augmented reality, (although that would be stupendously cool), it just encourages you to hit checkpoints, which count as 'picking up medical supplies.'

You'll hear the army of undead souls groaning in your ears, which if you're running at night, is sure to increase your minutes per mile. Missions last between 20 and 30 minutes and there will be 30 missions to complete in Season 1.

The idea is that every time you run, you'll encounter a new part of the story as users seek to rebuild the city and instructions will be delivered in between songs on your custom playlist.

The app will, of course, use GPS to let you know your distance, time and calories burned, while giving you that extra incentive to run more often and for longer.

The app is scheduled to launch for iPhone in February 2012, while an Android iteration will come in May. It's probably the most unique concept for a fitness app we've ever encountered so we're really keen to get our paws on this.

iPhone 5 picture leaks outing A5 dual-core CPU inclusion

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 10:15 AM PDT

Apple iPhone 5 specs have been outed ahead of the iPhone 5 release date as a new iPhone 5 picture reveals the handset will boast an A5 dual-core processor

With the iPhone 5 release date expected to be announced in the coming weeks, newly leaked iPhone 5 pictures have emerged showing the handset’s shell sporting the A5 processor currently found within the iPad 2.

The latest iPhone 5 picture, which was posted by an anonymous tipster on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, reveals little of the eagerly awaited handset’s physical form factor yet offers what is seemingly an uninhibited look at the innards of Apple’s next-generation handset.

With much speculation suggesting the arrival of the iPhone 5 will see a second, mid-range smartphone dubbed the iPhone 4S land, it is unknown which handset this leaked shot is supposed to relate to. With the 1GHz dual-core A5 processor found within the iPad 2 unlikely to be enough for the iPhone 5 to compete with the 1.2GHz dual-core Samsung Galaxy S II and 1.5GHz HTC Sensation XE, it could well be that the snapped handset is the iPhone 4S.

Further iPhone 5 specs leaked by this latest snap shot include the device’s battery with the iPhone 4’s 1420 mAh battery looking set to be replaced by a 1430 mAh offering.

In recent weeks dozens of iPhone 5 rumours have landed with the pick of the bunch suggesting an October 21st iPhone 5 release date is likely with the most hyped handset in history to land sporting an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities and a new, slimmer form factor.

Could a 1GHz dual-core processor be enough for the iPhone 5 to compete with the already released dual-core powerhouses? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Samsung Galaxy S III leaks: Full specs outed online

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 07:35 AM PDT

Following the success of the Samsung Galaxy S II new Samsung Galaxy S III specs have leaked online ahead of an expected 2012 Samsung Galaxy S 3 release date

With the Samsung Galaxy S II continuing to dominate the smartphone market following its official unveiling at Mobile World Congress 2011 back in February, the handset’s replacement has been outed with Samsung Galaxy III specifications leaking online.

A Samsung representative is claimed to have revealed the specifications of the company’s next-generation flagship handset kicking off what will no doubt become a long, drawn-out saga of varying Samsung Galaxy S III rumours.

Tipped as sporting Google’s next-generation mobile operating system Android Ice Cream Sandwich the Samsung Galaxy S III is reportedly being prepped to play host to a mighty 2GHz Quad-core processor alongside 1.5GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage.

Further upping the impressive specs haul the mooted Samsung Galaxy S III is apparently set to feature a 10-megapixel camera with Full HD 1080p video recording capabilities and a whopping 4.65-inch Super AMOLED 1280 x 1024p resolution display.

The first Samsung Galaxy S III rumour to cross our paths, these reports are likely to continue for a number of months with any third-generation Galaxy S device unlikely to touch down until next year.

Whilst we must stress that these leaked specs must be taken with a hefty pinch of salt the tech feast on offer posses a tantalising insight into the potential of future smartphones.

T3 has contacted Samsung directly for confirmation or comment on these Samsung Galaxy S III leaks. Stay tuned for further details.

What do you think of the hugely impressive leaked Samsung Galaxy S III specs, fact or fiction? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 gameplay trailer released

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 04:58 AM PDT

Game developer EA has released the first Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 gameplay trailer ahead of the October 28th Battlefield 3 release date outing a selection of Battlefield 3 weapons, vehicles and content

Ahead of next month’s Battlefield 3 release date developers DICE and EA have released the first full Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 gameplay trailer outing the high-profile title’s impressive console-bound content.

Whilst the Xbox 360 gameplay trailer is less graphically sharp and as fast-paced and action packed as its PC-bound counterpart which has played host to a number of recently released Battlefield 3 videos, the Xbox 360 offering looks set to challenge the likes of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 release as the highest selling gaming release of the year.

Building on from last week’s Battlefield 3 Operation Guillotine trailer which outed night missions on a PC build, the newly released Xbox trailer shows an extended version of the intense mission with a variety of weapons, vehicles and combat types shown off.

With a Battlefield 3 release date set for October 28th the contender for the coveted Christmas number 1 in the UK gaming charts is to land less than two weeks ahead of its bitter rival with a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 release date set for November 8th.

Which of the year’s two biggest FPS titles are you most excited about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Dead Island tops UK Gaming Chart for second week

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 04:14 AM PDT

Dead Island tops UK All Format Gaming Chart for second week as Driver: San Francisco falls and Rugby World Cup 2011 puts in another strong performance

Deep Silver’s zombie thriller Dead Island has recorded a second week atop the UK All Format Gaming Charts with just a single new entry penetrating the top 40 in the past seven days.

With a fleet of high profile releases to hit stores in the coming weeks including F1 2011, FIFA 12, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3, the UK game chart saw a final quiet week before the battle for the coveted Christmas number one slot escalates.

Recording its second consecutive week in pole position Dead Island once again held off competition from Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine in second with Resistance 3 rising one spot to replace Driver: San Francisco on the final step of the podium.

Falling behind the latest Driver title; former chart toppers Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Zumba Fitness filled fifth and sixth places respectively with LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean in seventh.

Continuing to prove popular alongside the ongoing tournament Rugby World Cup 2011 ended the week in eighth spot with LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and Cars 2 completing the top ten. Sony’s God of War Collection II was the only top 40 new entry hitting the charts in 35th position.

iPhone 5 release bans planned by Samsung?

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 03:51 AM PDT

Following the Apple iPhone 5 release date new reports have suggested Samsung is to attempt to stop sales of the Samsung Galaxy S II challenger as legal disputes continue between the two companies

As the ongoing legal battle between Apple and Samsung continues to escalate, new reports have suggested Samsung plans to file an injunction preventing the sale of the Apple iPhone 5 in Korea.

Whilst Samsung has been forced to reveal designs and prototype models of its upcoming handsets and tablets to Apple in recent months, its attempts of getting a sneak peak at the much mooted iPhone 5 have been refused by the courts.

Now, however, the Korea Times has reported that a Samsung executive has revealed the Galaxy S II manufacturer is to attempt to ban the iPhone 5 from sale in its native Korea following the eagerly awaited iPhone 5 release date.

“Just after the arrival of the iPhone 5 here, Samsung plans to take Apple to court here for its violation of Samsung’s wireless technology patents,” the unnamed Samsung executive reportedly announced.

“For as long as Apple does not drop mobile telecommunications functions, it would be impossible for it to sell its i-branded products without using our patents,” the executive added. “We will stick to a strong stance against Apple during the lingering legal fights.”

Latest iPhone 5 rumours have suggested the highly speculated handset will land next month with an October 21st iPhone 5 release date to see the next-gen smartphone feature an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video recording capabilities, a dual-core processor and a heavily redesigned form factor.

What features would you most like to see make the grade for the Apple iPhone 5? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Prestige Edition canned

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 03:04 AM PDT

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 developer Infinity Ward has confirmed that there will be no Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Prestige Edition release much to gamers disappointment

Ahead of the ever nearing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 release date the game’s developer Infinity Ward has revealed the eagerly awaited FPS title will not play host to the franchises Prestige Edition release.

Making the announcement via micro-blogging site Twitter Infinity Ward Creative Strategist Robert Bowling confirmed the expected Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Prestige Edition release would not come to light with gamers having to make do with standard and Hardened editions of the game.

“There is no Prestige Edition, only a Hardened Edition for #MW3,” Bowling tweeted to end speculation of the deluxe version of the next Call of Duty franchise edition.

Recent Call of Duty titles have been made available with a Prestige Edition release with last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Prestige Edition coming bundled with a working remote control car. A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 release date has been set for November 8th, less than two weeks after the Battlefield 3 release date.

Are you disappointed by the lack of a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Prestige Edition or just eager to get your mitts and gamepads around the upcoming title? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.
