iPhone app news: Charlie Sheen launches MaSheen app Posted: 25 Apr 2011 09:14 AM PDT
Now you can carry Sheen's outlandish rantings around on your iPhone. Out-of-work Hollywood outlaw Charlie Sheen has somewhat inevitably launched an iPhone app, filled to the brim with his own unique brand of winning.
The MaSheen (geddit?) app features a host of Mind Torpedos (Sheen quotes, you must be tired of by now) which refresh every time you tap your iPhones screen.
But that's not all you get for your £1.79, there's also 17 Fastballs of Truth - short videos of the tiger-blooded one pontificating on various topics. There's also a link to his online store and a Magik Tiger feature, which is, essentially, Sheen in Magic 8-ball form.
If you haven't gotten so sick of Sheen's antics that you've unfollowed him on Twitter and chuckle rather than want to slap the living daylights of of friends who hashtag #winning on their feeds, then this is the app for you.
If that's not enough Sheen for you, you could also cough-up £150 to see him get booed off stage again on his Torpedo stage tour? Duh, winning.

Wii 2 launch in 2012 confirmed by Nintendo Posted: 25 Apr 2011 01:24 AM PDT
Ninty set to fight the fall in profits with new home console Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii 2 will launch in 2012 with a prototype model set to be shown off at the E3 2011 gaming expo in June.
The official line arrives courtesy of a document taken from its official investors relation website which makes reference to the 'Wii's successor system."
The document states that Nintendo will "show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 expo."
Talk of a successor to the Wii has intensified in recent months with the best of the Wii 2 rumours suggesting that it currently goes under the codename Project Cafe, will be more powerful than current Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles and will incorporate a controller with its own playable interface.
Sales of the current Wii console appear to be slowing up as Nintendo reported a fall in annual profit, with a new console very likely to reinvigorate interest back in the company.
We only have a couple of months to find out if any of the Wii 2 specs talk is true, and with T3 out in LA for the E3 2011 gaming expo, you'll be the first to hear about the new Nintendo Wii console.
In the meantime, you can see the Wii successor confirmation letter here.

Motorola quad-core phones to launch in early 2012? Posted: 25 Apr 2011 12:30 AM PDT
A not too distant quad-core future tipped for Motorola The Motorola Bullet and Jet are rumoured to be the names of Moto's first quad-core processor smartphones which we can expect to see more of in Q1 2012.
The ambitious rumour-mongering comes courtesy of Droid-Life who has been tipped off about the new handsets, both which will apparently run on NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processors.
First up is the keyboard-less Motorola Bullet which will sport a 4.3-inch qHD screen, Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 16GB storage, at least 1GB RAM, a NFC chip and a 12-megapixel camera.
The Motorola Jet will alternatively sport a chiclet-style keyboard, and host a 4-inch qHD screen. Similarly there will be the Tegra 3 quad core processor, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB storage NFC chip and 12-megapixel camera
Droid-Life suggest that Bullet will arrive before the Jet and believes talk of the handsets corroborate with information from NVIDIA that Tegra 3 technology is expected to be in devices by the end of 2011.
Having unleashed the dual-core packing Motorola Atrix at CES this year, there is every chance Moto could do the same with a quad-core smartphone or smartphones. Without any other sources to back up talk of the Bullet and the Jet, it will remain as speculation for the time being, but interesting speculation nonetheless.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 ultraslim laptop confirmed Posted: 24 Apr 2011 11:30 PM PDT
Bigger battery life and slender form outlined for new ThinkPad The ThinkPad X1 looks to be the next laptop off the Lenovo production line after a PDF intended for internal eyes only revealed details about its key specs.
The ultraslim notebook is set to host new battery technology that will help the X1 last three times as long as a typical notebook battery.
RapidCharge technology will also apparently help the laptop charge 2.5 times faster than previous ThinkPad batteries, charging 80% in just 30 minutes.
Previous leaks suggest the X1 will feature a 13.3-inch Gorilla Glass screen with 1366 x 768 resolution, 2.5GHz Core i5-2520M CPU, 160GB SSD and will be just 21.5mm thick.
Revealed alongside the already shipping E420S and E220S laptops, the document also interestingly mentions something called a X-Slate but includes no further details to identify exactly what the X-Slate is. Lenovo tablet anyone? Link: Engadget

Dell 10-inch tablet specs and name leaked Posted: 24 Apr 2011 11:00 PM PDT
Dell Honeycomb tablet details revealed Dell’s 10-inch tablet revealed earlier this year, will be known as the Streak Pro after a leaked roadmap revealed details of what we can expect from the larger Dell slate device.
Given a demonstration by Dell’s Michael Tatelman at CES in January, details were scarce about the 10-inch tablet offering aimed at business users, but the roadmap suggests we can expect a 10-inch screen with 1280x800 WXGA resolution, a NVIDIA Tegra T25 processor and the all important tablet optimised Android Honeycomb OS.
Its business credentials appear to be supported by the inclusion of an “Enterprise application stack” while there is also mention of 2 mics for video chatting. It does however state the Streak Pro will be Data only, which leads us to believe that unlike the first Dell Streak, you won’t be able to make standard calls on it.
The Roadmap points to a June 11 release date for the Dell Streak Pro and also outlines two more devices, one of which is a 13-inch convertible tablet set to run on Windows 7. You can see information about the other two tablets in the image here.

Nokia Ovi Maps coming to Windows Phone 7 handsets Posted: 24 Apr 2011 10:30 PM PDT
Nokia and Microsoft smartphone strategy outlined Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has announced plans for Ovi Maps to be integrated into the Windows Phone 7 platform as part of the Finnish company's new partnership with Microsoft.
In a post on the official Nokia blog, Nokia Conversations, Elop announced that Nokia has “shifted from a mode of developing our strategy to one of putting our strategy into action.”
As well as bringing Nokia’s expertise in mapping and location-based services to Windows Phone 7, Elop also talked up delivering a new Nokia-branded application store.
The good news for published Nokia developers wanting to work with Microsoft’s smartphone platform is that the developer registration fee will be waived for the first year, no doubt in a bid to encourage devs to get on board.
And what about Symbian? Well, Elop said that Nokia has a “laser focus” on delivering great Symbian smartphones. That all sounds good, but we definitely like the sound of bringing some of Nokia’s strengths to the more promising, but still relatively new Windows Phone 7 platform.

Tech Today: 3DS to control Wii 2? Windows Phone 7.5 Posted: 24 Apr 2011 07:38 PM PDT
The biggest tech news from a bumper weekend of gadget gossip. The next Android Honeycomb contender will come from Lenovo, according to reports emerging from the US this weekend. According to a leaked company presentation the Lenovo X Slate will run Android 3.0 and boast a raft of hot specs including a 10.1-inch multi-touch ISP display, 64GB memory, a Tegra 2 processor and 8-hours of battery life. The tablet will be available from July according to reports.
The PlayStation network is being rebuilt by Sony after hackers brought the PlayStation 3's online gaming portal to its knees at the end of last week. The company says it is working around the clock to get the service back on line, but there's no definite timeline set for when gamers will be able to log-in to the PSN once again.

Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 update will not be called Mango, but a rather less exciting Windows Phone 7.5. The upgrade planned for later this year will bring multi-tasking and will give developers access to the camera and motion sensor, meaning an influx of augmented reality experiences. We kind of liked Mango to be fair.
The hype for the Nintendo Wii 2 is starting to reach fever pitch with E3 less than two months away, but once again it's speculation about the controller that's making the headlines. The latest is that the Nintendo 3DS could control the Wii 2 and that comes straight from the mouth of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto.
The White iPhone 4 has enjoyed a saga longer than an Eastenders whodunnit, but the release date 27th April, which is Wednesday, has been tipped in the United States. Stock inventories at electronics giant Best Buy suggest that each store will boast ten of the devices on Wednesday, ending the epic 10 month wait.
