Meanwhile, Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop has had to fend off more questions of a takeover, labelling reports that Samsung are preparing a bid for the Finnish company ‘baseless’
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rejoice! Today marks the official Duke Nukem Forever release date, following a 15 year wait, and has left critics under awed, and questioning whether the title really was worth it after all that time. Carphone Warehouse has secured an exclusive deal with BlackBerry to release the PlayBook a day ahead of competitors, with the 7” tablet now being made available in the store on June 15th.
Samsung have mocked the inability of Apple’s iPad 2 to play Flash content in an advert for its Galaxy 10.1 tablet that’s currently making its way around Youtube. A leaked picture has revealed that Google may be planning to release a touch version of its Chrome browser for tablets, despite the company denying they had any immediate plans for that idea. Finally, UK iPhone and iPad users will have to wait until 2012 before they can take advantage of Apple’s iTunes match service, as the company is still chasing deals with music license holders.

iPhone 5 release to see panoramic photo capabilities Posted: 10 Jun 2011 09:14 AM PDT
Next-gen Apple handset to sport panoramic photo mode and 8-megapixel snapper? Apple’s much anticipated iPhone 5 is to land sporting panoramic photo capabilities, a section of code discovered in the recently unveiled iOS 5 has revealed.
With iOS 5 officially unveiled earlier this week by Apple CEO Steve Jobs ahead of a formal release this autumn, a release that is expected to coincided with the repeatedly rumoured September arrival of the iPhone 5, the outed software update has revealed a number of features that will touch down alongside on the next-gen smartphone.
Although the code does not reveal exactly how the panoramic shots feature will work it is believed the additional function will operate in a manner similar to on those smartphones that already offer the service with users panning their handset across a landscape before the device stitches the resulting stills together into a single continuous image.
Will Apple’s eagerly awaited iPhone 5 top the smartphone charts or will its specs fall a few months behind the likes of the Android touting Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Sensation? Let us know what you think via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 delayed due to screen issue Posted: 10 Jun 2011 08:32 AM PDT
Samsung faces component shortages for its Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet, according to a report Samsung’s mid-sized Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet is facing delays due to limited availability of screen components, new reports suggest.
Officially unveiled earlier this year alongside the second and slimmer rendition of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is set to land featuring, as its name suggests, an 8.9-inch display that uses G1F architecture to minimise thickness whilst maximising screen brightness.
With Samsung targeting annual tablet sales in excess of 10 million units, the delay to the Galaxy Tab 8.9 could well see the tech manufacturer forced to replace the streamlined G1F displays with GFF offerings which run 30-40 per cent thicker and significantly dimmer that their ultra thin siblings.
Whilst those looking to snap up the 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab are forced to wait, fans of the 10.1-inch model, a device that was refreshed to sport a slimmer form factor following the unveiling of the iPad 2, were today treated to another teaser with Samsung launching a Galaxy Tab 10.1 video advert in which it mocks Apple’s market leading tablet.

iPhone 5 8-megapixel camera confirmed by iOS 5? Posted: 10 Jun 2011 07:44 AM PDT
Apple's iOS 5 software suggests the iPhone 5 is to sport Full HD 1080p video recording credentials Apple’s iOS 5 mobile operating system is to allow Full HD 1080p video to be exported, seemingly confirming that the iPhone 5 will feature an upgraded camera.
Whilst the iPhone 4 currently touts a 5-megapixel rear mounted camera capable of shooting HD video at 720p, it has been repeatedly rumoured in recent weeks that the iPhone 5 will come equipped with an 8-megapixel snapper, rumours that appear to have been confirmed by the last iOS 5 finding.
If the iPhone 5 lands with 1080p video recording credentials, it will not be the first mobile handset to do so. Samsung’s market leading and hugely popular Samsung Galaxy S II currently sports an 8-meg snapper with the ability to record Full HD content as well as boasting a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.
What features would you like to see land on Apple’s much awaited iPhone 5? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Duke Nukem Forever released following 15 year wait Posted: 10 Jun 2011 07:03 AM PDT
Highly anticipated Duke Nukem Forever game finally lands but the critics aren't impressed Duke Nukem Forever is available to buy in the UK today after more than 14 years of waiting, and a development process that was repeatedly halted.
The follow-up to the 1996 gaming cult classic Duke Nukem 3D, Duke Nukem Forever will see gamers tasked with controlling the catchphrase splurging Duke in a fight against a hoard of grotesque aliens who have invaded the planet with the intent of stealing all of the attractive women.
Not done with insulting the Duke, the Guardian review went on to add: "Visuals are grainy (perhaps a deliberate throwback to older Nukem titles?), aiming is clunky and there are occasional frame rate issues and buggy moments."
Filled with catchy one-liners, gruesome attacks and a bevy of scantily clad women, Duke Nukem forever is available for Microsoft’s Xbox 360, the Sony PlayStation 3 and on PC.
Was Duke Nukem Forever worth the wait or a bitter disappointment, baby? Let us know what you think via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

O2 confirms continued network disruptions in London and Kent Posted: 10 Jun 2011 06:31 AM PDT
O2 signal disruption issues continue, leaving customers in London and Kent unable to make calls and send text messages Mobile network provider O2 has revealed that it is once again suffering issues with its network availability in parts of East London and Essex, an area that was hit with service disruptions earlier in the year.
With network problems reigniting again this morning causing O2 users to suffer issues with making calls and sending text messages, an alert on O2’s Live Status Checker web page declared: “We've got a problem that means you can't make calls, use the internet, or send/get emails the east London/Essex area.”
"At 10 o’clock this morning we identified a connectivity issue on our network which is affecting both 2G and 3G service in parts of East London, North London, Kent and East Sussex. Customers in these areas may be experiencing difficulty in making or receiving mobile calls, texts or using data,” declared an official release from O2.
“Our engineers are working to identify the problem and resolve it as soon as possible. We apologise to those customers affected and will be updating progress regularly."
Although today’s outage was short-lived albeit during a busy commuter period, the continued issues to the East London and Essex will be of concern to users of O2’s service.
It’s the second time in recent weeks that O2 has experienced disruptions of this magnitude. In mid-May, thieves broke into the service provider’s East London site, causing its systems to go down. And Vodafone's network experienced similar problems when its Basingstoke site was broken into in February.
Have you suffered issues with your O2 connectivity today? If so share your story with us via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

iPhone app news: Apple seeks UK iTunes Match deals Posted: 10 Jun 2011 05:40 AM PDT
Talks still at a very early stage with both UK publishers and record labels. UK iPhone and iPad users will have to wait until 2012 in order to take advantage of Apple's new iTunes Match streaming service as the company chases deals with user music licencers.
The service, which will Match the songs a user has in its iTunes library and make them available to listen to using Apple's new iCloud platform and will also upgrade low bitrate songs to 256kbps.
Apple scrambled to make deals with the four major music publishers - EMI, Sony, Universal and Warner - before announcing the service on Monday at WWDC. It's scheduled to launch with iOS 5 this autumn.
However, when iOS 5 arrives in the UK, it's likely to be missing this one massive iCloud component. Speaking to the Telegraph, the Performing Rights Society (PRS), which controls publishing rights in the UK, claims that talks with Apple have only just begun.
The spokesperson said: “The licensing team at the PRS have started talks with Apple, but are a long way off from any deals being signed…It is very much the early stages of the negotiations and is similar to the launch of iTunes – which began in the US and took a while to roll out to other countries,”
The Telegraph also spoke with an unnamed executive from a major UK record label who added that “Tentative talks have begun between the major labels and Apple in the UK. However, all talks are at the really early stages and no one expects to see the cloud music service live on this side of the pond until 2012.”
UK users can still make use of the iTunes in the Cloud service which allows iOS users to download any of their purchased music to any supplementary devices free of charge.
As for the iTunes Match launch, Apple remains as cryptic as ever, with a message on its website revealing: “Coming This Autumn – Starting in the US.”

iOS 5 Twitter integration discussed by Twitter head Posted: 10 Jun 2011 04:24 AM PDT
Twitter's Ryan Sarver speaks out on iOS 5 inclusion Twitter’s head of platform Ryan Sarver has spoken out on Apple opening its usually closed doors to include Twitter integration within its upcoming update to the iPhone and iPad operating system iOS 5.
Speaking with gadget blog TechCrunch Sarver expressed that partnering with Apple for improved Twitter access in iOS 5 “is a great opportunity” for the micro blogging site as it looks to close the gap on Facebook as the world’s leading social networking outlet.
With Twitter users set to able to sign in to the service from their iOS devices without needing to download a secondary application, Sarver believes that the social service can become a leading addition to most other applications, enhancing user’s experiences with the services.
"The main point in my mind is that if you're making an app for iOS and you're not thinking about Twitter, you're really missing an opportunity,” said the Twitter head. "I think this integration has the potential to be the second biggest referral for app growth behind the App Store.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 video mocks Apple's iPad 2 Posted: 10 Jun 2011 03:44 AM PDT
Samsung mocks the Apple iPad 2's inability to play Flash content in a funny new advert, currently making the rounds on YouTube Samsung has released a new advertising video for its reshaped Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, which mocks the Apple iPad 2's inability to play Flash content.
Picking a fight with its market-dominating competitor, Samsung’s latest video for the Galaxy Tab 10.1, available below, shows the slim-line tablet touting all of its impressive credentials, with its Flash integration used to mock a user of Apple’s second-generation tablet.
Earlier this week, Vodafone announced it had relinquished its exclusive UK rights to the original Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in favour of offering the newly slimmed down model alongside its competitors.
Apple may be a victim in this case, but it's by no means an innocent angel. In 2007, the consumer electronics giant famously released a set of videos starring comedy duo David Mitchell and Robert Webb, urging potential customers to choose Macs over PCs. Well, we all know what they say about Karma...
Can Samsung’s refreshed Galaxy Tab 10.1 truly challenge Apple’s iPad 2 in the tablet wars? Let us know what you think via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Nokia has recently partnered with Microsoft to become a lead supplier of Window Phone 7 powered handsets, a deal that will see the former leader of the mobile market ship its first Phone 7 devices later this year alongside the Mango update to the revolutionary mobile operating system.
Will the Windows Phone 7 deal change Nokia’s fortunes or will the company soon be searching for a buyer? Let us know what you think via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.
