Gran Turismo 5 UK release date set for November 24th Posted: 12 Nov 2010 07:45 AM PST New Gran Turismo to launch in time for Christmas After revealing earlier today that a Gran Turismo 5 announcement was imminent, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has officially confirmed that Gran Turismo 5 will be available in the UK from November 24th.
Polyphony Digital CEO and mastermind of the much loved Gran Turismo franchise, Kazunori Yamauchi commented on the game that has been years in development and has suffered from numerous delays saying, "Gran Turismo 5 is an ambitious project, with challenges and complexities which have made it our version of the Apollo Space Programme!”
Yamauchi also commented on the importance of pleasing loyal GT fans saying that it was "at the heart of all of our efforts" and that the decision to delay the game was a decision that SCEE did not take lightly.
He ended by saying, "I can only apologise to everyone for making you wait so long, and I hope that when you try out the wealth of driving experiences available in Gran Turismo 5, you will not be disappointed.” Well, let's hope it's worth the wait Mr Yamauchi.
GT fans can look forward to burning around 71 courses (which includes the Top Gear test track), with an impressive 1,031 of the sleekest cars set to be available in the game.
Glad that the wait for Gran Turismo 5 is almost over? Will it prove more popular than Call of Duty Black Ops? Share your thoughts via Twitter and Facebook.

Free apps make up a third of best iPhone apps Posted: 12 Nov 2010 06:59 AM PST Five of the top 10 grossing iPhone apps are try before you buy It turns out that Janet Jackson was right; the best things in life are free. At least initially.
34 of the top grossing Apple iPhone apps are 'freemium' titles, that allow downloaders to purchase the full or extended versions from within the app, after they've sampled it.
The free model seems to be working well for developers, enticing users to part with cash after experiencing a taste of good quality content, rather than blindly slashing out on a full price app.
The top grossing free apps include Restaurant Store (#3), Tap Zoo (#4), NBA GameTime (#7), with a total of five apps appearing in the top ten and 20 in the top 50.
The freemium model has been a massive hit as 2010 has progressed, with only two such apps appearing in the top 50 back in January. It seems that try-before-you-buy apps could be the big app story of 2011.

Call of Duty: Black Ops breaks UK opening day records Posted: 12 Nov 2010 04:13 AM PST Black Ops kicks off the record-breaking in emphatic style Call of Duty: Black Ops racked up record day one sales in the UK, beating Modern Warfare 2 opening day sales in the process.
According to UKIE/GfK Chart-Track, Black Ops which launched at midnight on Tuesday earlier this week, sold 1.4m units in the UK which works out to £58m in revenue.
In comparison, Modern Warfare 2 in the same period sold 1.23m units generating £47.7m revenue in the process.
Yesterday, Activision announced that Treyarch's cinematic shooter had broken all opening day entertainment sales records taking an estimated $360 million (£223m), $50 million more than last year’s Call of Duty offering, Modern Warfare 2.
With Black Ops now likely to surpass the success of last year's CoD instalment, Activision also told MCV that launching the game on Xbox 360, PS3, DS, and Wii platforms would help to surpass the record-breaking success of Modern Warfare 2.

Twitter and Ping integration unveiled Posted: 12 Nov 2010 03:01 AM PST Tie-up comes after Facebook Connect support was pulled. Apple’s Ping social network had a pretty swift start, with a million punters signing up in less than two days. But the iTunes-based effort’s failure to integrate with other social networks has caused plenty of consternation.
Now though, you can link your Twitter account to your Ping one, meaning that whenever you post about a song, review an album or simply like a track, it’ll show up in your Twitter feed.
What’s more, the tunes you tweet about will come with playable previews from iTunes. If you click on a song that’s been tweeted via Ping, it’ll show up in the details pane where you can listen to it and even hit a link to take you to iTunes so you can buy it.
The whole shebang can be seen in action in the official video below. Will this finally make you sign up for Ping? Tell us what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages now.

Those of you that picked up the enormous Dell Streak will be fully aware that Dell knows how to put together a smartphone. A sequel to the Streak is apparently in the works, with the working name of Opus One. The handset will again feature a stonkingly large 5-inch display, but will ramp up the resolution to a more impressive 1280x800 pixels.

Posted: 12 Nov 2010 02:15 AM PST Makers Fusion Garage working on new hardware for 2011 though. Remember the Joojoo tablet? The bargain slate that rose out of the ashes of the much-hyped CrunchPad? Well, its makers, Fusion Garage, have confirmed that it’s reached its “end of life” having singly failed to match up to the all-conquering might of the iPad.
The web only tablet was always destined to be a niche alternative, but the man behind it, Chandrashekar Rathakrishnan, has confirmed that his company will be unleashing new hardware next year, meaning a version of this iPad rival will survive in some form.
Rathakrishnan had previously torn into the iPad for offering “non-web” experiences and not being solely focused on web apps. Joojoo only ran the latter. And speaking to E27, he was still keen to suggest that web-based tablets would eventually win out.
“I think it’s very obvious with the advance of the iPad that while web remains probably the number one thing that we do with our devices, the lack of end-to-end connectivity means that there’s a need to have a hybrid, to have both a web and non-web experience. And that’s where we fell short with our product.”
For now though, the Joojoo, mired in controversy from the start, is no more, thanks in no small part to minimal sales. Did you buy one? Or are you happy to stick with Apple’s winning iPad formula? Let us know on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Posted: 12 Nov 2010 01:01 AM PST Latest iOS upgrade pushed back until next Tuesday according to one Apple fansite. iOS 4.2 will not burst onto this week as predicted, and will instead make its way to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on 16 November. That’s according to Greek site iPhoneHellas, which has a track record in calling the right dates for Apple software bumps.
It had been expected that iOS 4.2 would land today, 12 November. The update has been making headlines thanks to rumours that its hyped AirPrint function would not work across Mac and PC, therefore shackling it to just a few dedicated printers.
Steve Jobs has rubbished the reports, but it seems we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see if AirPrint and iOS 4.2’s other features are all present and correct as expected.

Samsung Google Nexus S: specs and pics outed Posted: 12 Nov 2010 12:00 AM PST Get excited. The sequel to the Nexus One is imminent. Google might have killed off the much-loved Nexus One, and with it claimed that it wouldn’t be going down the same road of offering its own Android phone again. But it seems the Big G has had a change of heart, with the now-mythologised Samsung Google Nexus S finally making an appearance online.
The new phone, also known as the less snappy GT-i9020, has been papped by avid gadget fans, as well as being mentioned in inventory lists from tech retail colossus Best Buy.
Further leaks claim that T-Mobile will be selling the cell in the US. The Nexus S will apparently rock a 5 megapixel camera, along with the “pure Google experience”, which essentially means Android minus any skins or bloatware.
There’s set to be 7.2 Mbps HSPA support, along with GSM support, with bands that suggest it’ll be up for grabs on these shores as well as across the pond.
An official announcement is expected any day now, as Google prepares to unleash the latest version of its OS, Gingerbread. Ready to drop your hard-earned on this new phone? Or want the other Samsung Gingerbread phone, also leaked today? Tell us over on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Samsung Android Gingerbread phone touted Posted: 11 Nov 2010 11:34 PM PST Sammy's top-end new effort pegged for Febraury announcement. Android 2.3 Gingerbread’s imminent arrival has caused quite a stir among phone fanatics. And now we’re getting a glimpse of the some of the first hardware to pack in the all-new version of the ace OS.
Engadget has the scoop on the unnamed Samsung Android Gingerbread device, with the details come direct from an internal slide. While the screen is set to come in at either 4.3 or 4.5-inches, using so-called “sAMOLED 2” tech, there’s also set to be some stunning next-gen features, including Full 1080p HD video, an 8 megapixel snapper and lightning fast 14.4Mbps HSPA.
What’s more, there’s mention of full e-reader software, alongside n standard Wi-Fi, a super-speedy 1.2GHz processor and an ample 16GB of on-board storage.
So, when will this new Samsung number be getting official? The slide says February 2011, tying it in nicely with the annual mobile shindig that is MWC, while its description as “1st half flagship” suggests it’ll be on sale before June next year.
With Samsung also expected to out the so-called “Nexus S” in the coming days, it seems Android really is now top priority for the Korean tech cobbler.
