HTC Desire upgrades could be inbound before the year's end if reports are to be believed. Rumoured today and only bolstered by official HTC claims was the news that the HTC Desire is to get HTC Sense compatibility "by the end of the year". Nice. Elsewhere on the mobile front, Three Mobile announced that it is to start offering the now million unit selling LG Optimus One handset.

Christmas gaming favourites, Microsoft Kinect and Call of Duty: Black Ops have both been making headlines today thanks to their strong opening sales. Whilst those looking to offer up a festive motion gaming treat are urged to buy Kinect this week to avoid stock shortages, the new CoD offering has broken all global open week sales records previously held be last year's Call of Duty release, Modern Warfare 2.

Apple fans rejoice, your Cupertino made products are to get Flash compatibility, well, as long as you have the new MacBook Air, iPhone and iPad users have a wait yet. The news came from the Adobe CEO who announced a Mac compatible version of Flash was in beta testing. Apple's new earlier this week that it was to offer the full Beatles back catalogue on iTunes has struck a chord with fans of the Fab Four as The Beatles dominated the iTunes charts in the opening 24 hours of sales.

HTC Desire to get HTC Sense compatibility this year

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 09:00 AM PST

HTC Desire to be first existing handset to add Sense

HTC Sense, the cloud-based remote handset tracking and locking service for compatible HTC devices looks set to be ported to older, existing handsets it has emerged with the flagship HTC Desire leading the charge.

The new reports from TechRadar, claim HTC handset users have been contacted by the Taiwanese phone manufacturer with information on the imminent availability of the HTCSense.com service.

Although HTC has given no official word on which existing handsets will be compatible with the HTC Sense service when expanded to include older devices, it did state details should be with us “by the end of the year”. The message reportedly sent to HTC customers read: "At this time we are unable to confirm when the Desire will be compatible with HTCSense.com. We hope to make this available before the end of the year."

The free to use HTCSense.com service was officially announced back in September alongside the launch of the Android powerhouse that is the HTC Desire HD and the full-QWERTY slider boasting HTC Desire Z.

Call of Duty: Black Ops breaks Modern Warfare 2 records

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 08:22 AM PST

Battles of the Call of Duty titles goes to Black Ops

Call of Duty: Black Ops has broken the global opening week sales records previously held by CoD: Modern Warfare 2, generating $100 million more than its predecessor, publisher Activision has revealed.

Taking a reported $650 million in its opening week, Call of Duty: Black Ops is well on its way to the $1 billion mark which Activision Blizzard CEO, Bobby Kotick is more than happy to point it out: "Call of Duty has become the first entertainment property in history to set five-day launch records for two consecutive years across all forms of entertainment.”

Not wanting to rest on their laurels, CEO of Activision Publishing Eric Hirshberg declared "There are millions of people all over the world engaging in this community. It's our job to keep them coming back for more."

"There are many reasons for the success of Black Ops, but first and foremost is the fact that our team at Treyarch delivered a truly awesome game, and in the process have established themselves as one of the most talented developers in the world.”

Still along way from surpassing the total sales record held by last year’s offering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops is now targeting the Christmas number one spot ahead of next week’s arrival of Gran Turismo 5, an accolade that bookies has it odds-on favourite to achieve.

Which is better Call of Duty: Black Ops or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? Let us know what you think via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

The Beatles dominate iTunes charts in opening 24 hours

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 07:44 AM PST

Apple iTunes Beatles announcement sees Fab Four in the charts

The Beatles have stormed the iTunes download charts landing 54 songs in the iTunes top 200 just 24 hours after being made available in digital form for the first time by Apple.

With Apple announcing on Tuesday that the full Beatles back catalogue would finally be made available on iTunes following a decade long dispute with record label EMI, the Fab Four have landed all 17 of their albums in the top 55 with Hey Jude proving the most popular of the band’s songs to download.

Although many expected The Beatles to close out the top ten, such lofty predictions appear to have fallen by the wayside as Hey Jude topped The Beatles’ collection at number 28 in the charts, joined in the top 50 by Twist and Shout, Here Comes the Sun and Let it be. It would appear that despite this new easy access to Beatles tunes, fans of the most influential band in history already own the CDs and the era merging music is not only bigger than Jesus but bigger than Apple and the digital age.

The Beatles’ albums have faired better in terms of chart positions with Abbey Road landing at number five, followed by the White Album, Sgt. Pepper and the Blue Album in eighth, ninth and tenth positions respectively.

Is The Beatles’ arrival on iTunes worth all the hype or is the announcement as dated as their pudding bowl hairdos? Let us know what you think via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Gran Turismo 5 release price just £4.99 at HMV

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 07:03 AM PST

GT5 given sub-£5 launch price

With the global launch of Gran Turismo 5 now just days away, retailers have kicked into gear the inevitable pricing wars that will surround the launch of the ultimate racing sim which has kept gamers in waiting for years.

First to show its hand in this battle of the pounds and conditions, highstreet entertainment retailer HMV has revealed that it will offer Gran Turismo 5 for just £4.99 if wannabe GT5 owners are willing to trade in a copy of the graphically impressive Formula 1-based simulator Codemasters’ F1 2010.

Gamers looking to make use of this £4.99 offering will have to act fast as HMV announced that the deal would run for just three days following the launch of the new Gran Turismo next Wednesday, November 24th.

Fear struck eager Gran Turismo fans yesterday when it emerged that mainland Europe GT5 launch will be hit by a further two day delay as the release date got pushed back to November 26th. At present there is no sign this will be the case for UK fans of the ultimate driving franchise.

"We have heard rumours about European delays but are not able to speculate as to their validity. We can say that the UK launch is still definitely Wednesday the 24th November and our stock is on its way to us.” declared Marketing Manager of online games retailer ShopTo.Net.

“We know how important this game is to our customers and will do everything in our power to ensure its safe arrival with them on release day."

Will you be picking Gran Turismo 5 on launch date? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds and stay tuned to T3.com for all the latest on the GT5 pricing wars.

Apple MacBook Air-compatible Adobe Flash in the works

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 06:31 AM PST

Adobe versus Apple: The battle lightens

The Adobe, Apple feud looks set to reach some sort of resolution shortly after Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen announced the company was working on a MacBook Air compatible version of Flash.

When the latest rendition of the Apple MacBook Air hit shelves last month, early adopters were surprised to find the ultra thin laptop was lacking the video rendering software. Further shocks were in store for new MacAir users when it emerged that adding Flash to the highly desirable gadget cut up to two hours from its battery life.

Speaking to an audience at the San Francisco-based Web 2.0 conference, Narayen stated that a Mac compatible version of Flash was on its way with beta testing already underway. The tumultuous relationship between Adobe and Apple is one that has been well publicised and repeatedly criticised by end users, many of whom resent the lack of Flash on iOS running iPhone and iPad devices.

Not one to rectify all issues with the Cupertino company, Narayen reported went on to add that the issues faced in the past with Flash compatibility are all down Apple and the prevention of early access to hardware acceleration.

Are you excited by a MacAir compatible version of Flash or still holding out for an iPhone and iPad edition? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Facebook Credits to be offered in store by UK retailers

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 03:32 AM PST

Facebook Credits to take physical form

Facebook Credits, the virtual currency used on the social networking site are to be made available in physical gift card form across the UK this week.

Retail giant Tesco and highstreet gaming favourite GAME have both announced they are to stock the Facebook Credits which can then be used to buy games and apps on the world’s leading social networking site.

Currently there are more than 200 Facebook-based apps and games that accept the new currency form, lead by the site’s most popular game, Farmville. Although currently limited to use on Facebook.com itself, Deborah Liu, manager of product marketing for Facebook Credits and games at Facebook, has expressed her views on the future expansion of the credit system across Facebook Connect, the system that allows users to login to external sites using their Facebook ID.

“Someday it’s something that we would consider,” she said, “but there’s a lot that we want to do on Facebook.com for now.”

GAME will sell the Facebook Credits gift cards in £5, £10 and £25 denominations which Tesco will offer the social spending in £10 and £20 forms.

“We now offer a range of gift cards and social gaming is becoming increasingly popular, so we are pleased to offer what might be an ideal Christmas present." announced the head of cards at Tesco Bank, Euan Ballantyne.

What do you think of the new availablility of Facebook Credits, a convenient way to expand online social gaming or a further step into unwanted Facebook domination? Let us know your views via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Virgin Media steps up fight with rival ISPs

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 03:17 AM PST

Stopthebroadbandcon.org aiming to make broadband ads fairer. But is Virgin really better than the rest?

Virgin Media has this morning upped its war of words with rival ISPs, unveiling a brand new website that aims to show punters just what their average broadband speed is compared to those advertised.

Stopthebroadbandcon.org also lets web users add their name to an online petition calling for greater transparency in broadband advertising. Virgin claims the site will help everyday users be heard by the Advertising Standards Agency, which is investigating broadband advertising following a string if spurious claims in recent months. The site’s launch follows an Ofcom report which said there was a growing gap between “up to” speeds and what web fanatics were actually getting.

Research commissioned by Virgin claims that nine out of ten people find broadband commercials confusing, and Branson’s ISP is talking up the fact that it already touts a ‘speed honesty’ area on its site, showing just how fast its services really are.

Is Virgin right to highlight the problem? Or does its broadband suffer from the same issues that are plaguing its rivals? Let us know your thoughts on our Facebook and Twitter pages now.

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 02:57 AM PST

New Rebirth Trailer best GT5 insight yet

The latest and most tantalising preview trailer for the upcoming release of Gran Turismo 5 has been unveiled with an unknown fan responsible for the edit that could cause Sony a few blushes.

Gran Turismo fanatic KopparbergDave, also known as David Hunter according to his Twitter page, has released the Gran Turismo 5 Rebirth Trailer that offers the most exciting and possibly the best GT5 trailer to date.

Splicing scenes from previous GT5 trailers and the BBC’s Formula 1 intro film, the Rebirth Trailer (below) features audio from “The Scream of Science” and “Rebirth” by the band Hadouken.

Following repeated delays and countless set backs, Gran Turismo 5 is set to finally hit stores globally next Wednesday, November 24th, permitting a reported further delay across Europe doesn’t see expectant gamers once again left disappointed.

Asus Eee Note: Greyscale tablet set to debut at CES 2011

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 02:50 AM PST

Has Asus found a niche in the tablet market?

You have to applaud a company who bring something new to the table. While all and sundry is currently doings its best to out-iPad the iPad, Asus has taken a step back and seen how they could do things differently. Enter the Eee Note, which is expected to debut at CES 2011 in January.

The 8-inch tablet features a 2,450DPI greyscale display with a revolution of 1024x768, meaning it look more like an ereader than a tablet PC at first glance. The Note is all about, well… notes, though. The bundled stylus will aid in taking handrwirtten notes and sketches, and the 2-Meg camera will allow users to attach pictures to their workings.

It’s shaping up to be a real work-friendly tool. It’ll also handle ebooks, as you’d expect - turning pages in a tenth of a second, but little is known about the Eee Note’s computer spec or operating system. Estimates put it at a sub-£300 price tag, but only time will tell.

Has Asus got this right, or is it missing a trick by avoiding colour? Let us know on the T3 Twitter feed.

Microsoft: buy Kinect this week if you want it for Christmas

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 12:09 AM PST

Don Mattrick says if you want Kinect, you'd better be fast.

Kinect is already doing the business, shifting a million in the space of just ten days, with the Big M claiming it’s well on track to break the five million barrier in the run up to Christmas. But if you want to lay your hands on one for the big day, you’d better be quick.

See, Microsoft’s Don Mattrick reckons that you’ll need to have ordered Kinect “by the end of this week” to stand any chance of having one wired up to your Xbox 360 for 25 Decemvber. Mattrick was speaking at the Web 2.0 summit, where he said he wasn’t just talking bluster in order to drive up sales.

Kinect’s popularity is undoubted, and if it continues at this rate, Microsoft can be confident that they’ll slap down Sony’s Move effort in the battle for motion control supremacy.

Have you bought Kinect? Or are you still holding out? Let us know what you think of the hands-free effort on our Twitter and Facebook pages.

PSP2 dev kit spotted

Posted: 17 Nov 2010 11:44 PM PST

Slider model touted, but design changes expected.

The PSP2 is starting to feel like a dead cert for 2011. And now it’s looking even more likely with the leak of an early dev kit of the new handheld. The model in this snap might not look promising, but this new edition rocks some seriously impressive features.

We’re talking HD screen, a pair of thumb sticks (a feature the PSPgo desperately needed), a dual cameras, a ‘rear trackpad’, plus 360MB of RAM, according to VG247.

That slider design is apparently not the final build, with Sony said to be eschewing the PSPgo style for something more akin to the original PSP. This would make sense seeing as the updated form factor has never really caught on.

What do you want from the PSP2? Let us know what you think of the latest deets to slip out on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
