Wanted: Bungie Beta Testers

Posted: 21 Nov 2010 07:19 AM PST

Calling all gamers, calling all gamers.

Fancy being a tester on a new Bungie game?

Bungie is calling for Alpha and Beta testers to participate in tests for new games.

Their last game - Halo: Reach - garnered a whopping $200 million in its first 24 hours of being released.

If tinkering with unreleased games stirs up some excitement, you need to sign up on the web site, Bungie.net, and enable them to send you updates on becoming a 'Bungie Beta Tester'.

They do say that not all who sign up will be selected but hundreds of thousands of gamers will eventually be needed. Lucky participants will get to complete surveys on game playing habits, carry out playtests and usability testing at Bungie and carry out Alpha and Beta testing for their next game.

Sign up by logging in to your Bungie.net profile and selecting the box saying "updates on how to become a Bungie Beta Tester" which is in your Edit Profile page. Make sure you have a valid email address or those updates won't get to you.

Let us know if you're signing up to be a Bungie Beta tester on T3's Twitter and Facebook pages and follow us for all things tech.

Augmented reality game Star Wars: Falcon Gunner out now

Posted: 21 Nov 2010 06:00 AM PST

We've got a good feeling about this...

T3 told you that the Star Wars: Falcon Gunner game for iPhones and iPod Touches would be out soon. And here it is.

Star Wars fans can finally get to sit in the ship that made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs in this latest game, Star Wars Arcade: Falcon Gunner, and fly through their own neighbourhoods if they wish.

Available on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and the 4th generation iPod Touch, this is the first Star Wars game game with augmented reality technology which allows you to make like Han Solo in the Millennium Falcon and blast enemy TIE fighters and other Empire ships.

Developed by Vertigore Games, the augmented reality mode in this first-person game swaps the traditional space background for whatever your device's camera can see at the time. Whether you're sitting in your living room or walking through a park, you'll be able to bring the space battle to you. Users use their touch-screen controls to move around a 360 degree environment and use the Millennium Falcon to fire away.

With more than 20 levels of arcade levels, the game includes moments from the movies such as the asteroid field chase through Hoth and the Death Star escape, not to mention the Kessel run.

If you earn enough credits during the game, you will be allowed to tinker with the most beautiful ship in the Galaxy and make modifications to it.

With retina display support and connectivity to Facebook and Game Centre, users can involve their friends as well.

This app is now available on the UK iTunes store for £2.99.

Would you prefer fighting in space or in your living room? Let us know on our Twitter and Facebook pages and stay tuned in to get more news on apps and gaming.

Three sets Human Hotspots on the loose in UK

Posted: 21 Nov 2010 02:55 AM PST

Catch them if you can!

Three conducted research which showed that 31% of Brits plan to buy amazing gadgets like a tablet, a Sony PlayStation PSP or an Amazon Kindle this Christmas with 60% already having a mobile gadget of their own.

In response to the survey which also showed that an increasing number of people are using their mobile tech to go online and therefore need a stable 3G connection, Three is throwing their Human Hotspots in the fray.

Their aim is to give British people free access to mobile Wi-fi via Human Hotspots. These hotspots will use Three's Mi-Fi network and anyone who can spot a Human Hotspot can go online by connecting to the Human Hotspot's Mi-Fi. Three's wi-fi dongle can support up to five users at one time.

The survey was conducted with 3000 people and showed that 48% go online via mobile gadgets in their bedroom, 29% at their workplace and interestingly enough, 14% go online while on the toilet.

Matthew Halfin, the marketing manager for Three’s mobile broadband propositions said, "People are now using mobile internet as part of their everyday lifestyle, and we think it’s important that we’re able to support our customers by providing them with reliable and fast connectivity for wherever they want to go online."

London's Human Hotspot was out and about on Friday, but they will also put in appearances in Cardiff (26 November), Bristol (27 November), Nottingham (4 December) and Newcastle (11 December).

Are we stepping closer to wireless humans being future mobile networks? Watch this space.

Tell us if you managed to go online using a Human Hotspot by heading over to T3's Twitter and Facebook feeds and stay tuned in for your regular dose of tech news.
