Gran Turismo 5 launch day is still a couple of days off but that just means it is great news for a number of gamers who saw pre-ordered copies of GT5 landing on doormats today. With two extra days to get behind the wheel of GT5's 1,031 vehicles you might think they are at a gaming advantage but with GT5 first installs taking 50 minutes they might still be waiting to get off the line come Wednesday's official launch.

Apple iPad 2 rumours kicked into overdrive today as T3 exclusively revealed that a high-profile source close to a major service provider confirmed to us a new 3G Apple iPad would launch pre-Christmas with an integrated SIM card. The news came after it was revealed the iPhone 5 integrated SIM plans have been scrapped following a backlash from service providers. Keep your eyes peeled on T3 for the latest.

Upcoming playful tech has made headlines today as the Sony PlayStation Phone and BlackBerry PlayBook tablet both hit the news with release date information. Whilst the Sony PlayStation Phone is to land in February at Mobile World Congress according to the Sony Ericsson boss, RIM's head honcho has said the BlackBerry PlayBook will hit the UK second quarter of 2011. Still a little time to wait yet then.

eBay updates iPhone app to combine buying and selling

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 09:18 AM PST

Top app A+++++++++ would use again!

Christmas is coming and those looking to raise cash and spot some bargains will once again turn to online car boot sale eBay for inspiration.

Now eBayers can turn use just one iPhone app to buy and sell after the company consolidated its offering into one do-it-all package. It previously had one app for buying and one app for selling, the latter of which uses the iPhone's camera to take pictures of the item.

The new version also includes a barcode scanner to allow prospective buyers to compare prices with those on eBay, and a Deals of the Day section. There's also a Quick View section to allow users to check on items they're selling or bidding on.

The eBay app, which was among the very first launched on the App Store has been downloded 13.5 million times to day, and this new version is sure to add to its popularity.

Remember the days when we were afraid to leave our computer screens in case we were sniped at the last minute? No longer.

iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch get iOS 4.2 update

Apple has officially announced the arrival of its latest mobile OS update, iOS 4.2, which is set to bring multitasking capabilities and folder management to the iPad.

Available for download later today, other notable additions to the iPad of the reported “100 new features from iOS 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2” include the arrival of AirPrint, AirPlay, a unified email inbox and Game Center whilst iPhone and iPod Touch users are set to receive a number of glitch fixes.

“iOS 4.2 makes the iPad a completely new product, just in time for the holiday season,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs in the official iOS 4.2 release. “Once again, the iPad with iOS 4.2 will define the target that other tablets will aspire to, but very few, if any, will ever be able to hit.”

As we reported earlier, the iOS 4.2 update, which users will be able to download for free by syncing their iOS compatible devices to iTunes 10.1 is expected to be switched live at 1PM Eastern Time, 6PM UK, in keeping with Apple’s infamously predictable routines.

AirPrint will allow iPhone and iPad users to print wirelessly from their devices to a selection of AirPrint enabled printers whilst AirPlay will transform user’s iDevices into wireless streamers for Apple TV.

Which iOS 4.2 features are you most looking forward to getting on your iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Apple iOS 4.2 release expected later today

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 06:13 AM PST

Multitasking and folders to hit iPad thanks to iOS 4.2

After plenty of speculation and expectation as to when the latest edition of the Apple mobile operating system would finally land, today looks like it could be the day as Apple prepares the arrival of iOS 4.2.

Gadget site TechRadar is reporting that “a source close to the matter” has confirmed iOS 4.2 will be made available for a full range of Apple products by the fruity tech company later today with the usual 1PM Eastern Time arrival hotly tipped as the firm favourite for launch.

If accurate, UK iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users could be updating their device’s operating system by our 6pm. Whilst iPhone and iPod Touch users will be happy to receive a number of glitch fixes such as to the alarm system affected by the clock changes and other slight improvements, it is iPad owners who are set to benefit most from the iOS 4.2 arrival.

Whilst multitasking is the big taking point as the iPad joins the iPhone with Apple’s double-tap app access method, folder management, Game Center and the will-they, won’t-they AirPrint are all set to hit the market leading tablet device.

What features of iOS 4.2 are you most looking forward to having on your iPad? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds and stay tuned to T3.com for all the latest on the arrival of Apple iOS 4.2.

Gran Turismo 5 release first load to take 50 minutes

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 03:57 AM PST

GT5 delays topped off by 50 minute load wait

With less than two days to go until the five year wait for Gran Turismo 5 is brought to an end, eager gamers could find the repeated delays prolonged a little longer after it is revealed GT5 will take 50 minutes to install.

With 10GB of free space required on the hard drives of Gran Turismo 5 gamers, GTPlanet forum blogger Amir212, who claims to be in possession of the upcoming release states that: "The game's install takes about 40 minutes. You're warned that it might be closer to 50.”

- Gran Turismo 5 price: Cheapest UK deals click here

"Amar's installation was done in ten minutes less than that, so it presumably depends a little on your model of PS3 and the hard drive you've got installed."

As the hype and anticipation regarding the launch of what is being described as the most graphically accurate and advanced game of all time, users looking to get behind the wheel of the ultimate driving simulator when it hits shelves across the UK on Wednesday will have to ensure they have a spare chunk of space on their PS3’s storage systems.

"The space taken is actually about 6.4GB, but that space gradually unpacks as you're playing to be closer to the previously mentioned 10GB."

Stay tuned to T3.com and the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds for all the latest on the upcoming release of the repeatedly delayed Gran Turismo 5.

Wii 2: HD graphics needed above all else say T3 readers

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 03:42 AM PST

Nintendo, take note...

We asked, and the T3 masses spoke. Lat week we were prompted by official word from Nintendo to ask you, our loyal readers, what you’d most like to see in the Wii 2. The options were varied, but we tried to include everything that the original motion-control console has often been criticized for lacking, or that will be likely from a sequel from Ninty.

The results were varied, but left little doubt as to what the majority need to see in the Wii 2 for it to deserve your cash. While just 12.32 per cent of you wanted more adult-orientated games, 13.75 per cent felt that 3D gaming is the way to go and 15.47 per cent demand more accurate motion control, a more optimistic 23.5 per cent of the vote went for 3D gaming.

That leaves the majority vote then, 34.96 per cent, who think the main criteria for the Wii 2 is market-leading HD graphical capabilities. The Wii has been condemned in the past for its short-sighted lack of HD graphics, and some developers have struggled to port leading titles over to the machine, thanks to its lower spec when compared to the Xbox and PS3 – so it’s no surprise that you voted in droves for that option.

As Kevin Morrin put it on the T3 Facebook page: “Since the PlayStation Move is what the Wii should have been, Nintendo will need to pull out all the stops for a Wii 2.”

Free MobileMe for iPhone users incoming?

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 03:14 AM PST

New over-the-air syncing system could be behind MobileMe changes.

Apple is preparing to offer free access to its MobileMe service with the release of iOS 4.2. That’s according to MacRumors, which has unearthed mentions of “free accounts” in the final build of the OS, which is due to land this week.

While this is undoubtedly good news for those who aren’t down with paying Apple a subscription fee, it appears unlikely that this will stretch to free MobileMe mail. Code in the gold master build of iOS 4.2 also says, “This Apple ID cannot be used for MobileMe Mail, but you can use it for other MobileMe services."

Instead, it seems you’ll be able to tap into MobileMe using your Apple ID, allowing you to use other services such as iDisk, Find My iPhone and over-the-air syncing of Calendars, Notes and Contacts. The latter is an area where iOS has been seriously lagging behind Android, which uses Google sign-ins to sync contacts info and restore backed-up apps.

All will be revealed this week, with 24 November pegged as the release date for the much-awaited iOS 4.2. Will you use MobileMe if it’s free? Let us know on our Facebook and Twitter pages now.

Apple iPad 2 release pre-Christmas with integrated SIM

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 02:57 AM PST

Apple iPad to be given pre-Christmas overhaul

Whilst Apple has reportedly cancelled plans to introduce an integrated SIM card to the next rendition of the iPhone, a new Apple iPad 3G is believed to be preparing for launch with an integrated SIM ahead of the Christmas period.

A reliable source close to a major UK network has this morning reported to T3 that the next edition of the market leading Apple tablet will be made available pre-Christmas with an inbuilt SIM, eliminating the hefty contract fees currently enforced on 3G iPad owners.

Currently supporting a micro SIM, the iPad 3G is at present not subsidized by mobile carriers allowing for an easier transition into a SIM integrated model. According to the Sunday Telegraph, plans for an integrated SIM touting iPhone were scrapped due to potential riffs with mobile network providers.

One “senior source at a mobile operator” is reported to have said: “Apple has long been trying to build closer and closer relationships and cut out the operators. But this time they have been sent back to the drawing board with their tails between their legs.”

Whilst we don’t expect the new pre-December 25th iPad to host the bevy of tech delights hotly tipped for the iPad 2 such as front and rear facing cameras, FaceTime video calling, dual-dock connectors and on a hopeful front, Flash integration, its arrival could coincide nicely with the launch of the upcoming iOS upgrade, the multitasking enabling iOS 4.2.

Stay tuned to T3.com and the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds for all the latest on the launch of a integrated SIM touting Apple iPad 3G including arrival dates, compatible networks and prices.

Facebook ruining the internet, says Tim Berners-Lee

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 02:54 AM PST

Web locking you into separate sites too much, claims web creator

Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the internet, has hit out today at Facebook, iTunes and similar sites for gluing people into their services and hindering the idea of a fluid, open internet. The web pioneer said that we’re giving too much data to social networks and that ‘the more you enter, the more you become locked in.’

Berners-Lee, who gave away his groundbreaking work on a royalty-free basis, believes in a fluid web in which all data is open and shared between services, but he worries that the more Facebook’s ‘kind of architecture gains widespread use, the more the web becomes fragmented – and the less we enjoy a single, universal information space.’

He also warned that if ‘that one site gets so big it becomes a monopoly’ it will ‘limit innovation.’ 'You can access an iTunes link only using Apple’s patented iTunes programme. You are no longer on the web,’ said Berners-Lee. ‘The iTunes world is centralised, walled off. You are trapped in a single store, rather than being on the open marketplace.’

Are you in agreement with the web’s inventor, or do you think that companies have a right to use the internet as they see fit? Let us know on the T3 Twitter feed.

BlackBerry PlayBook UK release: second quarter 2011

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 02:07 AM PST

$500 price tag and 4G tech also touted by exec.

The BlackBerry PlayBook looks set to land safely on UK shores in the second quarter of 2011, following its release in North America between January and March. That’s the word direct from Gregory Wade, RIM’s top exec in the Asia Pacific region.

That means we might not see the iPad rival in waiting arrive here until next June, putting it way behind the iPad 2 and the undoubted slew of Android tablets which will get an airing at CES in January.

Wade also confirmed to Digitimes that the PlayBook would cost $500 (£311). RIM’s CEO recently claimed it would come in under that mark, although it’s likely he meant $499. Either way, that matches the basic iPad price and that’s before network subsidies are taken into account.

4G tech is also said to be under the hood, although it’s unclear whether this means WiMAX, LTE or HSPA+. With the iPad 2 just round the corner, RIM has a hell of a job on its hands to try and crack the nascent tablet market and come out on top.

iPhone embedded SIMs: Apple scraps plans

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 01:01 AM PST

SIM-embedded iPad is on the cards though.

Chatter about Apple using new embedded SIM cards in the next-gen iPhone has been rife for some time now. But now a source claims Apple has been stymied by the networks in its attempts to fully control how users buy and use the top-end smartphone.

Initial plans had suggested that the new embedded SIM cards would help Apple bypass the networks and let customers buy the phone without having to sign up to a lengthy contract. Punters could theoretically shop around on Apple’s store for the best deal using the open SIM. It would also mean roaming charges would be cut as users could choose a new package according to which country they were in.

However, networks have apparently reacted angrily, saying they were unwilling to cede such control to Cupertino. A “senior source” at one network told The Telegraph, “Apple has long been trying to build closer and closer relationships and cut out the operators. But this time they have been sent back to the drawing board with their tails between their legs."

But Steve Jobs hasn’t been totally thwarted. The iPad 2 is said to be coming with an embedded SIM, thanks to the fact it’s not available on subsidised deals.

Bummed? Or is this a case of Apple trying to bully its way to the top? Have your say now over on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Daily: the iPad newspaper lives

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 12:00 AM PST

New York-based iPad paper will have no print or web edition.

Steve Jobs and Rupert Murdoch are reported to be putting the finishing touches to a new collaboration, which will see the first iPad-only newspaper launch in the new year.

Dubbed ‘Daily’ the paper is said to have no print or web version, instead being pushed automatically to subscribers’ Apple tablets. Word is that with print costs non-existent, a subscription will cost just 99c a week across the pond.

Murdoch is said to have come up with the idea after research showed punters spent more time on their iPads than they did on the traditional web, with the suggestion that readers were less likely to navigate away from a news story on the Apple slate.

News Corp is said to have already fixed up office space for Daily in its New York building, while Apple will provide back-end assistance. It’s not yet clear if Daily will simply work on the iPad, or if rival slates will be able to play nice. With Apple’s obsession with a closed ecosystem, it seems highly unlikely.

Would you pay for Daily? Or have Steve Jobs and Rupert Murdoch got this one horribly wrong? Tell us now on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

PlayStation Phone set for MWC release?

Posted: 21 Nov 2010 11:41 PM PST

As rumours abound, Sony Ericsson CEO does little to deny existence of PlayStation Phone.

Rumours and early spy shots of the PlayStation Phone are so plentiful now, it comes as little surprise that the boss of Sony Ericsson is barely making an effort to conceal the gaming blower’s existence.

Bert Nordberg, Sony Ericsson’s CEO, when asked about the much-vaunted handset by the Wall Street Journal said, “There's a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere," before adding, “Sony has an extremely strong offering in the gaming market, and that's very interesting."

As if that wasn’t enough Nordberg also told the WSJ that, “…the future might be brighter,” for a Sony-backed gaming phone. He even said he wanted to make “noise” with a new phone at February’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, implying that the PlayStation Phone could take a bow then.

Of course, the X12 Anzu, could also be outed then. So what’s it to be? A new capacious Android flagship phone? Or the uber-hyped PlayStation cell we’ve been dreaming of for half a decade? Let us know what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
