Xbox Kinect used to film music video

Posted: 06 Feb 2011 04:55 AM PST

London psychadelic pop band put Kinect to distinctly groovy use.

While some of the games might be a bit too bounce-a-ball-skip-a-rope for gaming's hardcore, since its release there's been no shortage of innovative Xbox Kinect hacks that manipulate the sensor into performing tricks Steve Ballmer never even dreamed of. So far we've seen gesture controlled web pages, real-life air guitar solos, and some more... ahem... adult-oriented innovations, among others.

And now this latest offering: using some custom software and the Kinect sensor as the video camera, London-based ambient pop band Echo Lake shot the whole video for their song "Young Silence" in weird, psychadelic Kinect-o-vision.

The song is perhaps a bit of an acquired taste, but it's still a neat bit of Kinect magic to add to the growing list of things people are doing other than jumping rapids in their Game Boat. Check out the video embedded below to see the result.

Apple iPad 2 to come with stylus support?

Posted: 06 Feb 2011 04:00 AM PST

Handwritten notes and digital painting coming to iPad 2 if patent is to be believed.

According to another unearthed patent uncovered by PatentlyApple, Apple's iPad 2 could come with stylus support for handwritten messages, gaming and digital painting.

The stylus itself isn't just a crude plastic wand, either. Apple's design for its digital scribbler includes a conductive head, to allow it to write on the iPad's capacitive touchscreen, which usually requires human touch to operate.

Sylus support would push the iPad into the graphic tablet territory held down until now by producers like Wacom and its Bamboo tablets. Is no industry safe from the iPad's onslaught? If rumours about the iPad 2's official announcement coming next week are to be believed, we'll find out soon enough.

LG Optimus 3D, Star Tab, HTC Flyer and Pyramid leak

Posted: 06 Feb 2011 03:03 AM PST

HTC and LG devices on track for MWC 2011.

Following on from the sighting of the HTC Desire 2 on a German Vodafone inventory list, more photos have surfaced online showing off a number of other big-name releases presumably set to rock up at MWC.

Alongside the follow up to the HTC Desire, we can now expect appearances from the LG Optimus 3D (with its 3D display and twin video cameras), the dual-core HTC Pyramid, the HTC Flyer (HTC's first stab at a tablet) and the LG Star tablet. While it's not clear where these new images have come from, FoneArena claim that they "received these from a trusted source".

Each of these - bar the mysterious LG Star Tab - has been leaked in its own right before, but seeing them all together on a carrier's inventory list is the strongest confirmation we could hope for that the devices are geared up for MWC appearances.
