If that wasn't enough you can win a copy of Gran Turismo 5 along with a PS3 and 24 other top gaming titles in the T3 Competitions, why wouldn't you enter?

Apple iPad updates have seen the market leading tablet add an additional shiny star to its belt from the T3 reviews in the Apple iPad with iOS 4.2 review giving it a full five-star sweep. Despite adding version 4.2 just this week, the iPad could soon be in line for another update as Apple iOS 4.3 is expected to launch in December, that's right, in just a few short weeks time. Elsewhere on the Apple tablet front, the Cupertino company is giving away 100 free Apple iPads to its Twitter followers. How very generous.

New Angry Birds releases are the talk of app town as the Rovio published superstar of the app world is confirmed to gearing up for the festive period with an Angry Birds Christmas edition due to launch on December 11th, coinciding with the first annual Angry Birds day. In other app-based news, Coca-Cola has launch the first location-based app game in Coke Zero LiveCycle a where players compete in a TRON Legacy styled virtual location game.

Acer product unveilings kicked the day into action this morning as news filtered through from a bevy of new and exciting Acer items. First off the bat were the two new Android powered Acer tablets, 7- and 10.1-inch models capable of 1080p video playback, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity and the upcoming Andorid 3.0 Honeycomb OS set to launch early in the New Year. These were followed by the Acer 'next generation smartphone' a 4.8-inch device that is described as "100% smartphone, 100% tablet", well Acer the proof is in the pudding, and that Android influenced desert is due April 2011.

Royal Wedding 3D: the broadcasters speak

Posted: 24 Nov 2010 09:20 AM PST

Broadcasters give their verdict on the 3D royal wedding

No sooner was it announced than the rumours started the royal wedding would be broadcast in 3D. While there’s been no official announcement, some of the broadcasters are wording their statements very interestingly, and might be revealing more than they want.

A BBC spokesperson told us: "The BBC is running a small number of experiments with 3DTV to explore the creative potential in the format, evaluate the different technology options, and to allow us to contribute to the development of industry-wide standards.” They continued, “It is possible that our experiments may include some events, requiring live 3D, but there are no plans to share at present."

So the BBC could well be planning to broadcast the event, expected to eclipse Charles and Diana’s 750 million viewers back in 1981, in 3D on April 29th, though it’s not letting on as yet. It’d certainly be the kind of event television needed to propel 3D from early adopters to the mainstream.

Sky already has a 3D channel up and running, but a spokesperson told us, “We will look at it as we do any big event, but we’re not able to confirm anything at this stage.” Though considering the track record the broadcaster has with live 3D events, you’d be a fool to bet against it.

Virgin Media, meanwhile, is being a bit cagier. A spokesperson said, "As the first digital TV provider in the UK to bring 3D content to its customers, we're looking to broaden our range of exciting 3D on Demand with more shows to appeal to all tastes. We're really excited by this new immersive way to enjoy film and TV and will be looking to bring our customers new 3D content as it becomes available."

So early days yet, but we’ll bring you more as it’s announced.

Gran Turismo 5 release hit by online content patch

Posted: 24 Nov 2010 08:40 AM PST

Online GT5 content requires initial patch download

As gamers across the globe eagerly pull the plastic wrappers from their new and long awaited copies of Gran Turismo 5 today, those looking to access the title’s online content will be forced to install a new patch.

Released hours ahead of the game in an apparent fix of a previous oversight, new GT5 owners connecting their PS3 consoles to the internet will be required to install a weighty 133MB version 1.01 update which will activate and organise the game’s online modes, something seemingly otherwise unavailable.

With online modes allowing up to 16 gamers to compete against each other in a single high-octane race, online content is sure to be a big pull for the racing game that has been five years in the waiting.

Also slotted in to the 133MB update, is a selection of internet connected add-ons including a main menu news streaming panel and an online license agreement prompt.

Have you already hooked your copies of Gran Turismo 5 and downloaded the initial patch? Let us know if you think this heavily delayed release has been worth the wait via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Angry Birds Christmas edition to launch December 11th

Posted: 24 Nov 2010 08:02 AM PST

Angry Birds gets festive makeover

Angry Bird publisher Rovio has confirmed the imminent arrival of a Christmas themed edition of its phenomenally popular puzzle game app Angry Birds following the Halloween styled edition that launched last month.

Responding to a tweet sent from apparent Angry Birds fan SkeenaNC asking “is there going to be a Christmas version of angry birds?”, a Rovio spokesperson stated simply: “there will be new things for Christmas”.

With the arrival of the first Christmas Angry Birds screen shot, the Finnish developer holding the first annual Angry Birds day on December 11th and the Rovia Twitter feed recently changing its image to a Santa clad Angry Bird, the stage looks set for some winter virtual feathered arrivals.

In other Angry Birds news, Rovia has announced that 15 new desert-based levels entitled ‘Ham ‘Em High’ are to arrive in the next few days along with a whole new bird, The Mighty Eagle, seen in the video below, with the ability to help when stuck on a particular level.

Has Angry Birds had its day or is it still one of the best Apps out there? Let us know what you think via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

TRON: Legacy GPS-based LiveCycle game hits iPhone

Posted: 24 Nov 2010 06:44 AM PST

Prepare to be derezzed, Users!

We've seen many supremely cool movie and video game spin-off apps, but this tops the lot. The TRON: Legacy LiveCycle game for Apple iPhone allows you to control the iconic Lightcycle using your actual movements.

The world's first live GPS-based game, brought to you by Coke Zero, allows users to build a wall of light a with your movements while you're walking along, with the object of the game to make other 'users'  crash into it.

Anyone familiar with the TRON franchise will be know of the epic light cycle battles of the 1982 original and the forthcoming 3D TRON: Legacy release, which we're more excited about than Christmas. Like the movie, making other people crash into your lightbeam will earn you points.

The app does have a built-in speed limit, meaning you can't just jump on a motorbike and force people to crash into your imaginary beam, prompting a ten car pile-up and this rather humerous warning on the App Store page:

"WARNING: Coke Zero LiveCycle should be played outdoors on foot and in large, open areas. Never play while operating any kind of motor vehicle. This game must be played outdoors."

The game does require a Facebook login, which will give it access to your wall and personal information, but it will allow you to play against your Facebook friends in forthcoming versions.

This could be incredible or it could be kinda rubbish. We're off to download it now, and we'll let you know the findings on the T3 App Chart. There's an Android version coming soon and don't forget, TRON: Legacy is out on December 17th.

Check out the trailer here:

Free iPads being given away by Apple?

Posted: 24 Nov 2010 03:16 AM PST

64GB iPads up for grabs on what could be a genuine Apple Twitter account

Apple is set to give away 100 iPads when its news Twitter account AppleIncNews hits one million followers.

The account which appears to have been created back in January when the Cupertino company first made the iPad official, has not been verified, but 9to5Mac uncovered the account after taking a closer look through the recently verified account belonging to Apple's Senior Vice President Philip Schiller.

Recent Apple news stories such as the Beatles launching on iTunes, and iOS 4.2 arriving for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch link out to official Apple website pages while the October 20th ‘Back to the Mac’ event was also announced via the micro-blogging social networking site.

If it's the real deal, 100 lucky people will get their hands on a 64GB model of the 'revolutionary' tablet device, but as the followers of AppleIncNews currently sits at  70,997, there is some way to go to before the iPads are handed out. We imagine that could well change in the near future.

iOS 4.3 landing mid-December

Posted: 24 Nov 2010 03:12 AM PST

Software bump required to get new Apple/News Corp paper off the ground.

Apple is reportedly preparing iOS 4.3 for release in mid-December to coincide with the launch of The Daily, its new joint newspaper venture with Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. That’s according to MacStories, which says Cupertino could unleash the update on 13 December.

Sources have told the Apple-centric site that the move to iOS 4.3 is down to getting a new recurring subscriptions package off the ground, a key part of The Daily’s launch. The offering will allow papers to land directly onto the iPad, rather than punters shopping for single issues on a virtual newsstand.

Because of delays to iOS 4.2, however, there remains some doubt about when Apple will make the jump to iOS 4.3. Daring Fireball’s John Gruber says Steve Jobs and co are plotting an event on 9 December, a Thursday, with a release following the week after.

Either way, Apple and the iPad look set to dominate tech headlines in the run up to Christmas. Will you subscribe to The Daily? Tell us now on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Windows Phone 7 gets a push on Xbox Dashboard and Bing

Posted: 24 Nov 2010 03:10 AM PST

Handsets and apps being sent to the fore

"It's no accident that Microsoft has been more visible than usual," says Microsoft’s Todd Brix. After it was widely reported that Windows Phone 7 handsets didn’t exactly fly off the shelves at launch, MS is beginning a new campaign of swathing its other wares in WP7 colours.

The marketing attack comes in the form of targeted adverts and imagery on the Xbox Dashboard and a bespoke area in Bing’s Visual Search tool to discover Windows Phone 7 apps.

"We're heading into one of the biggest shopping weeks of the year and we're on pace to offer roughly 3,000 apps and games by the end of this week,” Say Brix. “Windows Phone devices, apps and games are now prominent features of the Xbox dashboard that people see on their televisions when they start Xbox and view tabs such as the Spotlight category." He goes on to say that Microsoft is using the “Bing decision engine to further showcase developers' Windows Phone 7 apps through Bing's Visual Search capabilities in the US and UK. This allows anyone with a browser to easily find, view and access the growing list of apps and games available for Windows Phones."

While on the subject of apps, Brix boasts that the platform has "seen a near 80% increase in the number of registered developers since September, with more than 15,000 developers already signalling their intent to bring exciting content to Windows Phone.”

“Clearly we're just getting warmed up,” he finishes. Get ready for the WP7 onslaught…

Acer Clear.fi media sharing unveiled

Posted: 24 Nov 2010 02:18 AM PST

Share snaps, music and movies with any Clear.fi enabled gadget.

Acer’s seemingly endless stream of announcements was brought to a head yesterday with the unveiling of its new Clear.fi media sharing software, which it says will let you chow down on whatever content you like across myriad gadgets.

The idea is simple. Clear.fi enabled gadgets will detect each other over your home network and in one simple interface, will allow you to see what media’s available to play on all of them. You can then pick a photo, a movie or some music stashed on your smartphone, say, and play it on your PC.

It’s as easy as picking the source of your content and hitting play. Acer reckons this means you’ll be able to seamlessly shift content around the home without having to resort to USB sticks and external hard drives.

What’s more, there’s deep social network integration, with the chance to post videos and snaps straight to Facebook, Flickr or YouTube. All Acer gadgets are set to come with the tech from now on.

Something you’d use or a bit of a gimmick? Let us know what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Acer Alive app store unveiled

Posted: 24 Nov 2010 01:23 AM PST

UK users get first taste of Alive next month.

Acer’s Android slates and new dual-screen lappie are all worth getting hot and bothered about. But just to make them even more appealing, the PC maker has outed its new ‘Alive’ app store, which will offer add-ons for all Acer kit, as well as the chance to nab all sorts of media.

The store is broken down into five areas: ‘listen’ offers tunes, podcasts and radio, ‘watch’ brings movies and vidcasts, ‘read’ is loaded up with eBooks and newspapers, ‘play’ has games and ‘applications’ packs the very latest add-ons by category.

There’s a built-in recommendation egine which you can tweak to ensure you get the content you want, as well as real-time feeds telling you just what’s new on the store.

You can post reviews and comments too, so everyone can know just how great (or bobbins) any particular app or download really is. UK and Italian gadget fanatics will be the first to get a taste, with a global rollout planned for early 2011. All Acer smartphones, laptops and PCs will play nice with Alive.

Acer primes 'next generation smartphone'

Posted: 24 Nov 2010 12:09 AM PST

New effort shown off at New York event.

Acer has pulled the wrappers off its new ‘next generation smartphone’ which its says is ‘100% smartphone, 100% tablet’. Marketing flimflam aside, this new phone really does look the part, with a 21:9, 4.8inch screen and a string of killer specs that’ll help put it at the top of the pile.

Under the hood there’s N standard Wi-Fi, 3G, Flash support, HSDPA up to 14.4Mbps, a must-have 1GHz Snapdragon processor and Bluetooth 3.0. Flip it round and you’ll find an 8 megapixel snapper with LED flash.

Acer says this cell is made for movies, and it’s hard to argue with the screen res revved up to 1024x480 and loaded up with LED backlighting. There’s HDMI support and DLNA too, so sharing flicks couldn’t be easier.

Whether this can top Acer’s recent limited smartphone efforts remains to be seen. At 170g, it’s not the lightest phone in the world and at 13.3mm, not the thinnest either. Specs wise though, it really does sound like a winner.

Sadly, pricing is MIA, with no news on which version of Android it’ll come preloaded with. Expect to see it on shelves from April 2011.

Acer Android tablets detailed

Posted: 23 Nov 2010 11:49 PM PST

Two new models primed for New Year release.

That fancy dual-screen Acer Iconia a tad too futuristic for you? Then how about the PC cobbler’s new Android tablets, which were given an official airing at the same time?

Acer has unveiled 7-inch and 10.1-inch slates which are both set to cram in Google’s mobile OS. The 10.1-inch number is specced to the hilt, with a capacitive touchscreen, 1080p video, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity and a sleek 13.3mm aluminium frame.

Acer claims that thanks to multitouch and a gyroscope it’ll be able to, “…play premium HD arcade games and complex online 3D games,” which will be, “on par with the best game consoles.” Bold claims indeed.

The 7-inch effort packs in a super high-res, 1280x800 panel, along with HDMI, a front-facing “HD camera”, Flash support, Wi-Fi, 3G, Dolby Mobile and DLNA. Both the 10.1-inch and 7-inch Acer tablets are due out in April 2011, which means they should land replete with Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

Elsewhere, Acer also touted another 10.1-inch tablet, this time with Windows 7 inside. It comes with a keyboard dock, measures just 15mm thin and tips the scales at less than 1kg. There’s an AMD processor inside, with two 1.3MP cameras for video nattering. Wi-Fi and 3G are both inside, with this Microsoft-backed tab landing next February.
