HTC Flyer tablet demo'd in new hands-on video Posted: 03 Apr 2011 05:31 AM PDT Posted by Richard Wordsworth on Sun 3 Apr 2011 New video showcases the mysterious HTC Flyer tablet. It's fair to say Android tablets have had a bit of a shaky start toppling the iPad, but if you are in the market for a tablet and have staved off picking up an iPad 2, HTC has a video it wants to show you. Since its announcement at MWC, the HTC Flyer has been equal parts intriguing and mysterious. The model we saw at MWC in Barcelona wasn't a working example of the tablet, just a model of what the finished tablet would eventually look like, so while we were getting our fingerprints all over everything from the Motorola Xoom to the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the only thing we weren't getting properly stuck into was the Flyer. However, if the video released today by HTC is anything to go by, the makers of the T3 Phone of the Year 2010 (the HTC Desire, since you ask) might be onto a winner. We're being promised the full Sense UI experience, virtual surround sound delivered from two speakers, and, of course, that old-school stylus (sorry, "HTC Scribe Technology"). The video neglects to furnish us with a release date or an official price (although Amazon.co.uk is claiming May 27th and a princely £629.99), but with HTC's back catalogue of Apple-beating smartphones, we reckon this could be a real contender for the tablet crown. Next generation iPod Nano to receive camera? Posted: 03 Apr 2011 04:04 AM PDT Posted by Richard Wordsworth on Sun 3 Apr 2011 Apple reviving the camera for the next gen iPod Nano? It's an exciting day for fans of Apple and cameras - with the iPhone 5 rumoured to be getting an 8MP snapper courtesy of Sony, we're also hearing rumours that the next generation iPod Nano might be geting the seemingly obligatory camera addition. The leaked image on the right shows what the bods at 9to5Mac are claiming is a part from the seventh generation of iPod Nano, and clearly shows space for a camera in the upper right hand corner. It's not easy to get an idea of size, but from the image it also looks as though Apple will be keeping the current Nano's form factor. The iPod Nano line is no stranger to cameras, with Apple adding a VGA camera and microphone to the fifth generation of the device back in 2009 (and then taking it out again for the current generation). However, this was before Apple adopted the Nano's current square design (the screen on which is a mere 1.5-inch diagonally). Is there no limit to what Apple will stick a camera into? Apple iPhone 5 to pack 8MP camera? Posted: 03 Apr 2011 03:20 AM PDT Posted by Richard Wordsworth on Sun 3 Apr 2011 Apple's camera woes finally at an end? It's pretty much a given that the latest incarnation of the Apple iPhone, the iPhone 5, will make its debut at Apple's WWDC conference in June, but details about the device are thin on the ground (not that that's stopped us speculating). However, Apple fans might at least have reason to celebrate over the traditionally shoddy camera. In a recent interview, Sony CEO Howard Stringer hinted to the Wall Street Journal that Sony might be gearing up to deliver Apple a boatload of 8MP cameras. Now what could they be for? Traditionally the cameras in Apple products come from a firm called OmniVision, and the WSJ story adds credence to reports that the firm's plants in Japan may have been damaged in the tsunami, leaving Sony to pick up the slack. Camera quality has always been Apple's achilles heel, with competing handsets (and, more recently, tablets) routinely besting Jobs & Co. for quality, and Sony have managed to squeeze an 8MP snapper into their most recent slimline handset, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc. Could this be the boost Apple needs to snap with the big boys? Want more on the iPhone 5?
