Android app news: Gtalk video chat coming to Android

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 07:06 AM PDT

Gingerbread phones to get video chat via Gtalk.

Android will gets its very own FaceTime competitor with the official confirmation from Google that the next minor update to the OS will contain a major new piece of functionality.

Gtalk video chat, the prospect of which we reported on earlier this week was confirmed by Google's Mobile Blog as an official part of Android 2.3.4, which is coming to all Gingerbread phones, starting with Google's own Samsung Nexus S.

The useful IM app will now allow completely free voice and video calls over Wi-Fi or 3G to any other device using the software, that includes Android 2.3 phones and anyone using the Chat functionality within Google Mail.

Android already has an Android video chat option with Qik video. The free app allows video calls across platforms, meaning iPhone and Android users can stay in touch with each other via video.

It's also thought that Skype video calling will be coming to Android phones also, but we hope that Google rolls this out to all Android phones as only a select few handsets are currently running Gingerbread.

Another delay hits the third instalment of the series

F.E.A.R. 3 has been delayed again and will be releasing in Europe on June 24, 2011.

The news slipped out when UK retailer GameGears tweeted the news on their Twitter account, with Warner Bros confirming it soon afterward. There's no news on why the delay has occurred.

The game was supposed to release towards the end of 2010, was then delayed to March, then May, and now to June.

The American release also sees the release date pushed back, with the game coming out on June 21, 2011.

The game is single player experience with gamers able to play each level twice. F.E.A.R. 3 is based on Point Man and Paxton Fettel, who are the sons of Alma Wade from earlier storylines.

F.E.A.R. 3 will be available on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms.

Google Doodle celebrates the royal wedding

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 02:02 AM PDT

The royal wedding is here!

Google has doodled again with the royal wedding taking place today.

Instead of the familiar Google logo, the home page of Google.co.uk shows a royal wedding illustration, although it isn't an interactive one.

The doodle shows Westminster Abbey, a horse-drawn carriage, a castle and there's a glimpse of the London Eye in the background.

So if you're one of the few people who had no idea that Prince William and Kate Middleton were getting married today, Google has probably let you in on the news. If you click on the logo, Google will tell you that the royal wedding will take place at 11am United Kingdom time.

Google regularly changes its logo to commemorate special events in different regions of the world.

Google Earth is also joining in on the celebrations by showing users a 3D tour of the wedding procession.

Let T3 know if you're watching the royal wedding or not on our Twitter and Facebook pages and stay tuned in for more tech news.

Yahoo!'s Delicious bought by YouTube founders

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 02:00 AM PDT

Can Delicious go back to its glory days?

Yahoo! has sold Delicious, it's web bookmarking service to the founders of YouTube for an undisclosed amount.

Chad Hurley and Steve Chen have bought the service which will become part of their new company, AVOS.

If it hadn't been sold, Delicious would have been closed down by Yahoo!.

Yahoo! bought the service in 2005 and will control it until July 2011, when AVOS completely takes over it.

There is no concrete information yet on whether the service will be revamped by its new owners ot not, although comments made by the new owners do seem to indicate that may be the case.

"We're excited to work with this fantastic community and take Delicious to the next level," said Hurley. "We see a tremendous opportunity to simplify the way users save and share content they discover anywhere on the web."

With many people using social networking websites such as Twitter and Facebook to share content, will Hurley and Chen be able to make the service appealing to the web-sharers again?
