Tablet computer updates are one of the industry's hot topics at the moment with both Apple and Samsung today making news with their top tablets. Whilst Harrods has revealed a £2,699 crystal-encrusted Samsung Galaxy Tab, reports have emerged suggesting Apple has already recorded its video commercials for the iPad 2 in New York further hinting towards the expected January release.
Google's Mobile OS, Android, has been creating headlines today as whilst the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 finally has Android 2.2, éclair bestowed upon it, latest rumours and reports suggest that the next edition of Android could soon be with us as Android 2.3, Gingerbread, is pegged with a November 11th arrival. Busy week on the Google front.
Motion controlled gaming is set to receive its third big player later this week as Microsoft launches its Kinect gaming peripheral in the UK on Wednesday. Despite Microsoft Kinect selling out in the US following its stateside launch last week, you the T3 reader have declared that Sony's PlayStation Move is the best of the motion gaming bunch taking a smidge over 50 per cent of the three way reader poll beating Kinect and the Nintendo Wii. Further troubling Microsoft will be the news that MIT students have already hacked Kinect's camera system sparking security concerns. HTC to launch own Sense UI App Store? Posted: 08 Nov 2010 08:39 AM PST HTC looking for more than just Android skin Rumours are rampant today that smartphone hotshot HTC is planning to launch its own app store to turn the brilliant Sense user interface into a "bone deep" skin on top of Android.
The Sense UI, which has done more than anything to separate HTC's Android stable from the chasing pack, already has a host of market-leading apps like Weather, FriendStream, Favourites and Footprints.
These bespoke widgets, which also includes the impressive People service that links phone contacts with social networking services, could be the start of something bigger with app developers producing apps specifically for the manufacturers.
According to the Financial Times the app store, which would sell both applications and ebooks, would allow HTC to be more self-sufficient rather than rely too heavily on the Android operating system and its Android Market store.
The report claims that HTC is currently hiring for a 100 strong team that would work across the globe on the online store.

Call of Duty: Black Ops hype results in armed robbery Posted: 08 Nov 2010 08:03 AM PST Black Ops hype attracks criminals in the US With the hype and hysteria surrounding this evening’s midnight launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops reaching breaking point, the hotly tipped ‘Game of the Year’ has caused fans in the US to resort to crime as two men reportedly used firearms to rob a game retailer of its CoD: Black Ops copies.
The incident, which took place at a GameStop store in Baltimore, Maryland saw at least two men armed with semi-automatic handguns charge the retailer at closing time on Saturday, forcing two helpless customers into a storage area before taking off with more than 100 copies of the Black Ops game.
Much of the excitement surrounding tonight’s Call of Duty: Black Ops launch comes from the success of its franchise predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which became the fastest selling game ever last November before grossing $1 billion by January.
Stay tuned to T3.com and the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds for all the latest on the Call of Duty: Black Ops launch including a full review of the game and launch night pictures.

Kinect hacked ahead of UK launch following $2,000 wager Posted: 08 Nov 2010 06:37 AM PST Wager sees Kinect hacked ahead of UK launch Just days after Microsoft launched its new controller-free gaming peripheral, Kinect, in the US, the accessory’s camera system has been hacked following a $2,000 wager started by a pair of MIT students.
Limor Fried and Phillip Torrone, both students at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology and co-founders of Adafruit Industries, offered the $2,000 incentive to the first person who could crack the Microsoft technology that they deemed: “shouldn't just be locked up for Xbox 360”.
"Microsoft does not condone the modification of its products. With Kinect, Microsoft built in numerous hardware and software safeguards designed to reduce the chances of product tampering," was the computer giant's official word on the potential privacy breaches.
"Microsoft will continue to make advances in these types of safeguards and work closely with law enforcement and product safety groups to keep Kinect tamper-resistant."
Will you be queuing up tomorrow evening for the nationwide midnight openings for Microsoft’s new Kinect gaming add-on? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Apple iPad 2 video trailers shot ahead of January launch Posted: 08 Nov 2010 03:54 AM PST Apple adverts to tease iPad 2 Further hinting towards a January unveiling of the iPad 2 Apple has reportedly already shot the promotional commercials for the mooted follow-up to its market leading tablet.
Apple insiders 9 to 5 Mac are reporting that “One of the participants” revealed to them that the commercials were shot late last month by illustrious British photographer David Sims at New York’s Pier 59.
Many rumours have already circulated surrounding the iPad 2 pegging the Apple tablet with everything from front and rear facing cameras, a Retina Display, FaceTime video calls and a smaller 7-inch form, the later of which Steve Jobs denied in a scathing attack on the mini-sized tablets.
Reports from the commercial shoot suggest that the current iPad model was used in the filming with the new model to be digitally added in post production. If true this would strongly suggest that Jobs is true to his word and future iPads will follow the current 9.7-inch size and not be tempted into an attack on 7-inch models such as the recently released Samsung Galaxy Tab.
What features would you like to see added to the second generation Apple iPad? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds and stay tuned to T3.com for all the latest on the Apple iPad 2 and its video trailers.

Google Nexus Two delay down to hardware issues Posted: 08 Nov 2010 03:45 AM PST Samsung Continuum tipped to launch ahead of Nexus Two The Samsung-branded Nexus Two which was rumoured to launch this week, has been held back due to problems with its hardware.
According to TechCrunch, a serious but unspecified hardware issue was discovered and the Nexus One successor will therefore be on hold until it's fixed.
Many believed that Samsung would reveal the Nexus Two at a press event scheduled for today to tie in with the Android Gingerbread OS update which is set to arrive on November 11th.
Gizmodo recently claimed they had already had their hands on the Nexus Two sporting a reported Samsung Galaxy S-like 4-inch AMOLED display and a front-facing camera.
It looks more likely that we will actually be seeing the two touchscreen-toting Samsung Continuum at this evening's event which you can follow on T3 to find out what Samsung has in store for us.

LG L-03C retro camera phone outed Posted: 08 Nov 2010 03:06 AM PST LG unleashes killer new camera with phone slapped round the back. Even the cheapest PAYG blower comes with a camera these days. But LG’s latest offering to combine snapping prowess with cellular skills is more a of a phone-camera than a camera-phone.
The L-03C, which has just been unveiled over in Japan, rocks traditional point and shoot looks, with a phone sitting round the back where you’d normally find a viewfinder.
It rocks some half-decent specs too, with a 3x optical zoom (no naff digital effort here), a 12 megapixel sensor and Pentax 1:3.6-5.5 lens too. Phone wise, you’re looking at Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G.
Chuck in HD video and this is definitely one to get off kilter gadget fans going. Sadly though, the L-03C is only up for grabs on Japan’s DoCoMo network, so there’s no chance us British gadget fanatics will get to play nice without heading East.

Call of Duty: Black Ops UK price 99p at Blockbuster Posted: 08 Nov 2010 03:01 AM PST CoD: Black Ops less than £1 from Blockbuster With gamers already queuing up around the country for the eagerly awaited midnight launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops, rental outlet and retailer Blockbuster has announced that it is to offer the latest addition to the CoD franchise for less than £1.
Blockbuster’s rock-bottom 99 pence price for Black Ops comes with a pretty hefty condition as you might expect with eager gamers looks to gain change from a quid having to fork over two selected recently released chart success titles.
With customers having to pass over two of their beloved titles, Blockbuster has announced that anyone partaking in the deal will also receive £5 worth of credit to spend in store.
The 99 pence Blockbuster offering has undercut the £4.97 low price that supermarket giant Asda yesterday unveiled. Unlike the Blockbuster deal, however, gamers attending Asda’s midnight openings will have to trade in just one of the recently released titles.
Will you be queuing at midnight this evening to get your eager gamer mitts on Call of Duty: Black Ops? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 finally gets Android 2.1 Posted: 08 Nov 2010 12:35 AM PST Upgrade lands, but is it too little, too late for the SE flagship? Sony Ericsson has finally brought Android 2.1 to the Xperia X10, ending months of speculation and delays. The software boost at last brings the X10 into 2010, with Google Goggles, continuous autofocus for HD video, five homescreens and improved backup options.
In addition, the X10 Mini and Mino Pro are both feeling the Android 2.1 love, as Sony Ericsson looks to push its Android blowers in the run up to Christmas.
However, questions will surely be asked about why it’s taken so long for this upgrade to make it into the wild. And with rival efforts rocking Android 2.2 already, and Android 2.3 set to debut this week, it appears the X10 still has a lot of catching up to do.
Is this upgrade enough? Or has Sony Ericsson already lost out to HTC and Samsung in the Android smartphone stakes? Tell us what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Android Gingerbread set for 11 November Posted: 07 Nov 2010 11:17 PM PST Sources claim 'Android 2.3' is just around the corner. The much-hyped and oft-touted Android Gingerbread update, Google’s next-gen edition of its mobile OS, is set to land this week according to inside sources.
IntoMobile has the scoop from a ‘trusted source’ which says Gingerbread, codenamed Android 2.3 and not Android 3.0 as some had expected, will be good to go on Thursday. Google is already testing a slew of devices using the latest version of the operating system, as well as sticking a Gingerbread Man outside its Stateside campus. Who needs hard facts when a life size version of a classic biscuit is on show?
That said, some updates to Google Maps do give an idea of the updated look of Android, while a mooted Samsung press conference was set to show off the so-called Google Nexus Two. It appears that the latter has been delayed, however, owing to major hardware concerns in the final testing stage.
At last, though, Android Gingerbread is imminent. Can Google nail the rollout this time? Or will thousands of phones end up stranded on older software as mobile makers struggle to work out how to make the new OS play nice with their blowers? Let us know what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
