News@8pm: Gran Turismo 5 release and iPhone gets Flash Posted: 03 Nov 2010 01:00 PM PDT Welcome to your nightly round-up of the day's news and goings on courtesy of T3.com. Samsung's Galaxy Tab has made an impression as it busts into the market and starts to produce some interesting apps. An app has been released for the new Samsung Galaxy Tab that promotes the 2012 London Olympics. Apple will need to get some ideas running if the iPad is going to contend with this. Or have we spoken too soon as the iPhone will be getting new Flash compatibility via Skyfire app. Impressive moves from both parties.

Samsung Continuum leaks and with the latest images are some pretty impressive features. The upcoming Android handset, dubbed the Samsung Continuum, has be leaked ahead of its November 8th unveiling and shows it with dual AMOLED displays. November 8th is important for another phone as on this day the US public will be able to pre-order one of HP and Palm's new Palm Pre 2 handsets ahead of its November 11th release date. Doesn't give shoppers much time to get their hands on one.
Gran Turismo 5 will soon be hitting the UK stores, well we strongly think so since the game has gone to print in preparation of its yet unnamed release date. In other gaming news, have you bought Fable III, the fantasy RPG that reached the top of the UK game charts in its first weekend? Well if you have you might be experiencing some bugs that are ruining all your fun. If so, then you'll be happy to know that Lionhead Studios has set up a problem forum online, where they intend to fix the issues.
Xbox Kinect launches this week in the US and its not a long wait till it arrives in the UK, but is there anything else Microsoft can tell us about it that will surprise us? The answer is yes. The Xbox Kinect uses less than 10% of the Xbox 360's processor, which means this is going to be one machine that will be able to put the peddle to the metal with ease. If you think that's cool then you might like to know that Orange has entered the UK Mi-Fi market against Three Mobile and Vodafone with the Novatel 3352 Mi-Fi device. Watch this space! Call of Duty: Black Ops facing censor's cuts ahead of launch Posted: 03 Nov 2010 09:39 AM PDT Japan and Germany cull CoD's violent streak The upcoming addition to the CoD franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops is reportedly facing further censor implemented cuts after Square Enix apologised to Japanese gamers over the edited version of the game they are set to receive.
The title’s Japanese publisher is believed to have been forced to remove a number of scenes from the upcoming wartime shooter so as to pass the country's strict CERO ratings board. These latest cuts follow news that last month the German edition of the game faced the censor’s chopping board.
German gamers keen to get their hands and game pads locked on to Call of Duty: Black Ops when it hits stores next week will find themselves in possession of a game devoid of explosions that lead to limb loss, a slow motion scene of an enemy being shot, a prisoner torture scene, German ‘anti-constitutional symbols’ and somewhat surprisingly Mick Jagger’s song ‘Sympathy for the Devil’.
No reports as to edits of the UK-bound version of the game have yet been made.
Will you be queuing through the night for your copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds and stay tuned to T3.com for all the latest on the game’s release including reviews and launch event highlights. Apple to increase iTunes track previews to 90 seconds Posted: 03 Nov 2010 09:06 AM PDT US iTunes users to get triple the length free clips Apple is to extend the preview ‘clips’ of songs on iTunes from the current 30 seconds to a whopping minute and a half, the Cupertino company has revealed.
In a letter to record labels the iPod makers and leaders in digital music sales told those in the music biz it is to triple the time of clips available for free to iTunes users with the attitude of if you don’t like it, lump it more than slightly visible from the curt notice.

"We believe that giving potential customers more time to listen to your music will lead to more purchases," the document revealed to be Apple’s official line on the move to increased length previews.

Apple iOS 4.2 to launch next week with alarm bug fix? Posted: 03 Nov 2010 08:15 AM PDT iOS 4.2 to hit UK next week? Version 4.2 of Apple’s iOS operating system is reported to be arriving as early as next week as it is confirmed by the iPhone manufacturers that the update will fix the ‘alarmgate’ bug that has seen many Apple handset users facing missed appointments due to a Daylight Savings glitch.
"We're aware of an issue related to daylight-saving time and repeating alarms and will deliver a fix with the iOS 4.2 software update this month," proclaimed Apple in a statement to The Telegraph recently.
As well as bringing bug fixes to the iPhone’s alarm and emergency calls errors, iOS 4.2 will see multitasking and Game Centre introduced to the company’s iPad tablet device for the first time.
Recently released to registered iOS developers allowing for compatible apps to be submitted prior to launch, iOS 4.2 build 8C134 is confirmed to be rolled out globally on a yet undisclosed date later this month. With an Apple spokespeople stating "We suggest customers set non-repeating alarms for now, and reset after 7 November to resolve the issue” could we see the latest iOS by next week?

Gran Turismo 5 UK release nears as game goes to print Posted: 03 Nov 2010 04:08 AM PDT GT5 nears release as game disks roll off production line Although Gran Turismo 5 was due to hit shelves later this week before having its November 5th release date devastatingly removed, the long awaited and frequently delayed title has finally gone to print, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed.
Speaking at the Las Vegas car show SEMA yesterday Yamauchi proclaimed that following five years and $60 million in development, discs of the fifth addition to the Gran Turismo franchise are currently rolling off the production line.
Although an exact date for Gran Turismo 5’s arrival has yet to be announced, the news that Yamauchi and his team have finally downed tools and handed the game over to the disc producers leans strongly in the favour of a pre-Christmas arrival.
T3 last month gave readers the opportunity to try out GT5 for free in UK for the first time as event attendees got behind the wheel of the virtual racer in all its 3D glory.

Kinect uses less than 10 per cent of Xbox 360's processor Posted: 03 Nov 2010 03:44 AM PDT Specs get a boon ahead of next week's UK launch Xbox Kinect lands in the US tomorrow, and people have been queuing up since Monday across the pond to get their hands on it, along with a $150 bundle that’s promised to the first 3000 buyers. Those in line will be pleased at the added bonus that a Microsoft exec has just made bold claims about its prowess.
Alex Kipman of MS has come out as saying that the device will only use a ‘single-digit percentage’ of the 360’s processing power – as opposed to the 10-15 per cent that had originally been suggested.
That’s good news for graphically intensive games, as it means things should still be able to run smoothly no matter how much you wave about in front of the camera.

Apple iPhone to get Flash compatibility via Skyfire app Posted: 03 Nov 2010 03:39 AM PDT Apple's Flash hiatus to come to an end The illusive and longstanding bugbear of Apple’s portable products looks set to be rectified shortly as a new downloadable app of the Skyfire mobile browser will allow iPhone users to view Flash videos directly from their handsets.
The app, which was submitted back in August and has reportedly since been approved by Apple, is set to bring Flash to iOS running devices, correcting a problem many Apple fans feared would never be resolved based on Steve Jobs’ spat with Adobe over the popular video format.
"The “Video” icon [on Skyfire] enables users to play millions of Flash videos around the web that otherwise do not play on mobile. This unlocks content trapped behind those error messages with question marks and blue Legos by transcoding the Flash content into HTML5 on Skyfire’s servers" proclaimed a Skyfire press release.
App pricing and an exact date of launch has yet to be revealed. Stay tuned to T3.com and the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds for all the latest on the arrival of the Skyfire app. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
