Real Racing 2 offers 16-player support for iPhone, iPod Touch

Posted: 12 Dec 2010 07:22 AM PST

Crash and bang your way through a sequel of the iOS racing game

Real Racing 2 will offer a 16-player online racing feature with 30 real-world cars when it goes on sale on 16 December for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch.

According to the developer, Firemint, up to 16 players can play the game together online via wi-fi to complete. No other iOS game till now offers a 16-player limit for online play. Local playing can support up to 8 players.

Firemint has also confirmed that damage modelling - accurate representations of banged up cars - will be included, something which not many portable racing games see. Thirty cars we see in the real world can be found on this game, including a range from brands such as BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Jaguar, Lotus, McLaren, Nissan, Volkswagen and Volvo.

With over 10 hours of gameplay and a range of events spread over 5 tiers, gamers can earn in-game currency in order to trade cars and buy upgrades. In addition, with 5 camera angles and a 3D cockpit view, Real Racing will be supported on all iPhones and iPod Touch devices running iOS 3.1 and newer.

Real Racing 2 can be with iPhone and iPod Touch owners on 16 December for £5.99.

Microsoft to release updates on Patch Tuesday

Posted: 12 Dec 2010 06:15 AM PST

Microsoft is ending their year with releasing necessary software patches.

A massive Patch Tuesday update has been scheduled by Microsoft.

The company will be releasing the big end-of-year patch for vulnerability flaws in Microsoft Office, Windows, Internet Explorer, SharePoint and Exchange.

The 17 updates being released this week will address 40 such vulnerabilities. Two are rated critical, 14 are rated important and 1 is rated moderate.

In a blog post on the Microsoft Security Recovery Centre, Mike Reavey (a Director at MSRC) said that the total number of bulletins released in 2010 to address vulnerabilities have been 106, a slightly higher number than previous years.

He also said, "At the end of the day, Microsoft's primary focus is to release reliable, high-quality updates to our customers. Feedback from customers indicate that this is the most important factor in minimizing disruption and allowing them to deploy our updates quickly - even more important than the overall number of security updates."

Mass Effect 3 to land Christmas 2011

Posted: 12 Dec 2010 03:28 AM PST

Mass Effect 3 trailer confirms London will be burning.

Fans of the Mass Effect series have double the reason to be happy: Mass Effect 2 for PS3 is set to land towards the end of January 2011 and Mass Effect 3 has been officially announced to hit stores at the end of 2011.

Bioware officially confirmed that the third installment of the sci-fi game will land in UK - quite literally - towards the end of 2011 at the Spike VGAs. Our very own Blighty made an appearance in the debut trailer, with a burning London under attack by the Reapers and Commander Shepard is needed to save the Earth. No platforms have been announced as yet.

Until we get our hands on this anticipated release, Mass Effect 2 should satisfy us. Mass Effect 2 for PlayStation 3 will arrive in Europe - including UK - on 21 January 2011, just 3 days after it releases across the pond, which Electronic Arts has confirmed to IGN.

Unfortunately the first installment of the series will not be released on PS3, staying instead as an Xbox 360 loyalist. Gamers will however find that Bioware is planning to include an interactive comic with the PS3 version to explain unmissable information from the first series. Whatever choices gamers make in the comic will transcend to the actual Mass Effect 2 gameplay.

The Blu-ray disc will also feature DLC Project Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker, Kasumi: Stolen Memory and the Blood Dragon Armor.

The trailer of Mass Effect 3 can be viewed here.

Amazon UK video games trade-in store launched

Posted: 12 Dec 2010 02:37 AM PST

Kicking the old video games habit has never been so rewarding.

Amazon is spreading holiday cheer in a different way: it's launched the beta version of their Video Games Trade-In store, where users can put up their games to swap for Amazon credit.

"Trading-in with Amazon.co.uk is quick and easy, providing customers with a great way to exchange their old games and save money on future purchases", said Chris Poad, director of video games at Amazon.co.uk.

Before you finally agree to part with once-loved games, users will be able to see how much they'll get for them. If you like the amount of credit you will receive, you can go ahead with the transaction. The games can then be sent to a free-post address with a pre-printed delivery label, so you don't even have to shell out money for postage. The Amazon credit you receive can be used for any future purchases.

With no extra fees for this service and a transparent way of working, this might be a better option to get rid of old video games. An example of what Amazon's Video Games Trade-In store can get you: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the PS3 is worth £9 and Fifa '11 on the Xbox 360 gives you £18.68.
