Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay today launched the world's first mobile application to integrate scratch 'n' sniff features in cooperation with his range of Seriously Good sauces. On a completely different front, honest guv, we have colated the best tech April Fools Day pranks to do the rounds of the web in recent years.

Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play has officially launched today, well, sort of. Struck by delays to most of the major networks the PSP Phone has been hit by what Sony Ericsson has called freight issues. Another project stuck in its tracks today was the planned rollout of a 3G mobile network for the London Underground which has been abandoned due to finance and technical difficulties.

New BlackBerry Products have been making headlines in the past 24 hours with news that the BlackBerry PlayBook will support tethering from any mobile device joined by leaked pictures of the reportedly upcoming BlackBerry Touch handset, a device that will, as its name suggests, sport a touchscreen display.

Weird News: 3DS Porn and Angry Birds Championship

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 09:04 AM PDT

A look at the more eccentric side of tech world's last seven days

3DS Porn
The smutty, depraved minds of the internet have already tainted the cherished 3DS. Julie Watai, a self-confessed gadget nerd and Japanese pin-up posted a gallery of provocative 3D images for the 3DS so that the world could enjoy them for free. Is nothing sacred?

Angry Birds Championship
The game responsible for millions of half finished sentences and glazed over eyes was celebrated in Finland with a national competition to find the one gamer that would rule them all. 2600 people took part, with the top prize going to 19 year old Jonas Koivula who won a... uh... sorry I've just got to... uhh... these pigs...

MPs Tweet
The equivalent of texting under the table at school, MPs tweeting whilst in the House of Commons was frowned upon until recently. But in a move that screams "hey we can B down wid da kids 2" MPs are now allowed to bring their iGadgets into the chambers and tweet their way right through the debate. Why not? Its not like they're supposed to be busy running the country or anything...

Quadrocopters perform circus acts
In a bizarre demonstration of robotic skill, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich released a video of its scarily able Quadrocopters juggling ping pong balls. These autonomous drones have already demonstrated their physical agility but now they're actually learning to work as a team! We at T3 have already ordered a batch of bumperstickers just in case: "I, For One, Welcome Our New Quadrocopter Overlords".

$18,000 iPod Nano Watch
The time-honoured tradition of taking Apple products and smothering them in valuable materials is kept up by the Zshock Lunatik. Taking an iPod Nano and practically dipping it in diamonds, Zshock have made it gaudy enough to cause more damage to a child's eyes than a Nintendo 3DS. Suited to the 21st Century Rolex owner, the Lunatik should go great alongside your Gold History Edition iPad 2.

Surgical robot builds tiny paper plane
Building paper planes is a staple part of any childhood and of course arguments always follow about which design would be most successful. There were a bevy of possible modifications: wing-span and tail design, snub-nose or pointy, some even cut flaps into the wings, but never did we consider making one the size of a penny. Dr. Porter, on the other hand, decided to show off what the da Vinci surgical robot could do, and made a pointlessly small plane. Bet ours can go further than yours Dr. Porter.

Virtual Reality Fruit Ninja
We've always felt that Fruit Ninja was a great app, but if we had one complaint, it would be that we never feel like we're truly a ninja. Some German students obviously felt our pain and created a 3D immersive environment to really get into the game. With watermelons flying directly at your head and a virtual katana in hand, you get a taste of real Fruit Ninja life.

Sony unveils its first two micro radio DAB+ systems

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 08:33 AM PDT

Sony launches the XDR-S16DBP portable radio and XDR-C706DBP clock radio

Sony has officially unveiled two new DAB radios that mark the company’s first move into micro radios that support DAB+ channels.

While this may not be of massive use to UK users as we wait for DAB+ to hit our humble shores, the new Sony XDR-S16DBP portable radio and XDR-C706DBP clock radio will appease those eager waiting the enhanced digital broadcasting standard that is currently being rolled out across numerous European nations.

Talking on the party piece of the two devices Sony says: "Thanks to a more efficient coding scheme, DAB+ lets listeners enjoy an even wider range of radio stations, plus crystal clear, interference free digital sound.”

Both the XDR-S16DBP portable radio and XDR-C706DBP clock radio are available to buy now with each device capable of supporting up to 10 DAB and DAB+ channel presets plus another 10 FM audio offerings.

Are radios being replaced by PCs with iTunes accounts and iPod/smartphone docks? Share your thoughts via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Adobe shows off real Photoshop for iPad app

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 08:09 AM PDT

Would a fully fledged photoshop finally let us cast off the laptop?

Adobe has signalled its intentions to bring an enhanced version of its Photoshop app to the Apple iPad by showing off a concept demo at the Photoshop World 2011 expo.

iPad owners can already lay their hands on the basic Photoshop Express app for the tablet, but that's nothing compared to this demo, which features multi-layered images, filters and the ability to edit multiple images without lag or delay.

The "Real" Photoshop for iPad demo even showcased a neat 3D animation which allows users to view all of the different layers and how they comprise the image. You can view a video demonstration of the app over at Photograhpybay.com

The new app, which has yet to be pinned with a release date, would give iPad owners similar functionality of that seen in the full suite and would surely demand a quite hefty pricetag.

For some media pros, especially those on the T3 team, one of the only reasons why it's still necessary to cart a laptop around to events rather than just work from the iPad is the need to use Photoshop, so a "real" iteration of the celebrated studio would really go a long way towards casting-off that bulky old work machine for good..

London Underground mobile network plans scrapped

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 06:16 AM PDT

Funding and technical difficulties hit Underground mobile plans

Plans to implement a mobile phone network across London’s Underground transport system ahead of next year’s Olympic Games have been scrapped due to funding issues and the technical complexity of the project.

Announced earlier this year the plans to transform the current Underground dead zone into a fully 3G compatible network have today been ditched much to the disappointment of London Mayor Boris Johnson who had pioneered the move and described the planned service as the “way to go.”

With Chinese firm and MiFi maker Huawei having already agreed to donate £50m worth of equipment to the project as a gift from one Olympic hosting nation to another Transport for London and mobile networks O2, Vodafone, Three and the Everything Everywhere partnership of Orange and T-Mobile have agreed to abandon the system plans citing funding and technical issues as the cause.

Announcing the abandonment of the plans a Transport for London spokesperson said: "The mayor and TfL made it clear that, given the financial pressures on TfL's budgets, any solution would have to have been funded through mobile operators with no cost to fare or taxpayers.” They added: “The parties were not able to agree a viable proposal, and the project is therefore not being progressed at this time."

Are you disappointed or pleased that the London Underground will not be added a phone network in the near future? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Blackberry Touch pictures leak ahead of unveiling

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 04:57 AM PDT

Photos of a BlackBerry touchscreen phone codenamed Monaco/Monza appear online

New pictures surfaced today of an unannounced BlackBerry touchscreen device believed to be codenamed Monaco and Monza, for the US and GSM versions respectively.

Described as "a thinner, faster and sexier BlackBerry handset", the device will pick up where the Storm 2 left off although it is rumoured to be cutting all ties from its largely disappointing older sibling.

- More pictures of the leaked BlackBerry Touch: Click Here

Abandoning BlackBerry's unpopular SurePress technology and ditching the Storm name, the phone might be called the  "BlackBerry Touch" at launch and will be one of the first devices to run RIM's OS 6.1 operating system.

The OS is expected to be only a minor update to 6.0 with more focus on 'the cloud', requiring users to login with a BlackBerry ID in order to access cloud services such as remote-back ups, easier sharing of contact info and restoring devices.

With BlackBerry World coming up in May, RIM is expected to launch this new device along with three more touchscreen handsets - the BlackBerry Bold Touch, BlackBerry Curve Touch, and the BlackBerry Torch 2.

Are you looking forward to a bevy of new touchscreen Blackberrys? Let us know on the T3 Facebook and Twitter feeds.

T3's 2011 Hot 100 goes live with a few surprises...

Android has toppled Apple in the 2011 T3 Hot 100 with Google’s mobile OS supplying the basis for five of the year’s top 10 products.

Whilst only Apple’s second-generation tablet could break into the top 10 devices of 2011, Android smartphones and tablets fluttered in to the leading spots with a further 14 pieces of kit running the Google OS making the cut and taking the Android 2011 T3 Hot 100 tally to a hefty 19 entries.

Whilst Android controls almost one fifth of the 100 tech items we are most excited about in 2011, Apple by comparison offers just three further entries past the iPad 2, all of which fall within the top 50.

The luxurious and highly desirable Cupertino tech giant has more than just the rise of Android to worry about, however, as hardware rival Samsung looks set to overtake Apple with eight of its latest products makeing the Hot 100 cut, two of which touched down within the top 10.

BlackBerry PlayBook: 3G tethering with any phone?

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 03:29 AM PDT

...Although that's not official from RIM

Anyone excited about the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, but worried that they might not get the best experience if they’re not a BB phone owner need worry not: word has hit the internet that the tablet will be just as friendly to other mobiles as to RIM’s own devices.

CrackBerry is reporting that the PlayBook, which will be WiFi only at launch, will be able to tether wirelessly to any smartphone. This will allow it to share your handset’s 3G connection for web browsing on the move.

Obviously, this overly-friendly attitude isn’t something that’s been confirmed by manufacturer RIM, so only time will tell if it’s true. We’ll keep you posted. Are you keen on the PlayBook? Let us know your thoughts on the T3 Twitter feed, and check out our video hands on below:

First scratch 'n' sniff app released by Gordon Ramsay

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 03:17 AM PDT

Mobile applications enter scratch 'n' sniff era with Seriously Good app

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and Comic Relief, creators of the range of Seriously Good cooking sauces have unveiled the world’s first scratch ‘n’ sniff smartphone app.

Having joined forces with leading olfactory and technological experts, the iScratchiSniff app marks a breakthrough in mobile applications and opens the door to a bevy of future, user immersive cooking and gaming applications.

Featuring a number of the UK’s favourite dishes crafted using the range of Seriously Good sauces, from Spaghetti Bolognese to Herby Chicken via Lamb Korma, the revolutionary app allows users to odorously sample dishes before splashing out on the luxury sauces.

Having help in the breakthrough of the first scratch ‘n’ sniff app, Professor of Otorhinolaryngology at the Royal College, Dr Mal Odorous said: “Research shows that when pleasant food odours are inhaled before mealtimes, the body responds with a physiological desire for that very meal – it’s fascinating!”

He added: “This new app combines cutting edge technology with the findings of my research to deliver a simple solution to the age-old problem of ‘what’s for dinner tonight?’ Wonder no more shoppers, because now there’s an app for that!”

Samsung Galaxy Tab Wi-Fi out now for £299

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 03:13 AM PDT

Nab 3G-free version for £100 less than an iPad 2.

The Galaxy Tab is almost six months old. But Samsung is looking to breathe new life into the old model, finally unleashing a Wi-Fi only model for just £299. You can nab the slate for that price now over at Amazon.

Still running Android FroYo, the Galaxy Tab has been outpaced by a number of new Android Honeycomb tablets, not least Samsung’s own Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1, bith due later this year.

It’s unlikely that the Galaxy Tab will be updated to Honeycomb, as it lacks the hardware smarts Google requires for the new, tablet-centric version of its operating system.

That said, it’s still a sleek effort, and at £100 less than the entry level iPad 2, it has to be worth a pop if you like your gadgets cheap and cheerful.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play delays: 'supply chain issues' blamed

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 02:12 AM PDT

Vodafone, Three and O2 all delay devices, but others have it up for grabs now.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play will be released today at a string of mobile stores, including Orange and Carphone Warehouse, although the mobile maker has admitted that it’s been suffering from “supply chain issues”, meaning some networks won’t have the phones from the get go.

Yesterday, Three and Vodafone followed O2 in delaying the Xperia Play’s release. The latter is the only one to have claimed the problems with the phone are down to software bugs rather than problems getting the devices into the UK.

Sony Ericsson’s UK MD, Nathan Vautier, told the Telegraph that the mobile, known unofficially as the PlayStation phone, would be up for grabs “market wide” today.

The Xperia Play’s delays have grabbed plenty of headlines and the phone has received mixed reviews, with its design and build being called into question. Are you getting an Xperia Play? tell us over on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Sony Music Unlimited on its way to NGP, PSP and Xperia Play

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 01:20 AM PDT

Music streaming offering set to launch across number of platforms.

Sony has confirmed that its Music Unlimited streaming service, currently sitting pretty on the PS3, will be available on the PSP “in a matter of weeks,” with Xperia Play and NGP compatibility to follow later this year.

The news comes from Sony Network Entertainment’s Shawn Layden, who told Eurogamer, “The heart of the offering here is that with the one account you can access this music on your TV, your PS3, your laptop, your Blu-ray player, and have your music follow you wherever you go.”

The service currently costs £3.99 a month for a basic plan, which gives you access to slected music channels, while a beefed-up premium package, with access to six million streaming tracks, costs £9.99.

Sony already faces stiff competition from Spotify, which is already available for Android and therefore the Xperia Play. Amazon’s new Cloud Player service also promises to give it a run for its money.

Google moves to stop Android fragmentation

Posted: 31 Mar 2011 11:53 PM PDT

Tweaks and changes must be run past Google first according to report.

Google is looking to tighten up its Android operating system amid increasing concern that the OS is becoming too fragmented. That’s according to a Business Week report, which claims that Google is now demanding that any changes to the OS’s code be run past it first.

Word is that any tweaks to early release code have to be run past Android head honcho Andy Rubin, while the company is also using so-called “non-fragmentation clauses” to stop too many changes being made to the OS without its permission.

Google is also insisting that any partnerships formed around Android need to be given its seal of approval. Word is that some tech players are unhappy with the rules, saying it flies in the face of the open nature of the operating system.

Custom skins, such as Motoblur and HTC Sense, have meant Android updates have been difficult to roll out uniformly, while other manufacturers still insist on using older versions of the software with new phones. With these changes, Google is looking to make the whole implementation of Android much simpler from its end.

Can Google bring an end to fragmentation? Let us know what you think over on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

HTC Desire Android 2.3 Gingerbread update incoming

Posted: 31 Mar 2011 11:36 PM PDT

String of Desire-branded phones set to get software upgrade.

Three has confirmed that it’s planning to unleash Android 2.3 Gingerbread onto the HTC Desire, with its punters likely to get the latest Google mobile software by the end of April.

While Three said on Twitter that it didn’t have official timescales yet, it’s widely believed that the update will be good-to-go by the end of the month. Gingerbread was fist released alongside the Google Nexus S back in December 2010.

The updated OS is snappier, crams in NFC support, a tweaked UI and improved copy and paste functionality. With Three pushing this update out, it’s likely that other networks will not be that far behind.

Can’t wait to get Gingerbread on your Android phone? Tell us all about it over on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
