Following on from the success of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which following its launch last year sold more than 20 million units grossing in excess of £1 billion, Activision Blizzard has issued a joking apology to employers around the world via its Twitter feed for "all the "sick" days your employees will take this week".

STD detector app infecting your iPhone shortly Posted: 09 Nov 2010 07:09 AM PST But do we really have to pee on our phone? Come on! We hear more and innovative uses for Apple's smartphone everyday, but an application that detects whether you've got the clap? Well that's taking things to a whole new level.
The proposed app, which had us thinking we'd by-passed winter and gone straight to April 1st, will require users to urinate on their pride and joy like a pregnancy test and plug it in to get the dreaded verdict on whether last week's sexual faux-pas gave you a gift that keeps on giving.
The £5.7m eSTI2 project, being overseen by a team of University of London scientists, will apparently use nanotechnology and software to analyse the sample.
If the news is bad, then you can book an appointment with your GP using the app, and pick up the ready-prepared prescription and get to work on relieving that itch.
The team working on the eSTI2 app reckon the technology is close to becoming a reality. It remains to be seen whether Apple is thinking of incorporating a "p**s here" sensor into its new iPhone 5.
Project Leader Dr Sadiq Tariq says: "Currently, if you want to know if you have an infection, your sample is usually sent to a laboratory and the results come back in a few days. Imagine how much more likely you would be to get tested if you could test yourself away from a clinic and have an on-the-spot, accurate result, but still let a doctor or pharmacist know within minutes that you may need treatment."

BlackBerry PlayBook release date February 2011? Posted: 09 Nov 2010 04:28 AM PST TSTT out PlayBook release date The upcoming tablet device from Canadian tech giant Research in Motion, the BlackBerry PlayBook has seemingly had its launch date outed by a relative unknown network provider as Telecommunication Services of Trinidad & Tobago (TSTT) peg the tablet with a February 2011 arrival.
Since its official unveiling back in September the eventual launch date of the impressively speced BlackBerry PlayBook has been a hot topic of discussion with a first quarter 2011 arrival hotly tipped as the favourite.
Looking to challenge the Samsung Galaxy Tab and Apple iPad for tablet supremacy, the PlayBook will use BlackBerry handsets as a modem to access the internet and will play host to a 1GHz dual-core processor, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a second 3-megapixel front-facing camera. Unlike many of the upcoming tablet arrivals, however, RIM’s BlackBerry offering will forgo Google’s Android operating system instead opting for propriety QNX software.
Stay tuned to T3.com and the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds for all the latest on the BlackBerry PlayBook arrival including UK launch dates and prices.

"Our research has shown there is an international audience of British TV fans that are frequently watching TV online – and we are excited about rolling out our iPlayer VOD service to meet and grow this demand.” announced Luke Bradley-Jones, Managing Director of the Global iPlayer.

Call of Duty: Black Ops review round-up Posted: 09 Nov 2010 03:27 AM PST Find out if Call of Duty: Black Ops is a hit with the critics After months of being teased with leaked footage, gameplay trailers and possible new features, Call of Duty Black Ops has finally been unleashed to the gaming masses.
Now that the dust has settled on the midnight launches across the country, we take a look at how the new CoD is being received.
Canadian gaming website Gaming Everything was considered to have the world's first review of the game giving Black Ops an impressive 9 out of 10 saying, It’s tough to hate on something as skillfully executed as Black Ops. Call of Duty remains the smoothest, most approachable first person shooter out there, and I had a blast playing it."
But what have the more notable gaming critics made of Treyarch's cinematic shooter?
See below for our Call of Duty: Black Ops review round up
Official Xbox Magazine UK - “Black Ops could have easily cracked under the enormous pressure to deliver given the unusual circumstances but deliver is exactly what Treyarch has done. When all is said and done, this is the 'proper' Call of Duty fans have been waiting for..” - 9/10
Eurogamer - "The results are never less than entertaining whatever you choose to do, then, but not exactly brave and bold either. Say what you like about No Russian - at least it was something different. ." - 8/10
IGN - "Whether extensive customisation options and inspirational multiplayer makes up for the ragged single player portion is sure to be a subject of controversy in the weeks and months ahead. Maybe next time we'll get the full package..." - 8.5/10
Videogamer - "Black Ops offers its own thoroughly enjoyable romp through some entertaining set-pieces. I've considered myself a Call of Duty fan for many years, and I've held a deep-seated distrust of Treyarch since Call of Duty 3. No longer." - 9/10
Joystiq - "We may all be competitive, but when games of the caliber of Call of Duty: Black Ops continue to be released, nobody has to lose." - 4/5
Gamereactor - "The singleplayer-mode offers a thrilling storyline, the multiplayer introduces currency and the directing is tighter than a pair of tight jeans in a rainstorm. Bravo!" - 9/10
Kotaku - "This is what video games should be, a confusion of interaction and story-telling, of graphics and camera movement, of play and parable." - Kotaku Editor's Choice

iWork 11 landing alongside Mac App Store Posted: 09 Nov 2010 02:08 AM PST Gossip suggests Mac App Store will stock Pages, Numbers and Keynote separately. Peeved that iWork 11 didn’t get the official nod alongside the ace iLife 11 last month? Well, it seems you may have to wait until the new year to get your hands on the new productivity package, with insiders suggesting iWork 11 will launch at the same time as the much-vaunted Mac App Store.
“People familiar with the matter” have told the chaps at AppleInsider that Pages, Numbers and Keynote will land in January, when Apple has to meet its target of launching the Mac App Store within 90 days of its announcement.
iWork 11 was apparently completed earlier this autumn and had been slated to appear during the recent “Back to the Mac” event, only to be pulled at the last minute.
Apple is said to be deciding whether to bother releasing a physical version of iWork 11, or whether to sell it solely through the Mac App Store, as either a bundle or as separate parts. The latter would allow punters to buy one of Pages, Numbers or Keynote, without getting the others.
All will be revealed in the New Year. Excited by the Mac App Store? Tell us what apps you want to see at launch on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Kinect will beat Move says US retailer Posted: 09 Nov 2010 01:23 AM PST As Kinect prepares itself for Euro launch, US store says it's in prime position to win war with Sony. PlayStation Move or Xbox Kinect? The motion control battle between Sony and Microsoft has only just got under way, with us European gaming fanatics not even getting hold of Kinect until this week.
But that hasn’t stopped Stateside retailer Gamestop claiming that Microsoft’s hands-free effort will come out on top in the run up to Christmas. “I'd say right now Microsoft's Kinect is looking to be the winner of the two for us,” said Bob McEnzie, the store’s senior VP of merchandising and marketing.
Speaking of Kinect he added, “We're very happy with the sell through over the weekend. It has met our expectations and actually exceeded our initial forecasts." Kinect is already sold out in the States, with Microsoft revising its sales forecast from three million to five million before the festive season.
Of course, Sony will point out that its stunning early numbers in both Europe and the US, coupled with an earlier release date, have given it the edge in this latest front in the gaming wars.
What do you reckon? Can Kinect kick ass? Tell us your thoughts on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

New PS3 Bluetooth headset outed Posted: 09 Nov 2010 12:00 AM PST Sleek new headset due to hit shelves later this month. Nabbed yourself Call of Duty: Black Ops for your PS3? Nokia takes back control of Symbian Posted: 08 Nov 2010 11:32 PM PST Nokia says it's still committed to Symbian despite latest changes. The Symbian Foundation is to give up development of the smartphone OS, with Nokia taking the task in house, in news announced yesterday.
Instead, the Symbian Foundation will now focus solely on defending the ailing operating system’s intellectual property, as well as promoting it around the world. The move will be completed by March next year, with Nokia saying the changes do not affect its commitment to the OS.
"The future of Symbian as a platform does not depend on the existence of the foundation," said Jo Harlow, Senior Vice President, Smartphones, Nokia. "The changes announced by the foundation have no impact on Nokia's Symbian device roadmaps or shipping commitments.”
The news comes after both Sony Ericsson and Samsung said that they would no longer be making phones using the operating system, with both shifting their focus to Google Android.
Will this change mean Nokia’s software and hardware finally plays nice together? Or does this really spell the end for Symbian? Let us know what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Samsung Continuum Android phone now official Posted: 08 Nov 2010 04:32 PM PST Worst kept secret out in the open at Samsung NYC launch Samsung has officially launched its latest Android device, the Continuum, at a media event in New York City on Monday evening.
The Android 2.1 device, which will fly under the Galaxy S banner, was leaked this morning when US network Verizon posted the entire user manual and a 360 degree photo on its website.
The headline news is that the device will have not one, but two touchscreens. It'll have a regular 3.4-inch Super AMOLED multi-touch display positioned about the world's first 'ticker' screen; a 1.8-inch display for notifications.
The unique ticker will show incoming calls, and texts as well as those you might have missed. It will also alert you to RSS updates, weather and will allow you to control your music.
Working on Samsung's assumption that checking your phone every five minutes annoys the hell out of people, the Korean giant has developed a grip sensor on the side of the device that will light up just the ticker with a pleasant little squeeze.
Other vital stats include a flash-loaded 5-megapixel camera with 720p video capture as well as a 1GHz Hummingbird processor and upto 32GB of storage. No word yet on whether this will be a US-only release or it'll be winging its way to the UK also.
