Nokia X7 gaming phone spied: Remember the Nokia N-Gage? Nokia’s first stab at a gaming handset – back in the humble days before dedicated app stores – was a bizarrely ill-conceived monster of a handset that required you to hold it side on to talk. Nokia X7 gaming phone turns up in hands-on video

Posted: 26 Nov 2010 07:47 AM PST

Footage shows handset playing Need For Speed

Remember the Nokia N-Gage? Nokia’s first stab at a gaming handset – back in the humble days before dedicated app stores – was a bizarrely ill-conceived monster of a handset that required you to hold it side on to talk. Hopefully the X7, which has turned up in pics and video today, will be a different beast.

The device seems to be running an updated version of Symbian^3, with an 8-Megapixel camera and 4-inch display in a body fairly similar to the Nokia N8. What is different, however, is the speaker grills, of which there are no less than four. And they look beefy at that.

This points to the X7 being pitched as a full-on multimedia device – a plight aided by the footage of Need for Speed running pretty smoothly onscreen. Check out the video below to see for yourself:

Richard Branson to launch 'Project' iPad Magazine

Posted: 26 Nov 2010 07:14 AM PST

Branson and Murdoch go head-to-head in the battle of the iPad.

Speculation is rife that our favourite beardy billionnaire entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson is set to launch a Virgin iPad magazine called Project on Monday.

The iPad-only digital magazine will focus on business, culture, design, entertainment, travel, lifestyle and all of the other things that would-be Sir Richards like to read about. We just hope it's not a iPad version of his in-flight magazine.

The mag, which is being spearheaded by Branson's daughter Holly and former FHM Editor Anthony Noguera, will go head-to-head with Rupert Murdoch's rumoured 'The Daily' publication, a daily digital newspaper, which the media mogal has supposedly spent $30 million on already.

Both apps will be competing for virtual shelf space with T3, which once again boasts the highest grossing iPad edition on the Apple app store. We're ahead of Wired, GQ, Esquire, Vogue and Glamour.

The iOS 4.2 update for iPad also makes the app much more accessible and downloadable, so what are you waiting for? Download T3 iPad Edition today.

Weird News: Spaceships, Kelly Brook and Germans

Posted: 26 Nov 2010 06:19 AM PST

This week's more eccentric tech happenings, in association with Asylum.co.uk

GT5 Fail

Sometimes it pays to go premium, but often the allure of the extras just isn’t worth the cash. The latter applies for those who’ve shelled out £150 for the Signature Edition of GT5, who are currently having a real nightmare trying to exchange special codes for collectors’ edition cars…

Toy space shuttle yours for $2 million
Your childhood dreams have been answered. NASA is offering to sell a full-scale replica model of the Space Shuttle Discovery for a paltry $2.2 million. If you’ve got the funds lying around and are tempted, beware: sellers SpaceToys are leaving Postage and Packaging up to the buyer.

Kinect goes all Minority Report
The Kinect hacks are in full swing now, as pale men in darkened rooms begin to turn Microsoft’s innocent gaming device into a Johnny 5-style intelligent being. This week saw a leap forward, as some clever types managed to use the device for Minority Report-style gesture-based web browsing.

Fastest burglary ever
Make no mistake: T3 does not condone robbery. That said, you have to hand it to these undesirables, caught on CCTV de-homing three fixed plasma TVs in around about 20 seconds. If only they applied those skills to something beneficial to society… like roadworks.

Strangeness afoot in Germany #1
This slab of Euro-oddness exploded on news sites this week, and for good reason. What we have is a man caught on Google Street View seemingly climbing out of a car boot completely naked, while a nonchalant dog sleeps beside the car. …Explanations on a postcard.

Strangeness afoot in Germany #2
Your second round of Deutschland peculiarity comes in the form of another Street View screen. Or does it? Essentially, it turns out that a supposed shot from the mapping service showing a roadside birth is a fake. Quite why people would bother to set this up is beyond us, but each to their own.

Kelly Brook becomes the face of the LG Optimus One
We’ve already talked at length about dodgy tech-celeb hookups, but we couldn’t resist bringing you this earlier in the week, simply because Kelly Brook is – as you may well have noticed – fairly attractive. Presumably, she also knows her stuff when it comes to Android. She’s probably already rooted.

Motorola Milestone 2 on sale in UK

Posted: 26 Nov 2010 04:55 AM PST

Get Moto's best phone yet.

The Motorola Milestone 2 has finally gone on sale here in the UK. Expansys has slapped the flagship Android phone with a hefty £379 price tag SIM-free.

Sadly, no networks have yet stepped up to offer the Milestone 2. However, Expansys is bundling the phone with subsidised SIMs, so you can at least score the phone without having to hand over a hefty wedge.

The Milestone 2 has been out in the States as the Droid 2 for months, rocking a slideout QWERTY pad and eschewing the naff directional pad of the original model.

Tempted? Or are you waiting for Android Gingerbread and a string of classier phones in the New Year? Tell us on Facebook and Twitter now.

Three to sell cheap iPad

Posted: 26 Nov 2010 03:04 AM PST

No word on price, but expect bargain deals in the 'coming months'.

Orange and T-Mobile have led the charge with their plans to unleash a bargain-bucket subsidised iPad. And now Three is following suit, announcing that it will also be selling Apple’s tablet on the cheap.

In a statement, the network said, “Three UK today announced it will offer new purchase options for iPad users, including more affordable prices when purchased with a data service plan, for iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G models in the coming months.”

Sadly, it didn’t go into any detail, so it’s still unclear when these cheapo iPads will land and just how much they’ll cost. But with Orange and T-Mobile expected to kick things off at £200, you can expect Three to try and undercut them significantly.

How this will tie on with the iPad 2’s release next year remains to be seen. Will the old-school iPad become contract centred, while the iPad 2 is offered at full price? Tell us what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Gran Turismo 5 Signature Edition hit by 'invalid' codes

Posted: 26 Nov 2010 03:03 AM PST

Lastest GT5 issues hit big spenders

Gran Turismo 5 fans who splashed out on the extravagant GT5 Signature Edition have encountered a number of issues as the codes allowing them to redeem exclusive cars fail to be recognised as valid.

Repeated posts on Sony’s official Gran Turismo 5 forum has revealed a number of distressed Signature Edition owners have received an ‘invalid’ message when attempting to redeem the five collector’s edition cars that come included in the game’s £150 Signature Edition.

The issues facing Signature Edition owners come after massive online demand caused GT5 single player gamers to be hit by repeated loading delays and slow, impeded gameplay. Whilst Sony has acknowledged the online feed problems an announced a patch due to launch this weekend, no official word has yet arrived regarding the invalid Signature Edition codes.

Coming packed in an exclusive metallic black Signature Edition contoured metal case, the £150 Gran Turismo 5 offering includes a GT branded Mercedes SLS AMG 1:43 model car, GT stamped leather wallet, a branded USB key containing exclusive Gran Turismo video content and a new Polyphony designed dynamic theme. A GT branded key fob, Signature Edition coffee table book and a drivers guide also join the five downloadable collector’s edition cars that feature special performance enhancements and exclusive liveries.

Have you encountered problems with your Signature Edition copies of Gran Turismo 5? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Acer boss: our tablets will overtake iPad

Posted: 26 Nov 2010 02:15 AM PST

Fighting talk from Gianfranco Lanci as he claims iPad sales are slowing.

You certainly can’t accuse Acer’s top suit Gianfranco Lanci of lacking ambition. Having outed two new Android tablets, a smartphone/tablet hybrid and a new Windows effort this week, he reckons his company can take Apple’s tablet top spot within two to three years.

Speaking to Digitimes, Lanci was in bullish mood. “Sales of iPad pushed forward very fast initially, but have slowed down in the past few weeks,” he said. However, there’s no proof that the latter is the case, with Apple having sold around 7.5 million since its launch in April.

Warming to his theme, Lanci said, “We hope our tablet PCs can reach a global market share of 10-20% initially, and become the market leader in two to three years.” That’s mighty ambitious seeing as Acer’s tablets aren’t even due to go on sale until April next year, by which point the iPad 2 will probably be on shelves.

Apple currently has a whopping 95.5 per cent of the tablet market, although Samsung’s Galaxy Tab is making inroads and a whole new line of Android efforts are expected at CES next year. Lanci said he is also targeting Samsung, while also talking up Acer’s new Alive store, which will sell music, movies and apps.

Is Acer’s boss right about his slates’ chances? Or has Apple got the tablet market sewn up? Let us know what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages now.

Tesco Phone Shop offers £250 when you sign up for new mobile deal

Posted: 26 Nov 2010 12:00 AM PST

Killer offer runs until the end of December.

Priming yourself for a new mobile, but can’t decide which network to hand over your hard-earned to? It looks like Tesco has just made that decision a hell of a lot easier, with the announcement that it’s giving away a £250 voucher with certain blowers, which you can then spend on anything in store or online.

You get the full amount if you sign on the dotted line for a Sony Ericsson Cedar or Samsung S3100. The Samsung Europa and Samsung Wave Scotia (surely the most ludicrous name for a phone ever conceived) come with £200, the Nokia 6303i with £150 and the BlackBerry 8520 with £100.

Tesco says the offer is unconditional and will run until 31 December. That said, you have to put pen to paper by 10 December in order to get the dosh before Christmas. Otherwise you’ll have to wait until the New Year to load up on knockdown food and endless January sales nonsense.

Apple UK Black Friday deals unveiled

Posted: 25 Nov 2010 11:45 PM PST

Praise be for Thanksgiving, as Apple gives us Brits some Black Friday love

God bless Thanksgiving. For without it, there would be no Black Friday. The annual US shopping extravaganza, which guarantees a certain number of store-based riots once the best bargains are gone, has made its way to the UK again this year. And Apple is leading the charge, discounting a slew of stuff for one day only.

There’s a whacking £81 off Macs, meaning the basic iMac drops to £918, the 13-inch MacBook Air to £1,018 and the MacBook Pro 13-inch falls to £918 too.

You can save £15 on a new iPod touch, £11 on a nano and £35 on an iPad. The latter sees the 16GB Wi-Fi only slate slip below the magic £400 mark, so now’s the time to strike if you’ve been umming and ahhing. Sadly, the iPhone is not included, staying at £419 for the 16GB model.

Of course, you’ll need to be quick, as Apple is only showing temporary signs of sanity before putting its prices back up to bank balance bothering levels. Its online store will have the deals all day, while its high street shops are staying open late. Best bust out the credit card now.
