Apple iPad to dominate tablet market for the next decade Posted: 08 Aug 2011 07:37 AM PDT
The Apple iPad is to fight off competition from Google's Android to dominate the tablet market for the next decade Apple is to continue its run of dominance in the tablet market with the iPad set to remain atop the tablet sales charts for the next decade, new calculations have suggested.
Figures compiled by Charlie Wolf, an analyst at Needham have claimed that Apple’s share of the tablet market will drop by less than 20 per cent up to the year 2020 as the influx of Android tablets fail to make a dent on the Cupertino crafted device.
As well as offering a sleek design and friendly user interface with the iPad Wolf cites Apple’s expansive App Store as a key contributor to its success in the tablet market.
"In the case of tablets, the only thing that matters - that turns what's otherwise a slab into a versatile device - are the apps. The applications available on the tablets introduced this year number at best in the hundreds. In comparison, more than 100,000 applications are available on the iPad."
Can you see any upcoming Android tablets challenging the iPad atop the tablet charts? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

FIFA 13 to support Kinect but offer few other advancements Posted: 08 Aug 2011 07:01 AM PDT
FIFA 13 release date to see Xbox games benefit from Kinect motion gaming compatibility With the FIFA 12 release date still more than a month away EA has confirmed that the following addition to the football franchise FIFA 13 will land boasting support of Microsoft Kinect.
Whilst adding compatibility to Microsoft’s controller-free motion gaming peripheral, EA has announced FIFA 13 will not feature the same level of technological evolution as this year’s upcoming title which will see a completely revamped Player Impact engine.
Rutter added: "Next year, we're not going to reinvent a brand new Player Impact engine, because the reason we've learnt this year is that it's future-proofing our game. It's probably not going to be quite as dramatic as far as technology is concerned, but there'll be a large number of changes based around gameplay nuance on the back of that.
FIFA 12 is set to launch in the UK on September 30th, three days after it touches down in the US but two weeks ahead of fierce rival PES 2012 comes to the UK.
Which of this year’s football titles will get your vote and spare cash? Let us know and share your thoughts on FIFA adding Kinect compatibility via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

New Apple iMac 21.5-inch on way? Posted: 08 Aug 2011 04:12 AM PDT
Apple's iMac will get a new 'affordable' addition to the range Apple's iMac range will be getting a new addition to its ranks in the form of a new 21.5-inch 'budget' option which will be aimed at those in education or volume customers.
It's not yet know whether it'll keep the same glossy LED screen that's adorned on the current range, but it is known that it'll use the processor from the old range, it'll also only have 2GB RAM and 250GB of storage. This is obviously a big drop from the specs of the new iMac 2011 range which offers a lightning-fast 2.5GHz quad-core on the base 21.5-inch model.
With this drastic drop in specs however, the hope is that the cost will fall well within the range of affordable for students who are hoping to join the Mac family ahead of starting university. No official word on a release date, or indeed whether these specs will stick, but 9to5Mac seem pretty confident it'll be heading our way August 16.
What do you think, will a 'budget' iMac be something you'd consider? Let us know what you think on Facebook and Twitter.

Star Trek game trailer and info Posted: 08 Aug 2011 03:42 AM PDT
Star Trek and game are not words that will infuse everyone with excitement, but this time, we think it should Star Trek the game may not be hitting shelves until well into next year, but gaming website CVG has managed to get its hands on a demo and a bucket-load of information on the upcoming title.
The title will be using the Star Trek universe created in the latest film which see's a young Spock and Kirk up against foes as they start their careers in Starfleet on the U.S.S. Enterprise. A third-person title, the game revolves around the two friends taking on levels in co-op style, with both having skills which can compliment the others.
It's an interesting concept and a fresh style which hasn't been seen yet in the Star Trek franchise, and it's something which CVG believes will sway many non-trekkie gamers into buying the title which will be available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Combine that with some incredibly sweet visuals and a fluid gameplay style which looks so much more polished than simply a movie tie-in and you've got what could be Star Trek's first super successful gaming title in years.
Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think, whether you're a trekkie or not, on Facebook and Twitter.

Apple details MobileMe to iCloud transfer Posted: 08 Aug 2011 03:02 AM PDT
Automatic transfer to 20GB iCloud offering, before MobileMe shuts down next summer. MobileMe users concerned about what will happen when Apple begins to make the transition to iCloud, look this way. Cupertino has confirmed that it will automatically transfer MobileMe users onto iCloud’s 20GB package without being charged straight away.
The 20GB offering, not including the 5GB of gratis storage Apple is set to hand over with every iCloud account, costs £14 in the UK. MobileMe users who get moved over won’t get a bill until 30 June 2012, when MobileMe officially shuts its virtual doors.
That deal is certainly decent, especially as users can choose to drop back to free iCloud usage and still keep their @me email addresses.
Have you got MobileMe? How does this package seem to you? Tell us what you think of Apple’s plans now on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 video released Posted: 08 Aug 2011 02:53 AM PDT
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 has been relatively shy in making public appearances, until now that is Samsung's Galaxy Tab 8.9 has made an appearance at a blogging conference in the US sporting all the trimmings of it's larger sibling the newly updated and released Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
The tablet appeared in the video showing off the trademark design which has already been used in the 10.1 and featuring the same 2MP front-facing camera and 3MP snapper on the back. The tablet will also feature all the same components inside, but instead offering it in a slightly more portable package.
Both of the tablets have Samsung's elegantly simple TouchWiz laid over Honeycomb and as can be seen in the video, it works just as well on the 8.9's slightly smaller screen, looking as bright and accessible as its partner in crime. There's no official word yet on release, but with it looking as complete as it can be, we can't imagine it'll be a long wait.
Check out the video below and let us know what you think on Facebook and Twitter.

Zumba Fitness tops UK Games Charts for 8th straight week Posted: 08 Aug 2011 02:33 AM PDT

HP TouchPad price cut: early adopters get App Catalog credit Posted: 08 Aug 2011 02:16 AM PDT
Move comes as early adopters complain about huge price cut just weeks after launch. HP has reacted to anger from early adopters about the recent decision to slash the cost of its new TouchPad by offering $50 App Catalog credit to those who bought one between 1 July and 4 August.
The move comes after HP shaved $100 off of the price of the tablet in the US over the weekend. The 32GB model is now £425 at Amazon UK, down from £479. HP says users have until 31 December to claim the App Catalog credit.
HP’s decision to slash the price so drastically, so soon, has been seen by many as an admission that the poorly received webOS slate was never ready to go toe-to-toe with the iPad and myriad Android Honeycomb tablets.
Have you already bought a HP TouchPad? Is handing over free credit worthwhile? Tell us what you think over on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Google+ could pass Twitter in a year says YouGov Posted: 08 Aug 2011 01:00 AM PDT
LinkedIn also set to be overhauled by Big G's new social tool. Google+ will pass Twitter and LinkedIn within a year to become the second most popular social network in the United States, behind Facebook. That’s according to research carried out by the pollsters at YouGov for Bloomberg.
The research suggests 22 per cent of US adults who use the web will have a Google+ account in 12 months time. Facebook is set to have 69 per cent, while 20 per cent will use Twitter and LinkedIn.
This naturally takes into account users tapping up different social networks at the same time. However, the research, which was carried out last week using a sample of 1,003 people, will be great news for Google, which last week celebrated its 25 millionth Google+ user.
Are you using Google+? Have you started using it as your primary social network? Tell us now over on our Facebook and Twitter pages. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
HTC Puccini: official pics leaked Posted: 07 Aug 2011 11:46 PM PDT
HTC Scribe looks all set to work with forthcoming 10.1-inch slate. The HTC Puccini has hardly been kept under wraps by the Taiwanese mobile maker, even if it hasn’t been officially revealed yet. PocketNow has snagged a string of official screengrabs, showing Android Honeycomb in action, as well as a promo shot of the device.
The snaps don’t give any clues as to whether HTC Sense will be running atop Honeycomb, although previous reports have suggested that HTC is keen on bringing the custom skin to the Puccini. However, the 1280 x 800, 10.1-inch screen means the keyboard has a numeric pad, as well as a standard keyboard, along with beefed up tabbed browsing.
Word is there’ll be an 8 megapixel camera slapped round the back, with a front-facing camera for video calls. On top of that, the shots also show a pen icon in the dock, which points to HTC Scribe playing nice with the Puccini.
The Puccini should make its debut very soon, especially with Apple said to be prepping the iPad 2 Plus for release next month. iPhone app news: Glmps app captures pre-photo magic Posted: 07 Aug 2011 11:30 PM PDT
Captures those real life moments before you press the capture button. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, well according to the developers of a new iPhone camera app, you could write an encyclopedia on the few seconds that occur before the shutter capturers the moment in time.
The Glmps app for iPhone aims to capture the magic of those few seconds that occur before the photograph is actually taken. You know, everyone getting into position, shuffling around, hiding their double chins and perfecting their slimes.
The Glmps app, which is pronounced glimpse, captures the "serendipity" of these moments by starting to record video as soon as you activate the camera app on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.
The video is then presented alongside the image itself and the two are shared as a pair.
The creators say the video preserves some of the candid magic that folks create when they aren't necessarily performing for the camera, and was designed to capture real life in the way the photos almost like the Daily Prophet newspaper in the Harry Potter series.
The results can be shared on Twitter, Facebook, the Glmps website itself, embedded in web pages and also as check-in pictures on sites like Foursquare. The Glmps creations were designed to be deliberately low-res to make them easier to share.
The app is a lovely idea and is now free to download from the App Store. It's still in the early stages of its life span so expect it to evolved and get better over time.

iOS 5 Speech Recognition skills spied Posted: 07 Aug 2011 11:28 PM PDT
Speech-to-text and advanced recommendations based on search results planned. Details of Apple’s speech recognition ‘Assistant’ feature slipped out into the wild just a few weeks ago. But now screenshots of the unannounced function have been spied, following the release of iOS 5 beta 5 over the weekend.
As you can see, it’s simply a case of tapping the microphone button next to the space bar in order to deliver speech-to-text messages. However, the so-called ‘Assistant’ is said to offer far more than just a novel way to input missives without typing.
Word is Apple is planning on integrating the feature across iOS, using location data and contact information to tell you about the best places to go and who to hang out with, all based on your demands.
Expect more to be revealed as devs begin to play with the latest beat of iOS. For more as we get it, keep it locked right here and to our Facebook and Twitter pages.
