Teenager admits to crime on Facebook

Posted: 24 Apr 2011 05:00 AM PDT

Confessions of a Facebook user

A 16-year-old might face jail after he confessed on Facebook to flooding Portsmouth's public library.

According to news reports, he blocked all the water passages in a restroom using toilet rolls and switched on the taps, which caused flooding to take place.

The flood in the library caused £150,000 worth of damage.

The teenager denied committing the act, but retracted his statement when the prosecutor found that he had admitted to doing it on the social networking site.

He was asked on Facebook if he was guilty, and had admitted to doing so. He had written: "Kind of, yeah. I've kept it to myself. A few mates know."

The library was shut for five months.

White iPhone 4 landing this week?

Posted: 24 Apr 2011 03:30 AM PDT

Will we finally see the white iPhone 4, 10 months on?

Two independent websites have received tips that the white Apple iPhone 4 will soon be released into the wild.

Engadget received a tip-off with pictures about the white iPhone 4 in all its packaged glory at Vodafone UK. The information is that Vodafone UK will not be selling the white handsets until next week.

Apparently, the unit was rung up as a black iPhone 4 by the salesperson and soon after that the network operator stopped the sale of further white phone units "until next week".

9 to 5 Mac also was in the thick of the white iPhone 4 news when a source from phone retailer BelCompany told them that the white iPhone 4 16GB will be available in the Netherlands from Wednesday, April 27, with limited supply of the 32GB model.

The source passed on a memo which revealed that "supplies will be scarce".

It's been a long wait for punters who wanted the white iPhone 4 and we're hoping it's a delayed Easter gift for everyone.

Will you be buying the white iPhone 4 or plan to wait until the iPhone 5 is released? Let us know on our Twitter and Facebook feeds and get in touch if you were the lucky person to get your hands on the white iPhone 4.

PlayStation Network down due to hack, claims Sony

Posted: 24 Apr 2011 02:00 AM PDT

It's a case of whodunnit

We reported the PlayStation network down two days ago, but it's still unclear what or who caused the outage.

The PlayStation network's update on the situation says openly that an 'external intrusion' was the cause of the outage of services.

The post said, "An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th."

The update also added that they are doing all they can to resolve the situation and thanked PSN users for their patience. "We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share."

In addition, hacker group Anonymous denied having anything to do with the reported intrusion. In a blog posted titled "For Once We Didn't Do It", they refuted any accusations that came their way.

Their post said, "While it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves, AnonOps was not related to this incident and takes no responsibility for it."

In fact, the statement pointed the finger at Sony. The post said, "A more likely explanation is that Sony is taking advantage of Anonymous' previous ill-will towards the company to distract users from the fact the outage is actually an internal problem with the company's servers."

Whatever compromised PSN causing Sony to take it offline has caused many online gaming activities to come to a halt.

However, there is no information yet on how much time it will take to fix the problem that's causing the disruption of services.

Games developer Cohort Studio to close down

Posted: 23 Apr 2011 04:29 AM PDT

Another games developer bites the dust

Cohort Studios, the game developer company, is closing down.

The firm based in Dundee blamed the closing down on "difficulties of being a console developer in a declining console marketplace".

"It really is with great saddness that we have been left with no alternative but to start winding down," said Lol Scragg, CEO of Cohort.

"Making all 25 employees redundant is genuinely heartbreaking," he added.

Scragg also said that their employees are 'very talented' and that they are trying to find employment for them.

He said, "As we entered 2011, we have looked to change the direction of our business but unfortunately we ran out of time."

Cohort Studios opened in 2006 and launched the PlayStation 3 only game, The Shoot, in 2010. The firm also worked on Buzz, Lemmings, Burnout Paradise and Motorstorm.

Its last game will be PlayStation Minis title, Me Monstar: Hear Me Roar, which will launch in May.

App Store news: Apple and Google change rankings
Apple and Google have changed their app ranking algrithms to ensure the 'most used' iPhone and Android apps are at the top of their respective charts, rather than those that have been downloaded most. APP REVIEWS FROM THE T3 APP CHART:

iPad app review: Dead Space HD
The Apple iPad 2 promises us 9x better graphics thanks to the A5 processor and Dead Space HD for iPad is the best evidence of the new tablet's visual capabilities. The survival horror game, that has been a massive hit on the Xbox 360 and has been completely rebuilt for the iPad 2.

iPhone app review: Ashpalt 6
If boundless arcade racing rather than realism is what you look for in a driving sim then it's Alsphalt 6 for iPhone you should plump for instead of Need for Speed. Our reviewer says: "This is pure arcade thrill-seeking as you belt along at over 200mph, drift round corners, fly through the air at regular intervals, smash up trackside objects and force opponents into walls at every available opportunity."

Is BlackBerry still competing?

Posted: 23 Apr 2011 02:57 AM PDT

Skinless boy looking for girl with bandages

An Ultra edition of Indie game Super Meat Boy will be landing on shelves in UK and other countries soon.

Lace Mamba Global will be bringing the Ultra edition to UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, France, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, and the Benelux countries in Q3 2011.

“Super Meat Boy is an absolute crazy phenomenon on the internet," said Jason Codd, Managing Director of Lace Mamba Global.

"The game has sold far more than 400,000 copies already online, and there is a special boxed edition available in the US, so we expect there to be a huge demand for a similar retail edition in the territories we’re serving," he added.

There is no information as yet on the content and pricing of the boxed version of Super Meat Boy.

In Super Meat Boy, people play a boy without skin. His girlfriend, who is made of bandages, gets kidnapped by a fetus in a tuxedo wearing a top hat and a monocle.

The game features over 300 levels of traps that Meat Boy must avoid to rescue his bandaged girlfriend.

The game was initially released on Xbox Live Arcade, followed by a PC download version.
