Panasonic DY-PS10 Pocket Server unveiled Posted: 09 Aug 2011 09:00 AM PDT
Panasonic's DY-PS10 Pocket Server is an novel way of highlighting that your iPhone doesn't have enough memory The Panasonic DY-PS10 is a Wireless Pocket Server which, through the use of SD cards, allows you to wirelessly stream music from the device to your iPhone or iPod Touch.
The idea behind it is to allow those whose phone memory just isn't up to scratch allowing them to fill their iPhone's with more important things like photos and games, leaving the DY-PS10 to handle the music side of things. Memory is expandable and so gives you the option of how much you want to fork out for an SD card, and the battery on board will give you a pretty impressive 10-hours of playback. Of course whether your handset will be able to actually match 10-hours is of course another matter.
Its come out in Japan and will cost around £117, it can also happily chew on your MP3's, H.264 files and JPEG's allowing you to fill your pockets with as much media as you can carry.

Virgin Media is also providing free Wi-Fi hotspots across the site in order to help folks stay connected over the weekend festivities which take place in Hyland Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Stafford on 20th and 21st August.
Festival goers, who'll be entertained by the likes of Eminem and the Arctic Monkeys over the weekend, can download the application from the various app stores now.

Nintendo 3DS users get free Wi-Fi access from The Cloud Posted: 09 Aug 2011 04:27 AM PDT
Nintendo 3GS games console to get free access to 5,000 Wi-Fi access points in the UK Nintendo has announced it is to offer Nintendo 3DS owners free access to 5,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the UK having penned a deal with The Cloud.
With Wi-Fi access points across a number of the UK’s leading retail and food outlets, partnering with The Cloud will see 3DS touting gamers able to make use of the console’s SpotPass features in an array of locations across the country.
“Nintendo 3DS continues to evolve and add new features all the time,” said Dawn Paine, Marketing Director at Nintendo UK. “The Cloud partnership represents another exciting step that will continue to expand its appeal and encourage owners to take their Nintendo 3DS systems with them wherever they go, offering different and unique experiences everyday.”
Sales figures released last month showed that Nintendo 3DS sales were drastically down on expectations with just 710,000 of the glasses-free 3D games consoles sold worldwide in the three months leading to the end of June. In the wake of these poor sales Nintendo has revealed it is to slash the 3DS's price cutting a third of the device's RRP.

Google beats Facebook to the punch with iPad app. The Google+ iOS app, until now the domain of iPhone owners, has been updated to work on both the iPod touch and iPad. It means Google has beaten key rival Facebook to the punch, with the latter’s iPad add-on still not official, despite being leaked.
As well as iPad and iPod touch support, there’s improved stability, updated Huddle Settings, and aggregated circle add notifications. It all means the Google+ iOS app is fully up to speed no matter what Apple portable device you’re packing.
It comes just a day after research suggested Google+ would pass Twitter in popularity in the US within a year. Only Facebook will be bigger, but you can bet Google will be gunning for Zuckerberg and co.

Amazon tablet price to see loss made on each device Posted: 09 Aug 2011 02:41 AM PDT
Amazon tablet release date to see retailer launch loss leader in order to secure market share and push digital sales Ahead of the expected October Amazon tablet release date latest reports have suggested the online retailer is to take a loss on each tablet sold in order to secure high sales.
A report from PC Mag has claimed that Amazon is to sell its repeatedly rumoured Android tablet as a loss maker with profits to be recouped through sales of apps, eBooks and music from the company’s respective digital stores.
"If Amazon provides a product that is sold under cost with the goal of making up the rest of the cost and profit from apps, services, and even advertising, it could give all of the other Android vendors a serious run for their money," the PC Mag report read.
Will we see an Amazon tablet this side of the festive period? Will it be able to compete with the Apple iPad 2? Let us know what you think via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Skype for Mac update rolled out Posted: 09 Aug 2011 02:25 AM PDT
New update comes hot on heels of Skype for iPad. Skype has just come over all official with its latest update for Mac OS X. Skype 5.3 for Mac comes just a week after Skype for iPad went official and follows the Skype 5.2 upgrade, which was only released last month.
Skype 5.3 is all about OS X Lion support, meaning full screen skills when making video calls. On top of that, you can now make HD video calls using your Macs FaceTime camera, although Skype warns you’ll need at least 1.5MBps broadband to make this work.
There are a string of bug fixes too, which should mean that using Skype on your Mac is even more of a doddle.
Got the update? Tell us what you think of the latest version of Skype for Mac now, over on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

iTunes Replay movie service talk premature Posted: 09 Aug 2011 01:10 AM PDT
Sources say Apple still hasn't signed deals with number of studios. iTunes Replay, Apple’s purported cloud-based movie streaming service, will not be launching imminently, despite reports last week that Cupertino was close to officially unveiling the service.
‘Multiple film industry sources’ have told Cnet that Apple is still waiting to ink deals with four more studios. Negotiations will apparently ‘drag on’ as both sides look to iron out the finer details of the streaming service.
iTunes Replay will allow movie fans to stream flicks, before downloading and syncing them across their Macs and iOS kit. Such a service would be a hit, just don’t expect to see it go live this side of Christmas.

BlackBerry Colt: PlayBook OS-packing phone teased Posted: 08 Aug 2011 11:45 PM PDT
Device set to be compromised in order to meet release schedule. The first phone packing BlackBerry’s QNX operating system, currently only found in the PlayBook tablet, will be released in the first quarter of 2012. That’s according to BGR, which has snagged exclusive details about the top-end phone.
The QNX BlackBerry looks set to cone with a single-core processor, with RIM said to be keen not to hamper the device’s battery life. This will come as a blow to BlackBerry fans, as rival mobile makers look to move beyond dual-core and go to quad-core in 2012. The Colt therefore could be seriously sluggish compared to its rivals.
On top of that, email for companies and businesses may not be up to the usual breezy standards associated with BlackBerry. Problems with getting native email to work on QNX, an issue PlayBook users will be all to aware of, means businesses may need to use Microsoft ActiveSync to get Microsoft Exchange email working on the Colt.
The 2012 release date is well over a year after RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis said a QNX phone would land when dual-core processors were readily available. It all feels as if RIM is going to struggle to match a clutch of killer new rivals with the Colt. Hopefully more gossip in the future will clear up such concerns. Spotify user numbers surge in US Posted: 08 Aug 2011 11:29 PM PDT
Leaked numbers show Spotify is more than holding its own Stateside. Less than a month after its US launch, it seems Spotify is enjoying the same success across the pond as it is here in Europe. The music streaming service now has an impressive 1.4 million users of its free service, with a further 175,000 paying for ad-free tunes.
The numbers, leaked to All Things D, make for seriously impressive reading. It’s only a week since reports emerged that Spotify was closing in on one million users. It comes as US rival Rhapsody has 800,000 members and other key Stateside competitor Rdio plans to up its monthly fees.
At the moment, Spotify has 1.6 million paying members in Europe, some way ahead of its US operation. But it appears that despite some serious competition, and the forthcoming arrival of iTunes Match and iCloud, its decision to launch in the US was a smart one.
