DiRT 3 receives VIP online pass

Posted: 22 May 2011 05:00 AM PDT

More features and unlocked cars.

DiRT 3, Codemaster's upcoming game, will have an online pass that allows users to play with Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

The code also allows users to unlock five new vehicles.

This pass is named the VIP Pass, and will be available in all new retail copies of DiRT 3. This is being done with an aim to reduce second-hand sales of the game, as used games will not have the pass, and will have to pay extra to use these features.

Among the five vehicles that the code will unlock include the McRae M4, Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 and Hummer H3.

Do you think this move will help reduce second-hand sales of the game? Let us know at T3's Twitter and Facebook feeds and stay tuned in for more tech and gaming news.

They have announced their partnership to create Quick Tap, which is a near field communications (NFC) technology that allows people to pay through their smartphones.

The NFC service, which is the first of its kind in the UK, will initially be available on smartphones on Orange, such as the Samsung Tocco Lite.

Users' smartphones will become mobile wallets, with the service allowing for purchases up to £15 to be paid for.

Users with a Barclaycard, debit card or Orange credit card can transfer up to £100 on to their Quick Tap account.

Orange has said the technology will eventually come to a wider range of smartphones.

Posted: 20 May 2011 07:25 AM PDT

Every Saturday we round-up the week in mobile applications bringing you news of the biggest new releases across all major platforms and a host of reviews from T3's App Chart. Let's crack on...

APP NEWS:

Android and iOS app news: Napster launches Spotify rival
Apple's iCloud is on the way, and Spotify currently reigns supreme, but that hasn't stopped old-school favourite Napster taking a shot at the burgeoning music streaming market. Napster Unlimited plus Mobile for Android and iOS will cost £10 a month for access to 15 million tracks.

Android app news: Plants vs Zombies incoming...
Despite their protestations, it's not rare for Android owners to suffer from iPhone envy. The selection and quality of apps is just better. But week by week Android catches up and the launch of iPhone classic Plants vs Zombies helps to further even the playing field. It's coming on May 30th.

iPad app news: The Dark Horse of the field comes to iPad
Comic publishers Marvel and DC have already brought the world's most famous superheroes to the iPad, but what about some of the lesser-known, adult-themed characters? Well the Dark Horse comics app for iPad has come to the rescue, bringing Hellboy, Buffy and Terminator comings to Apple's tablet.

Nokia app news: Ovi is no more
Is Nokia flogging a dead horse? The Ovi Store is no more after Nokia decided to go with Nokia apps as the moinker for it's apps portal. Nokia reckons that synchronising its brand identity will help fix the issues, but the problem isn't the name of the store but more the fact that app developers don't want to touch Symbian with a 40-ft pole.

APP REVIEWS FROM THE T3 APP CHART:

iPhone app review: Infinity Blade
Infinity Blade got a major update this week, which brought an online multiplayer mode to the classic iPhone adventure game. In light of that we thought it was about time we got a review of this action RPG titan up on the App Chart. If you haven't downloaded it yet, here's why you need to.

Android app review: LEGO Instructions
Ever wanted to create the Millennium Falcon from the thousands of assorted LEGO pieces you or your children have amassed down the years? Well now's your change. LEGO Instructions for Android does exactly what it says on the tin and allows you to create trucks and planes and...erm chickens providing you have the right bricks.

Nokia app review: Facebook
We mentioned above that Nokia has ditched the Ovi Store name in a bid to make its app brand less confusing. Well one thing in its favour is that Nokia now has a cracking Facebook app to kick-start the new era. All of the functionality you require is there and it looks pretty too.
