Call of Duty: Black Ops patch targets continued PS3 issues Posted: 22 Dec 2010 07:55 AM PST Black Ops PS3 issues continue Disgruntled PS3 touting Call of Duty: Black Ops gamers have been offered yet another downloadable patch as issues continue with the PlayStation edition of the year’s biggest entertainment release.
Despite a ‘major’ update being rolled out across all platforms last week, PS3 Black Ops users continued to feel cheated by developers Treyarch as issues with reduced graphical quality and frequent online connection problems hamper their gaming experience.
Speaking on its intent to correct all PS3 user issues, Black Ops’ creators said: "Treyarch is dedicated to ensuring the best gaming experience for the fans, and we've been actively working with you to continue to improve the game based on your feedback. As always, keep the feedback coming through the community forums."

iPad to get Kinect style motion-sensing controls dock Posted: 22 Dec 2010 07:23 AM PST Kinect meets iPad in motion-sensing dock Kinect-esque motion control could soon find its way to the iPad as tech firm Elliptic Labs prepares to show off its Touchless Gesture User Interface technology at CES 2011.
Having teased similar technologies for some time and demoed an unbranded device at IFA earlier this year, Elliptic Labs now appears ready to officially out its motion-sensing iPad dock prototype that will allow users to control their tablets without tarnishing the device with fingerprints.
Speaking on the upcoming device Elliptic Labs CEO Stian Aldrin said: "The idea is that you use touchless gestures to operate primary functions of a docked tablet in situations like when you have wet or greasy hands in the kitchen.”
He added: "In general tablets are made for being handheld. When it is docked you are often walking or standing further away, and then using a finger on the screen involves a change of modality. Rather than bending down, leaning forward or picking it up you can use larger movements a little bit further away to do things like volume up or next song without changing modality."
What technology would you like to see given a gesticulation control makeover? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds. For all the latest CES 2011 news check out the T3 CES website.

iPad 2 pictures leaked showing 7-inch form factor? Posted: 22 Dec 2010 03:00 AM PST Is this really the iPad Mini we've all been waiting for? Steve Jobs might hate 7-inch tablets, going as far as to say users would need to “sand down their fingers” for them to be any good. But that’s not stopped the iPad Mini bandwagon rolling, with a new snap purporting to show the slimmed down version in the wild.
The shot, seen here, shows Taiwanese racing driver Jimmy Lin apparently holding an iPad Mini in one hand, with a regular iPad in the other. The small version is certainly packing iOS, or a variant of it, but beyond that it’s unclear if this really is an Apple prototype.
Of course, rip off versions of the iPad are hardly difficult to come by. And with Jobs so dismissive of 7-inch slates, surely this one’s a fake.
What do you reckon? The real deal or a well put together homage to Apple’s tablet? Tell us what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Nintendo 3DS event set for January 19th Posted: 22 Dec 2010 02:44 AM PST 3DS UK release date and pricing to be revealed next month? Nintendo is set show off the 3DS in New York on January 19th as the first formal invites for a special preview event are sent out.
COO of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime is set to give a presentation at the press-only event which will also include "hands-on game play" and "demos" of the glasses-free 3D gaming device.
A similar event is set to take place in Holland on the same day for European folk to get a closer look at the 3DS and hopefully find out more about launch titles.
The 3DS is primed to launch in Japan first on February 26th 2011 with a price tag of 25,000 yen (£194), but a US and European 3DS launch date has yet to be confirmed by Nintendo. We fully expect all those issues to be cleared up on January 19th.

Call of Duty: Black Ops passes $1 billion worldwide Posted: 22 Dec 2010 02:01 AM PST News comes as first downloadable content primed for early 2011. We all know that Call of Duty: Black Ops has kicked a lot of big ass since it hit shelves at the start of November. But just in case everyone was starting to forget, Activision has just confirmed that the mega-selling game has passed the $1 billion sales mark.
That’s been reached by “internal Activision estimates”, but it still shows just how rampantly popular the first person shooter really is. The first downloadable content for Black Ops is due in February, and with it no doubt a whole load of money for Activision.
“In all of entertainment, only Call of Duty and Avatar have ever achieved the billion dollar revenue milestone this quickly,” said Activision boss Bobby Kotick.
It’s all the more impressive considering the raft of problems PS3 owners have had playing Black Ops online. But with 600 million gaming hours logged, it seems plenty of people aren’t struggling to play the planet’s hottest game. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

LittleBigPlanet 2 dated, again Posted: 22 Dec 2010 01:19 AM PST Save that Christmas money, because LBP2 is just around the corner. Sure, like us you were hoping Sony would pull its finger out and get LittleBigPlanet 2 onto PS3s the world over before Christmas. But at least now it’s been slapped with an official release date, the sequel to the awesome original landing 21 January here in the UK.
Continental gamers will get a taste two days earlier, with Australia and New Zealand feeling the love 24 hours before we get a chance to play nice.
LBP2 had been pegged for release at the end of November, but fell prey to delays. But with just four weeks to go until release, hopefully nothing untoward will stop it hitting shelves just in time to help beat the January blues.
LBP2 promises even more customisable levels, themed costumes and sharing skills. For more on this and other gaming stories, hit up our Facebook and Twitter pages now. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
HP PalmPad: three models set for CES Posted: 21 Dec 2010 11:54 PM PST Fourth, student-focused machine also being primed for CES. HP will roll out not one, but three versions of its webOS-packing PalmPad at CES in the first week in January. That’s according to a report for Fox News in the US, which also claims there’ll be a fourth model made specifically for students.
Word is that each version will run webOS 2.5.1, with a 1.3 megapixel front-facing and 3 megapixel rear-facing camera, mini HDMI and USB skills. The latter are of course missing from the current version of key rival, Apple’s iPad.
Interestingly, Fox also says the PalmPad will hit shelves in March, just as Apple gears up for the release of the iPad 2. With the BlackBerry PlayBook also slated for release then, March 2011 looks like it’ll be a hell of a month for tablets.
We’ll be coming live from CES, so don’t forget to stay tuned to get all the news as it happens, either right here or at our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Camera+ back in Apple App Store Posted: 21 Dec 2010 11:40 PM PST Volume controls no longer control app, but stacks of new features included. Camera+ has finally been given the green light to return to the App Store by Apple, four months after it was shown the virtual door for breaching Cupertino’s strict terms of service.
The app caused controversy as it allowed iPhone owners to use the volume buttons to work the camera’s shutter, stopping the need to awkwardly tap the screen every time a they wanted to take a photo. Apple said this broke rules about apps not changing the core functionality of its best-selling blower.
Having been readmitted after dropping the feature, Camera+ was then thrown out again for hiding the same feature in a newer edition of the app. However, it’s now returned, minus the volume control skills we loved so much.
That said, there’s a string of new skills, including new shooting modes, updated filters, exposure settings and the same grid layout to help you line up pics perfectly. Best of all, it now only costs 59p. Well worth a punt before Christmas. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
