News@8pm: iPad 2 confirms SD slot and Black Ops DLC Posted: 18 Jan 2011 12:00 PM PST Welcome to your nightly round-up of the day's news and goings on courtesy of T3.com. A leaked picture of a protective iPad 2 casehas all but confirmed what was suspected. It appears as though an SD card slot as well as a rear facing camera will be integrated into Apple’s update to its revolutionary tablet. Elsewhere on the Apple front, the white iPhone 4 which was initially planned to go on sale alongside the black version of the latest iPhone incarnation release back in July now appears to be readying for release after appearing on the inventory list of Vodafone Germany.

Having been beaten to pole position by FIFA 11 in recent weeks, Call of Duty: Black Ops has regained top spot in the UK gaming charts after relegating the football sim to second place. Following its chart topping push, the first CoD downloadable content pack (DCL) has been announced and will be available from February 1st on Xbox with PC and PS3 users having to wait a month extra.
The police have become the latest groupto make the most of the social medium Twitter, that’s the law enforcers not Sting and friends with Community Officers in Tayside near Dundee, Scotland tweeting updates whilst on the beat for the next three months. Social networking colossus Facebook has landed itself in hot water with its users after it was discovered that the private details of users were to be made available to app developers. Facebook has since pulled the plug on its developer blog which was said to be the root of the issue.
Health concerns have been raised over the Nintendo 3DS after an eye expert recommended that children should not use the soon-to-be launched pocket-sized 3DS in fear of causing permanent damage to their eyes. The possibility of a PlayStation phone, however, has kept everyone’s eyes peeled with rumours of sightings of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play spotted in China. Sony themselves are yet to comment on the leaked photos but the phone is expected to run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a 4-inch touchscreen and a 1Ghz processor.

Bubble Ball bumps Angry Birds from App Store top spot Posted: 18 Jan 2011 10:27 AM PST Boy genius conquers the maladjusted winged beasts. Angry Birds has been knocked off its mighty perch at the top of the App Store by little known physics game Bubble Ball, which was designed by a 14-year-old boy.
Bubble Ball, created by young Robert Nay of Utah, USA has been downloaded over two million times on iPhone and Android since its launch on December 29th.
The game is simple enough. It requires players to strategically position metal and wooden blocks so that when the bubble drops into play, it will bounce off the targets and cross the finish line. You can use power-ups to assist you in your quest and reverse gravity to help you complete the level. So far it has proved to be a massive hit, overhauling Angry Birds which has been atop of the free app tree for longer than we care to remember.
Nay designed and did all of the coding for the game himself by researching mobile software programming and learning how to use the Corona Mobile SDK, which gave him the benefit of a built in physics engine. His mum helped him with some level design suggestions and helped him get it on iTunes and now he's top of the charts.
Check out the wee fella in this video interview from Good Morning America, below. Give the game a shot and let us know what you think on Twitter and Facebook.

The Daily iPad newspaper to cost users $0.99 per day? Posted: 18 Jan 2011 08:56 AM PST Apple, News Corp joint venture to feature high daily cost Scheduled to have been unveiled this week before being stuck with further delays, The Daily, the iPad bound newspaper amalgamation between Apple and News Corp, has been priced with users set to fork out $0.99 per day for the digital news release.
The unconfirmed price outed by industry analyst AdAge expects to see users splash a penny shy of $1 (£0.62) everyday for the iPad specific news medium with the publication that will introduce subscription based apps to the iPad set to charge users in the region of $365 (£228) per year for a daily digital delivery.
With the planned unveiling of The Daily set for tomorrow recently cancelled just days before it was revealed Apple CEO Steve Jobs is to take a medically-induced leave of absence, it is now expected the tablet bound news publication will be officially launched alongside the iPad 2 in the coming weeks.

Facebook backtracks on controversial data issues Posted: 18 Jan 2011 08:27 AM PST Social network site postpones data sharing plans Facebook has backtracked on a number of controversial data issues, announcing just days after the plans were unveiled that it will no longer make user’s addresses and mobile contact information available to developers.
Having revealed at the weekend that it intended to increase the amount of data developers could access from user’s profiles, a backlash from angered users has forced the social network to reconsider the move announcing the additional features have been “temporarily disabled”.
Speaking on the public outcry Facebook’s Douglas Purdy said in an official blog post: "Over the weekend, we got some useful feedback that we could make people more clearly aware of when they are granting access to this data."
He added: "We agree, and we are making changes to help ensure you only share this information when you intend to do so. We'll be working to launch these updates as soon as possible, and will be temporarily disabling this feature until those changes are ready."

Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC announced with maps video Posted: 18 Jan 2011 04:28 AM PST Five levels added to record breaking Black Ops The first downloadable content pack (DCL) for the biggest entertainment release of 2010, Call of Duty: Black Ops has been announced with the new environment providing add-on set to launch February 1st.
Due to land exclusively on the Xbox 360 on the opening day of February the first CoD: Black Ops DLC, dubbed First Strike, is expected to be made available for PS3 and PC gamers the following month much to the annoyance of PlayStation touting Black Ops adopters who have repeatedly criticised the release’s Microsoft console bias.
Call of Duty: Black Ops originally launched back in November quickly eclipsing all previous gaming releases of 2010 and surpassing its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in terms of units sold and money generated.
Where would you like to see future CoD: Black Ops maps set? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

White iPhone 4 launch edging nearer on the horizon? Posted: 18 Jan 2011 03:58 AM PST Will the white iPhone 4 make it out before the iPhone 5? The much delayed white iPhone 4 could soon be with us after the lightly-hued handset appeared on a Vodafone Germany inventory system.
As you can see from the picture here, the name iPhone 4 weiß (white) appears with both 16GB and 32GB models mentioned.
Originally set to launch alongside the standard iPhone 4 black model back in July last year, the official Apple word has been that the white device is“more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected".
Steve Jobs had promised a pre-Christmas 2010 arrival, but that did not materialise. Since then it was expected to launch in Spring of this year, and we've had to make do with Stephen Fry teasing us with a white iPhone 4, at last year's T3 Gadget Awards.
Previous reports have suggested that the Cupertino company and its manufacturers were having trouble matching the white of the homescreen button for the entire handset shell. The units were also believed to be overheating, discolouring the rear case. But many believe the problem could lie with the onboard 5-megapixel camera which is rumoured to be suffering from degraded images.
While this is by no means concrete evidence of when the white iPhone 4 will be available, we would like to think that it makes it out before Apple unleashes the iPhone 5.

Nintendo 3DS can permanently damage children's eyesight Posted: 18 Jan 2011 03:29 AM PST 3DS health concerns grow following eye expert opinion Following an official Nintendo announcement last month recommending children under the age of six not use the soon to launch pocket-friendly 3DS, a British sight specialist has announced use of the glasses-free 3D games console could irreversibly damage children’s peepers.
With Nintendo’s health warning urging parents to be aware of the potential sight damaging affects of the portable 3D console, Richard Pakey, British eye expert and optician from The Eyewear Centre has announced: "One possible explanation for the safety advice issued by Nintendo could be something to do with children's 'critical eyesight period’.”
Whilst some children might not be able to enjoy the 3DS’s specs-less 3D party piece due to "reduced binocular vision, rendering the 3D effect useless,” Parkey was keen to express the potential dangers of 3D beyond the single-digit age bracket.
"There is a grey area surrounding the potential eye health issues caused by 3D, this is concerning ALL age groups, not just under 6 year olds," the eye specialist declared. "Our own Professional body - the General Optical Council (GOC) cannot issue clinical guidance for 3D eyewear until the release of 'prescription' 3D eyewear which is due later this year.
Pegged for a global release in March following a February 26th Japan launch, full 3DS UK release dates and pricing information is expected to be announced at the device’s official European unveiling in Amsterdam tomorrow.
Stay tuned to T3.com and the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds for all the latest live from the European 3DS unveiling.

Aswe reported yesterday, ‘trusted’ sources close to the matter have claimed that the iPad 2 will host an in-built SD card slot when it finally hits stores in April with the latest unearthed case seemingly confirming this connectivity and file transferring addition.

Whilst it is unknown whether this rubberised case is based on released iPad 2 dimension specifications or simply one manufacturer’s best estimation of the mooted device, continued leaks and information from industry insiders has all but confirmed the inclusion of an SD card slot.
