News@8pm: Apple Mac App Store dated and Kinect porn Posted: 16 Dec 2010 12:00 PM PST Welcome to your nightly round-up of the day's news and goings on courtesy of T3.com. Apple’s Mac App Store is now more than a mere pipedream as Steve Jobs officially announces the Mac App Store will launch on January 6th. Why this post-Christmas date you may ask? Well, in a more than slightly petty manner, Jobs has decided to launch the new app store on the same day CES 2011 kicks off. Other Apple Mac themed news today as Apple is reportedly working on new MacBook Pro and iMac devices to launch early in 2011. January 6th arrival on the cards? Possibly.

New Kinect hacks are not a rarity, in fact they are more of an everyday occurrence yet today's new hack stands out from the rest. Adult game developer thriXXX has unveiled the world's first interactive Kinect-based sex game with users tasked with virtually handling a range of ladies' assets. If you after a more wholesome yet equally garish Kinect experience then the newly released Kinect featuring 5,000 Swarovski crystals could be the blinged up device you are looking for.

Tron: Legacy topless homage paid by Playboy Playmates Posted: 16 Dec 2010 09:07 AM PST Sci-Fi sequel given sexy makeover with Tron LightCycle With Tron: Legacy, the long awaited sequel to the 1982 classic, set to hit movie theatres across the globe tomorrow, December 17th, many companies are jumping on the merchandising bandwagon with gentleman’s publication Playboy the latest to add its seductively sexy stamp.
Game On – Playboy’s sexy tribute to the neon-lit Tron revival features Playboy Playmates Sasckya Porto, Miss December 2007, and Irina Voronina, Miss January 2001, in a scantily clad homage to the Sci-Fi flick that is once again attempting to break cinematic traditions with its clever uses of new 3D technologies and an immersive soundtrack penned by Daft Punk.
In an interview with T3 ahead of the Tron: Legacy UK premier earlier this month, the film’s leading lady Olivia Wilde cast her doubts on the widespread use of 3D in cinema declaring: : “Although I do think that certain stories warrant the 3D technique, the effect, I think certain stories don’t.”
Discussing her tech habits the actress who plays warrior Quorra announced: “I am pretty attached to technology, I spend a lot of time thinking about it. I am probably as dependant on technology as the average person is now, it’s a part of my day-to-day life. My favourite gadget is probably my iPhone although I do have an iPad, maybe that’s my favourite."

Facebook facial recognition photo tagging to be introduced Posted: 16 Dec 2010 08:27 AM PST Face-tagging to be automised in Facebook update Facebook is to add an automatic face-tagging system to its photo galleries elevating the tedium of manually selecting the individual faces in each image, new reports have revealed.
Set to be rolled out to Facebook’s US based users within the coming weeks the new system will automatically gather and group all images from an album it believes to include the same selected person. Once sourced, users will be able to tag the identified person in a single image with all relevant photographs subsequently being auto-tagged.
There is currently no word as to when the new system will be rolled out globally.
Stay tuned to T3.com and the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds for all the latest on the UK arrival of the upcoming Facebook automatic face-tagging system.

Scalextric launches iPhone & iPad app on Game Centre Posted: 16 Dec 2010 07:18 AM PST Race against the world using the Apple Game Centre. Here at T3 we love it when someone takes an old favourite and updates it for the modern age. Handheld Sega Megadrives, Polaroid pogo printers and Back to the Future videogames, our door is always open for you.
So when we saw that the game developers at Sabec had outed a Scalextric racing app for iPhone and iPad, our inner child jumped out and danced around the Christmas tree like a hyperactive Jack Russell terrier.
Scalextric, as you will remember, is the remote control racing car set that allows you to build your own rollercoaster-like race tracks with loop-the-loops, chicanes and hair-raising S-bends.
The iPhone and Android edition, which can be played against the world on Apple's new Game Centre, will also allow users to build their own circuits or set a personal best on pre-set tracks and on those designed by your fellow racers.
Game Centre compatibility will mean users can challenge friends to a race as well as taking on the game's AI cars in a one-on-one showdown.
For just 59p on the App Store, this looks like an absolutely steal. Check out the video below for a full demonstration.

Xbox Kinect hack launches first Kinect based sex game Posted: 16 Dec 2010 06:58 AM PST Kinect goes virtual porn with interactive sex game The world’s first sex-game based hack for Microsoft’s controller-free motion gaming peripheral Xbox Kinect has been released, just days after industry experts predicted Kinect Porn would land “within the month.”
Although Kinect hacks have been appearing on a daily basis since the device launched last month, the adult title released by thriXXX, a company that unsurprisingly specialised in 3D sex video games, is by far the most troubling to date. Its developers, describing the release, said: "The Kinect interface provides another exciting interface option for users of the sex simulation software to control the experience in extraordinary new ways!"
Although the interactive game currently involves a lot of gesticulation-based, ill mannered virtual breast exams thriXXX, which will make the Kinect hack software an option for all its game releases in 2011, has announced users will soon be able to "use full body or hand gestures, voice commands and even real world sex toy objects like vibrators to control interactions in-game and between two active participants."
Are Kinect based porn games all a good natured, humorous use of technology, or a creepy social oddity? Share your views with us via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds. Via: PocketLint This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Apple Mac App Store launch date set as January 6th Posted: 16 Dec 2010 06:20 AM PST CES 2011 opening day targeted by Apple Mac App Store launch Apple has today announced that the Mac App Store, first mentioned by Steve Jobs back in October, will open its virtual doors on January 6th.
Set to land in 90 countries on launch day, a date which by no coincidence matches the opening day of CES 2011, an event Apple has notoriously avoided, the Mac App Store will be available as a free download for Mac OS X Snow Leopard users.
Sticking with the tried, tested and hugely successful formula used for the current iPhone and iPad App Stores, the Mac App Store will allow users to "browse new and noteworthy apps, find out what’s hot, view staff favourites, search categories and read customer ratings and reviews.” Current iOS developers will be familiar with the Mac App Store’s policies as Apple continues with its existing 70 per cent to 30 per cent sales revenue split with developers continuing to set their own prices.
One difference that could be seen between the existing iOS App Stores and the incoming Mac App Store is the lack of ‘Lite’ or free apps with the official Apple guidelines for the new Mac OS store stating: "Your website is the best place to provide demos, trial versions, or betas of your software for customers to explore. The apps you submit to be reviewed for the Mac App Store should be fully functional, retail versions of your apps."
What apps would you most like to see land in the Mac App Store from launch? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds and stay tuned to T3.com for all the latest on the Mac App Store’s arrival. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
LG Optimus 2X Dual-core Android phone outed Posted: 16 Dec 2010 04:00 AM PST NVIDIA-loaded mobile heading to UK next year. The LG Optimus 2X Dual-core is the new official name for the already leaked LG Star. Mealy-mouthed moniker aside, this is a phone that comes fully loaded with some stunning specs.
The real headline grabber is the inclusion of NVIDIA’a Tegra 2 processor, hence the dual-core in the title. On top of that, we’re talking an 8 megapixel camera round the back, a 1.3MP camera for video calls, 1080p HD video recording, 4-inch WVGA touchscreen, 8GB of storage and DLNA.
LG says it’ll pack Android 2.2 FroYo when it hits Korea next month, before making its way to Europe. LG has said, however, that it’ll be upgradeable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It’s just a shame such a killer handset doesn’t have the latest version of the OS.

Back to the Future game to launch December 22nd Posted: 16 Dec 2010 03:31 AM PST PC and Mac release of BTTF game coming next week The first episode of the Back to the Future adventure game series will be available for PC and Mac from next Wednesday, December 22nd, developer Telltale Games has confirmed.
The game, which follows on from the near $1 billion grossing film trilogy first released 25 years ago, will launch with the opening episode ‘It’s About Time’ this month with four further playable episode downloads set to arrive early next year. February, March and April will see episodes titled ‘Get Tannen!’, ‘Citizen Brown’ and ‘Double Visions’ respectively before the finale episode dubbed ‘OUTATIME’ lands on a currently undisclosed date.
Whilst the first episode can be downloaded free of charge, the full five episode series is available for pre-ordered now for $24.95 with a collector’s DVD and free copy of the Puzzle Agents game. UK pricing has yet to be revealed.
Do you think the Back to the Future game will be as good as it should or merely tarnish one of the best film trilogies of all time? Share your thoughts with us via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Posted: 16 Dec 2010 03:31 AM PST Dual View and Android remote control unveiled. Google has unleashed the first update to its new TV service, rocking up on compatible Logitech set-top boxes and Sony TVs over in the States.
The changes see a new-look Dual View mode, allowing you to move the screen around and resize it while you’re surfing the web. The Netflix UI has been given a tinker and a new movie results page serves up deets on all the latest releases.
The big draw, though, is support for a new Android remote app. That means you can now control Google TV via your Android-packing smartphone.
Google TV is not set to launch here in Blighty until next year, but when it does, you can expect to get all these new features as standard when you splash the cash on a compatible TV or set top box.

Xbox Kinect given 5,000 Swarovski crystal makeover Posted: 16 Dec 2010 03:20 AM PST Garish crystal Kinect launches priced $632 Microsoft’s controller-free motion gaming peripheral Xbox Kinect is set to be one of the hottest gadget gifts this Christmas with a Swarovski crystal makeover giving the device a festively blinged makeover.
Adorning 5,000 Swarovski crystals and more sparkle than a six year old’s glitter-covered art project, the Kinect sensor features the same body recognition colour VGA Motion Camera with 640 x 480p resolution and 30 fps capture rate as its standard gloss black counterpart.
As the key festive shopping period nears its end for another year, it emerged earlier this week that Microsoft’s Kinect bundles are outselling fierce motion controlling rivals, Sony’s PlayStation Move, by a massive five to one as gamers opt for controller-less features ahead of pin-point accurate tracking.

MacBook Pro and iMac updates incoming? Posted: 16 Dec 2010 02:47 AM PST Hardware changes for top-end machines planned by Apple. Apple is working on new models of the iMac and MacBook Pro, which will be unveiled at the start of next year. That’s according to sources speaking to Digitimes, which have offered some juicy morsels about what we can expect.
While the design is expected to remain the same, word is the iMac will come in a new screen size, with a lower price tag. Currently, the iMac is available in 27-inch and 21.5-inch versions, with the cheapest model clocking in at £999.
In addition, there’ll be four new versions of the MacBook Pro, with internal hardware boosts expected. The top-end laptop line was last given a refresh last April, so expect speedier CPUs and more capacious hard drives, but not much else.
Enough to make you wait for a new Mac? Or will you just plump for one of the current range? Let us know now on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Three unveils truly unlimited data plan Posted: 16 Dec 2010 02:02 AM PST Offering is part of Three's One Plan. Three has unleashed a spanking new data plan which offers truly unlimited data, meaning users can’t go over any arbitrary allowance or face having to suffer data throttling.
The new offering is part of The One Plan, which until yesterday included 1GB of data alongside, 5,000 texts, 5,000 3-to-3 minutes and 2,000 anytime minutes. The data is now completely unlimited.
“All-you-can-eat data is designed to remove the possibility of bill shock when you use data, so you can use your smartphone to do everything it was designed for without the worry of cost,” said Three’s Marc Allera. He added that by 2015 more people will use mobiles to access the web than PCs.
Previous unlimited data deals were subject to fair usage policies, but this doesn’t suffer from the same problem. Tempted? Tell us now on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
