PlayStation Vita to be final name for Sony NGP? Posted: 31 May 2011 09:12 AM PDT
More Sony NGP details emerge The Sony NGP (Next Generation Portable) could be renamed PlayStation Vita, with a series of leaked pictures and a developers site pointing to the likely name of the handheld console.
One picture speculated to have come from a Sony pamphlet shows the handheld console adorned with the name PSVita, with the name also displayed at the top of the page.
Adding substance to these rumours is the discovery of a domain name ‘psvita.com’ and what appears to be a development site named ‘vita.scedev.net’. The latter however contains details of every Playstation platform bar the NGP. Gamer blog Ripten have also added weight behind the name, claiming to have information from a ‘trusted source’ that it will be Vita.
If the rumours are proved to be inaccurate, it wouldn’t be the first time. Before Sony released the PlayStation Move controller there was domain evidence found which pointed to the PS3 add-on being called ‘Arc’.
There won’t be a long wait for the truth however, as Sony is due to reveal all at its E3 2011 press conference which takes place next Monday and T3 will be there to give you the very latest on all things NGP-related.

Apple iCloud streaming service confirmed for WWDC Posted: 31 May 2011 06:27 AM PDT
Steve Jobs to out iCloud at WWDC on June 6th Apple has officially confirmed that its repeatedly rumoured cloud-based music streaming service Apple iCloud will be officially unveiled by company CEO Steve Jobs during the WWDC keynote opening on June 6th.
Having announced that “Apple CEO Steve Jobs and a team of Apple executives will kick off the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a keynote address on Monday, June 6,” the Cupertino tech giant went on to add the speech will focus on “its next generation software.”
Whilst the iPhone and iPad maker is remaining tight lipped on further details of the iCloud service until the software lands at the Worldwide Developers Conference, recent speculation and reported leaks have suggested the service will allow to wirelessly access their iTunes accounts remotely with data to be stored on the cloud. Further reported futures of the iCloud system include the up-scaling of damaged tracks to a higher sound quality.
As well as outing its eagerly awaited iCloud service, Apple has confirmed its WWDC keynote showing will see “Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS X [and] iOS 5, the next version of Apple’s advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch,” formally shown off.

Apple iOS 5 confirmed for a June 6 WWDC unveiling Posted: 31 May 2011 05:59 AM PDT
Apple confirm it is to showcase iOS 5 at WWDC on June 6th Apple iOS 5 has been confirmed for a WWDC keynote unveiling on June 6th with Steve Jobs set to officially announce the next update to the iPhone, iPod and iPad operating system.
In an uncharacteristic move Apple has outed its plans for the WWDC keynote speech announcing via an official press release: “Apple CEO Steve Jobs and a team of Apple executives will kick off the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a keynote address on Monday, June 6.”
Despite remaining on a medical leave of absence, Apple’s talismanic front man Steve Jobs is set to appear on stage to show off the iOS software. Whilst no details have been formerly unveiled about new features that will come packaged in the Apple software, recent rumour and speculation has suggested wireless syncing will land with the imminent update.
Whilst Apple has prematurely revealed its software plans for WWDC, hardware remains illusive with no word of the mooted iPhone 5 making an appearance in the Apple release, further hinting at the widely reported delayed September launch.
Will WWDC see a solely software launch from Apple, is the iPhone 5 to remain a myth until a later date? Let us know what you think via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
HTC Mazaa Windows Phone leaked with 12-meg camera Posted: 31 May 2011 04:22 AM PDT
Nokia N8 rival in the offing Leaked pictures of an HTC device currently going by the name HTC Mazaa, appear to show that a hefty 12-megapixel sensor will be in tow.
- HTC Mazaa Windows Phone pictures
Mobile-Review’s Eldar Murtazin came across the HTC handset who managed to get pictures and video (which you can see below) of the Mazaa which is reported to have a 3.7-inch screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset amongst its features.
The evidence suggests that we are also looking at one of the first Windows Phone 7.1 Mango phones, with the cameraphone capable of shooting in RAW format, which should bring it a little closer to some stand alone digital cameras.
The Mazaa appears to share strong similarities with the HTC Trophy, sporting an almost identical looking touchscreen, large ear piece and thin silver trim.
You can check the unofficial video below to see what you make of the Mazaa.

MacBook Air supplies tight as refresh nears Posted: 31 May 2011 03:10 AM PDT
Supply chain struggles as prices for current models slashed. The MacBook Air looks nailed on for an internal update in the next few weeks. Supplies of the size zero laptop are currently running low according to sources speaking with 9to5mac, as Apple looks to clear out old stock.
What's more, both Apple and other retailers are flogging the current machines at knockdown prices. Best Buy in the US is selling the 11.6-inch version of $938, while the Mac refurb store is shifting one for just $829.
The new-look versions are set to come with Intel's Sandy Bridge processors and Thunderbolt tech. Having only been redesigned last year, the look is set to remain the same.

Android app news: Google bans console emulators Posted: 31 May 2011 03:10 AM PDT
Google goes on emulator deleting spree. Google has taken the somewhat surprising step of deleting some of the most popular video game console emulators from the Android Market.
Emulators, which allow users to launch ROM games from consoles of yesteryear like the SNES, Gameboy, Atari and Megadrive, through their Android devices have proved a hit with gaming fans since the launch of Android.
But now Google seems to have taken a stance against emulators, by removing SNesoid, Gameboid and also the family of apps developed by Yong Zhang, without any explanation.
It's a strange decision from Google, because emulators have added some much needed gaming prowess to the Android platform, when it lags a million miles behind iOS in terms of offering a competitive gaming experience.
Owning an emulator is not illegal and doesn't appear to be in violation of the Android T&Cs so perhaps the plans to add games from the PlayStation Store to the Android Market are dictating the policy.
Either way, we're sad to kiss goodbye to Super Mario Bros, Sonic and many other classic retro titles on our Android handsets.

Microsoft tablet OS to debut this week Posted: 31 May 2011 02:10 AM PDT
New look OS set for Computex and All Things D events. Microsoft is set to pull the wrappers off of a tablet-specific version of Windows this week. The Big M is set to show off devices running the new OS at the Computex trade show in Taiwan and the All Things D tech bash in the US.
The news comes from, "...people with knowledge of the company's plans," who have been speaking with Bloomberg. There are no details as yet on what to expect, but just last week Steve Ballmer said there would be a tablet-tailored version of Windows 8. Those comments were later retracted.
Ballmer also claimed that tablets using the new OS could be out as soon as 2012. However, that will leave the Big M with a hell of a lot of ground to make on both Apple and Google, who are already cornering the slate space.

OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 brings Mac Defender fix Posted: 31 May 2011 01:00 AM PDT
Build has been seeded to devs ahead of WWDC. The Mac Defender malware virus which has hit Macs in recent weeks will be fixed by the next update to OS X Snow Leopard, 10.6.8. Apple has just seeded the new build to developers, confirming what was already suspected last week.
In its outline of the improvements the new build brings, Apple says 10.6.8 will, "Identify and remove known variants of Mac Defender." It's not clear if this covers newly found versions which don't require admin passwords in order to be installed.
The update also promises stability fixes, as well as a promise to, "Enhance the Mac App Store to get your Mac ready to uograde to OS X Lion." It is believed that Apple is looking to shun hard copies of the new OS, instead selling it via its online Mac emporium instead.
Expect the release to hit your Mac in the coming days. Details about OS X Lion are expected to be served up at this year's WWDC, which kicks off in San Francisco this weekend.

Samsung demands to see iPad 3 and iPhone 5 Posted: 30 May 2011 11:42 PM PDT
Move comes after Apple given right to see unreleased Samsung Galaxy kit. Samsung has shot back in its increasingly bitter legal battle with Apple, demanding to see both the iPad 3 and iPhone 5 by 13 June. The move comes after Apple's legal team was granted access to Samsung's officially announced, but unreleased Galaxy kit, including the S2 and tab 10.1.
The legal file from the Korean company says it wants to see, "A sample of the final, commercial version of the next generation iPhone that Apple will release, whether that product will be known as the "iPhone 4S", "iPhone 5", or some other name." It has filed a word for word copy relating to the iPad 3 as well.
Sammy says that while neither of the named Apple devices have been officially revealed, it is basing their existence on 'internet reports', saying Apple has previous when it comes to allowing the rumour mill to build up the hype for its devices for them.
Samsung wants to see these new devices as they're the ones it believes will be going up against its products, not the current Apple models. Whether a US judge sees it like that remains to be seen.
Is Samsung right to demand to see Apple's new stuff? Or should both companies quit the squabbling? Let us know what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Asus uses Computex show to unleash next-gen iPad-battler. Asus has used its press conference at the annual Computex show in Taiwan to reveal a new tablet concept, dubbed the Asus PadFone. The tablet/smartphone hybrid allows you to slip your cell into the back of a specially designed slate, transforming it from a regular phone into a full-on Android tab.
The PadFone's smartphone clocks in at 4.3-inches. While final specs are yet to be revealed, Asus has intimated it'll come running Android Ice Cream Sandwich when it lands at the end of this year. The latest version of Google's mobile OS is set to work seamlessly across phones and tablets, so the 10.1-inch slate section will also pack in Ice Cream Sandwich.
Sadly, you can't run the PadFone as a tablet without having the phone docked round the back. That said, this is a concept we're definitely excited to see hit shelves.
What do you think of the Asus PadFone? A smart idea or a gimmicky attempt to steal the iPad's thunder? Let us know what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
